Title: Pimp my Standees part 2: All Things Zombie

Main thread:

Pimp my Standees! Hub thread for my cardboard miniatures (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=40650.0)

This is the second part of my ongoing series of articles concerning the way I make and use paper standees.

In this second part, I present a project I actually completed, and it also is by far the biggest project using standees so far. A few weeks ago as I was browing through Vampfian's excellent zombie blog (http://vampifansworldoftheundead.blogspot.de/) it occured to me that the photos of all his miniatures would be perfect for my gaming needs, depicting a broad range of different characters. In fact, it is probably one of the biggest collections of zombie-related miniatures on the internet. The photos were of a nice quality and all miniatures were even depicted from the backside, too. I I asked Vampifan for permission to use his photos for this personal project and took upon the laborous task of cutting the miniatures I wanted from their backgrounds and pasting them into the template. Apart from the glowing outline, these are pretty much the same as my earlier Strange Aeons standees.

For terrain, I also wanted a system that allowed me to select from a wide range of different setups both urban and outdoors. Having long been a fan of World Works Games' line of excellent cardboard models, I combined the flat storability of the TLX system with the optional building rules from Two Hour Wargames' All Things Zombie game. Instead of making detailed interiors of buildings which would take of much of the available table space (although I tried that out, too) (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=33844.msg404462#msg404462), I just used black foamcore sheets cut to different sizes with simple counters for windows and doors. Upon entering, a seperate sheet of foamcore divided into a grid to represent rooms and hallways is used for indoor encounters. Worked really well and allowed me to have more buildings in a scenario.

Things like vehicles and random rocks etc. are just bigger cardboard counters.

I like my alone moments with paints, but this looks pretty neat. Something rare :)
