I've posted a photo montage account of today's game in GHQ between Jon and myself on my Blog.
It's based on an action fought on 20 December 1880 and involved a Boer ambush of a British Column on the march.
A taster ~

Here, here! :)

Cool. We don't often see games from this conflict.
No idea why they it's called the First Boer War, though, as I can think of at least two 'military disagreements' between the British and the Boers before this one. I like the alternative name of Transvaal War myself. :)

Thanks folks! No, it's not often gamed, but I've hankered to do it for a while. The Empress Brits & Boers are ok of course - I cheated by using NNC as Boers to boost numbers & a gun from Foundry FPW with Perry Mafeking civis as gunners- but I'd like some highlanders & sailors of course if anyone @ Empress reads this!

Failing that, the Perry Sudan naval brigade would probably fit in well with the Empress Zulu War figures.

I've some Perry Naval Brigade in my Sudan War collection: they seem to me to lack the essential 'Victorian Character' captured so well by Paul Hicks' work for Empress, so I'll wait...

Don't worry they are on the list to do. Can't say when though. Probably end of the year. ;)

I thought both sides were colonial upstarts, according to the Zulus...?
Gracias,

That qualifies as good news, followed by bad news! I'm almost tempted to ask, 'Which year?' ;)
Any news of the flags for 13th foot, you said they were done LAST month?

Looks really good!
I've always wanted to game something colonial but didn't want to paint up "thousands" of natives. This might be the war for me!
