Title: 1/56 Armored train news
Post by: CompanyB on January 25, 2008, 07:17:12 PM
Hi guys and gals..

Well, the train is in casting!  Hopefully I'll actually have a few test casts sent to me next week!  We hope to have an initial batch ready for a debut at Cold Wars here in the US. The first wave will be the Armored Train and tender, plus a flat car that can be converted to either a gondola, or armored field gun car.

http://homepage.mac.com/brentdietrich/companyB_greens.htm

It will also be released about the same time with the model T ambulance!

Also, as you can see on the link above, the B2 Halftrack is about complete!  all that is needed is the front tires.

I'll be working on the RCW Rail Assault coach next!  Which is basically an enclosed troop car with two pivoted maxims on each side.  all the while I'll also be starting the Brigade Games U-boat!

Anyway, folks who want the train can e-mail us to get on the initial list, so we can calculate how many to cast.

more pics to follow when samples arrive!

Oh, and our next release in 1/56 this Spring is a Rolls Royce Armored Car.  Three different variants (four including the tender) sculpted by Mr. Tony Ashcroft and some minor conversions by myself. If I'm lucky, I can squeeze the converted B2 warlord armored halftrack in there somewhere!

Hi Brent, some very good news here.

Brent, I've been reading a fair number of books on German East Africa recently  and I noticed that they did have the T Model Ford ambulances there. What we would love to see in the future is a driver in cork helmet and with goggles on his helmet. This would cover all theatres.

Cheers and Best Wishes.

cats out of da bag!  Trencher, you managed to find a picture of the halftrack I'm working on!  As far as I can tell, that's about the same design of several that were used by a Chinese Warlord.

It's in progress...and will use some of the metal bits from the B2 kit, but will pretty much be a whole new model.  I'll need to get someone to sculpt me a nice crew for it too.

Brent, that wasn't hard to find. I've got it from there:

http://derela.republika.pl/wz28.htm

That is the sort of halftrack that I need desperately for my Quar!

Now keep 'em coming!

Edit: As far as I know, they were used by the Vichy French in Syria in 1941. They were likely to meet one of your Rolls Royce Armoured Car variants there - eh?

Damn. I'm going to have to set up Brigade Games as the account where my paycheck gets deposited.

I can't tell you how awesome I think it is to have a Chinese Warlord army with one of those zany halftracks. Plus then it could plausibly be fought by Reds with an armored train. The mind fills with possibilities!

I NEED those Rolls Royces (sic). Together with my LCP Fords they'll make "mincemeat" of the Turks (wrong again, in my last "Price of Glory" game an AC was taken out by a Turkish rifle section who blew out two tires and killed the crew with one volley).
Any chance of seeing an open-top turret variant? No biggie. Also I know that in the Senussi campaign and supposedly in East Africa they would dismount the turret entirely and leave the Vickers in place. There's a picture of this (I believe) in "Steel Chariots in the Desert" by S.C. Rolls and also in the old Ballantine  book "Tanganyika Gyerilla".
You can count on me to buy at least two ACs and a tender or two, some Ford ambulances and trucks,  maybe more. Lordy, I'll be bankrupt.
Thanks for the good work
yours
Scott

Is there anywhere in the UK that will be stocking the armoured train do you know or will I need to order it through Brigade?

I very much doubt that it would ever get used in a game but I just need one to go with my Bolshiviek army.

Also do you know where you could get the tracks to go with it?  they must be available somewhere but I know I can't think of anywhere.

Wargames Command Post is our UK retail partner.  He carries the entire Company B lineup.  If something is not in stock, let him know and he'll grab it on his next reorder from us.

I'm sure if you ping him, he'll up his initial order of trains to cover you.  We'll have a link for track on our site.  It's cheap...about $6 US for three feet of flex track, so same piece can make curves or straights.

Any chance of a turreted car for the armored train? That would pretty much provide a complete selection.

Oh, and the production casts are being poured right now.

The train will make it's retail debut here at the NW game convention Enfilade in May.  i'll have them up in the web shop the day they come in.

On that day the Train/tender will be available, and the flat car, with sides for the infantry gondola, and artillery flat car.

The track scale is S gauge, but I did make the train wheel wells hollow, and the wheel connectors are not glued in.  So you can sub in any gauge you want and your own wheels if you want to.

We actually used both trains in a game on Sat for our local con, Enfilade.  I'll have a full Gallery up later this week...but here are a few teaser pics:

The white Russians have captured a precious statue depicting the strength of the Bolshevik Children!  It must be recaptured at all costs.  Out of coal for their train, The White general in his fancy car sends a rider out to his field commanders for help.

The playing field.  The red train is set on an intercept track!

Previously uncommited troops pick a side.  They turn on their former Red allies and the Red train!

Setting up...

Yep, buildings are Hovels...

One of our sculptors though is Battle Works Studios.  He also has a very nice line of Russian Buildings.  I'll try and get pics posted along side the game galleries.

Sorry for this late one: I have some of those russian houses, and they seem much more to 28 mm scale than the Hovels arab bulidings. Very nice size. I may need that church, too...  ;D

Just ordered mine!  :D Not a bad price, overall.  Added a couple of extra flats plus the various modules.  Wonder if we could eventually get a set of train crew to go with it? Anybody know anything about modelling the gun turret in the first gondola?

Crew would be nice, for the beginning I think some of the seamen from brigade or pulp have to do.

The one with the shovel is best, but top center would be a good chouice, too.

I got these (originally not ment for railers), for siberian winter they'll do ;)

I also ordered the Russian Command Set 2, thinking the circled figure might work as a crew type.  Possibly, you could also use the second officer with the cigarette.

I know Pete already put a link up, but here is the entire post below from my newsgroup and the news stories. I am also working on getting some scale track so that those who want can add a piece or more to their order. We will also be adding a bunch of customization items for the train (turrets, etc). Anyone who pre-orders will be able to add any of these new items to the order as long as it is done prior to us shipping.

---

The CompanyB Armored Train (1/56th) PREORDER is up in the webstore.

Main delivery is by the end of the month. I may get some trickling in before then. It is in
the caster's hands at the moment and he is shipping direct to me once castings are
complete.

http://www.brigadegames.com/go.mvc?ID=BGHMSIE (http://www.brigadegames.com/go.mvc?ID=BGHMSIE)

I have added a special on the Engine/Tender and 2 flatcars as well as one with come
Brigade Russian Civil War packs included.

Order early to avoid disappointment as we have estimated the quantity needed for the first
production run and do not have a lot of time to adjust our numbers should demand be
more than we anticipate.

Remember - with preorders the entire order will ship together.

Best regards

Lon Weiss

Just in case people haven't noticed...Brent from Company B has announced two more cars for the train - an MG car and a Turret Gun car.
Dang! I thought I had my train already complete!
Also, Lon has his trains inbound and expects to start shipping them next week! :D I don't see this order sneaking by customs, though! :(  I've been very lucky that way, lately, even getting an order worth about $250 and weighing at least five pounds shipped straight to my door.

Armoured trains were mostly log powered rather than coal, I'v read.  What do I use for logs?  Twigs?  If so which tree/bush provides likely types?  If not what?

Since my train will be built as a diorama piece, I will be laying my own track instead of buying readymade.  The question is, does anybody know what weight of rail the Russians used?  ???  I know about the 5' gauge but I can't seem to find any reference to the actual rail.  I'm thinking about buying S Gauge Code 83, which is equivalent to about 85 pounds, but I'm wondering whether I should get Code 100, which equals roughly 110 pound rail.  Code 83 will probably look better, visually, even if it turns out to be a bit lightweight, though.  (Also posted in Open Talk)
