These are amazing Captain! :-*
Superb paintjob.
-
brilliant colours again, Captain!
@ Calimero
to me your minis are well done, but they somehow always seem to lack some depth. But the faces are excellent!
best wishes
Drachenklinge

Another colour bomb from the Captain, excellent Richard :-*

Despite being in the presence of a master orator and scholar, the halberdier simply couldn't stay awake. I like the way he's leaning on his weapon :) Evocative group of figures Captain, the globe looks great.
I actually like Calimero's flat approach to painting surfaces- it's so opposite from what I do I find it pretty interesting.
-
The right one in the Calimero team is exactely like John Gleese!
-
Thanks chaps, for the comments.
Nice clean work as ever, Calimero. Very characterful figures.
I should just say thanks to LAF member, Johan, who very kindly sent me a couple of the Mercator figures, which was this year's CRISIS giveaway. Lovely figure, and I hope I've done him justice.
He fits beautifully with the other figures here, which are from Stephan (LAF member, Regulator) Huber's excellent Pro Gloria line.
All superbly sculpted by the indefatigable Mr Hicks of course :)

The globe is a triumph, I'll take it as read that it is geographically correct for the knowledge of the age too

No it's not ;)
-
Captain, my favorite entry of yours so far, those Whites are astonishingly well painted.

You're welcome Richard. The Mercator is absolutely beautifully done.

Ain`t we a lovely and friendly club...
Psssst Johan, snatch that picture for our next Crisis site update lol
-
Great entries both.
The highlanders are deceptively simple, but there is excellent precision in those tartans.
As for the Captain's entry ... it's almost as if this is the ultimate subject for him. A brilliant lesson for us painters that fear colour!

yeah, i always loved the very distinctive style of calimero. a new LAFer could just consider it simple and flat, but it is a carateristic way of painting, and probably it takes the same time for the painting than the "Blood Way" (which i love!)
-
Thumbs up Cap'n!
-
The highlanders really are full of character and I love the facial expressions Calimero, well done
Richard I just do not understand how you always seem to get such vibrant results with colours. The faces are also superb - can I ask if they are just blended or is there some sort of wash used as well?
-
Both are beautiful!!! And the globe is really impressive…top-notch Captain. :o
-
Thank you gentlemen :)
Kerry, no, no washes - i've never washed in my life. Anything that involves sloshing gloop over my lovingly applied paintwork is an adventurous technique too far for me! The faces are just blended using Vallejo red leather mixed with dark flesh, and then lightened from there with increasing amounts of white. Plus a bit of red mixed into the mix for the lips. That's it!
-
i've never washed in my life.
Glad I sat by Matakishi on the plane, then. :)
-
Phnarrr! I'll set 'em up, Dylan. You knock 'em down lol
-
Very Vibrant Captain! Lovely work and such a great selection of minis.
-
Who the hell is this "Captain Blood" and why is almost everybody voting for him? ;)
I must admit that I’ve also voted for your entry Richard. Really nice and vibrant colors and waaaaay better photo too lol
It also reminded me that I have two of the renaissance guy with the little pig in their arms somewhere in the lead pile… I must start digging them out :D

That is absurdly generous of you, Dany. Merci beaucoup. That's the vote I appreciate the most :)
-
:o
Captain Blood is .... Captain Blood, what else ? 8)
-
Both very nice, but the Captains is simply striking! 8) 8)
