Did they say what sort? I'm in the process of converting some figures into Batetela, Basoko and so on.

Would be just my luck if they were doing them. This always happens to me.  lol

Mate all they said in the original announcement was this:
Coming Soon.
Gun Crews for 1672.
Jungle Cannibals for North Star Africa!
18th Century North American Indians from Crusader Mins. (Yes, as well as the Musket and Tomahawk figures).
Austrian Infantry for 1866.
Mounted French Foreign Legion officers.

BUT in a facebook post answering a question about whether they had modelled specific tribes they also said:
North Star Military Figures We've used images of the Congo tribes Stanley came across as our initial inspiration, and we intend to go a bit over the top with some of the next packs.

Am I really sad for hopping up and down in excitement over this?  :o :D

p.s. I need to have a sit down and think of what tribes I want so i can get you to start converting them and then surely some manufacturer will do them for the rest of us!  ;D :D

The curse of Plynkes strikes again :D  I think it just goes to show that you are always just one step ahead of the rest of the gaming world ;)

Good news, Theo. Although truth be told, the FFL mounted officers and 1672 gun crews are of greater interest to me than the cannibals.

That’s so true lol

Maybe Plynkes should start a thread telling us what are his forthcoming projects so we can all know what figures manufactures are going to release next ;)

Okay, then. Sitting on my table right now conversion-wise are:

Mutinous Tetela askaris, Soko and other Aruwimi tribes, Wahehe, Watuta (some conversions done for variation), Wissmanntruppe, Sudanese Camel Corps, KAR, two Alan Quatermains, one young Prince Cetshwayo kaMpande*, and a partridge in a pair tree.

Look for these in all good shops soon, then.  ;)

*Barely qualifies as a conversion, that one. A Warlord Zulu with a feather glued to his headband.

I can't believe I spelled Allan Quatermain incorrectly.

That's justification for being thrown off Colonial Adventures, I reckon.

One can never have too many cannibals.

This works out rather nicely!
Myself and my brother were discussing a darkest Africa project this evening.

<snip> and a partridge in a pair tree.

<snip>

All kinds of equal opportunity sexual innuendoes there but I will limit myself to a simple correction "...pear tree.""

Gracias,

Glenn

AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

I'm going to marmalise Mr Eyre when i see him next. He's never forgiven me for using his Matabele as Soko Cannibals  lol

Its a ruse i tell you to force me to start a Matabele army and buy more cannibals. Now there's a thought ...   :D

Shocking awful spelling there, I agree. Two mistakes in one post, and I never even caught the second. I blame Thatcher getting rid of free school milk in the 70s. As a schoolboy I was so damn thirsty I couldn't concentrate on my spelling or times tables.

I have let down the LAF. There's only one way to make this right. The revolver in my desk drawer...

If its a .38 Smith & Wesson could you have it posted on to me.  I've always wanted one. There's a good chap  :D

I rather like the idea of a pair tree ... [ahem]

Latest comments on FB
"Niam, Niam! I like it. Any chance of a plastic set of generic Africa natives in the future?" (Looks like another poor spelling there  :D)
North Star Military Figures: "We are planning a range of plastic figures, maybe Natives could be added."

I was just talking about this the other day. It would be great to have a plastic set of generic African warriors that we could build into whatever tribe we fancied. Some naked, others with loin cloth, animal skins or hides, assorted shields, weapons and heads/headdresses.

I would agree, apart from the plastic part. Not at that keen on it. Unlike some LAF members I have no theological objection to the stuff, but after playing around with some Warlord Zulus I have decided it's not really for me.

This may sound mad and go against conventional wisdom, but I find it much more difficult to work with than metal. Cleaning up metal figures is a pain. Cleaning up plastic ones is an absolute bloody nightmare.

Yes,  but in plastic you can have thousan's of 'em, thousan's!  lol

Although I prefer metal, I find plastic easier/faster to convert but each material has its pros & cons. With a little skill and some putty you can go a long way.

Here's hoping for some Tetela or Mangbettu. I made some proxies for both groups but they're just not quite right.

If any of you lads go to Salute do please have a gander at the North Star table to see if they have any of these cannibals on display.

Regarding the new North Star releases, I know Steve Saleh's 1672 figures will be moulded over the course of next week, but that won't be of much help to you of course.

I look online on an almost daily basis for news regarding these. Its also worth noting that there will be Askaris released after the Cannibals too if my info is correct.

you tease!  :D

cram;
any idea what sort of askaris mate? British, German, Belgian, Italian or generic ones? Mind you anything would be welcome (more choice is always welcome) although Foundry already has made loads of askari types available to us (British and Belgian for eg.). And Copplestone has taken care of the German ones.

No idea mate. Nick from Northstar made mention a while back that after the native porters, he would be releasing Cannibals and Askari, then ruga-ruga. He did'nt give any further details. You could send him a message asking, maybe post on the Northstar Facebook page. From my experience he has always replied to a question he has an answer for. As for Askari you can never have too many :)

Come to think of it Fanis I think he mentioned doing Arabs also, but I cant be certain on that one!

As you astutely observed you can never have too many! Either of Askari, Ruga Ruga or indeed Arabs! lol

I took out the Chris Peers book last night and was checking out the various illustrations there for a clue as to what cannibals they might model. Lots of potential there!
