Title: My Captain Scarlet project
Post by: matakishi on April 20, 2012, 03:43:56 AM
All the main figures are done and some vehicles have been sourced. I'll add some more Spectrum operatives later and miight get the Angels if I can think why they'd be on foot.

Looking good, Matakishi!

I will be holding you responsible if I have that theme tune stuck in my head all day, though!

Just give them an aircraft to disembark from.  (I just want to see you do the angels at all costs  :D)

Those are really nicely done as always!

My projects never seem to get very far. :-(

Were they really all ranked as "captain"? Were there no minions? I had the SPV when I was a kid but only have vague memories of the show.

Quite.

(from "The Angels" comic strip in Lady Penelope issue 92).

In the TV episode "Manhunt", for example, Symphony Angel lands to pursue Captain Black on foot through a forested area.

Green was only a Lieutenant.  He was also the only black guy on the programme (from Trinidad, supposedly).  Draw your own conclusions (mind you, at the time, Gerry and Sylvia Anderson thought they were being progressive by including a black regular character at all).

There were also un-named guards in quite a few episodes, who wore grey tunics and white kepis.

Melody Angel was also black.
Yes, there were Spectrum guards in some episodes  [their lowly status made clear by not having pretty colours], and personnel on various training/experimental sites. You can get away with anything generic.
The small number of Captains were tasked with going out and taking charge of situations.
And of course there were all those petrol station attendants etc whose job it was to look after the pointlessly hidden SPVs ready for when one of those Captains came calling. Big problem however if it was Black...

Melody Angel was also black.

It's hard to tell one way or another.

(from Chris Bentley The Complete Book of Captain Scarlet, carlton Books, 2001)

It's all a social construct, anyway.  A journalist once asked Papa Doc Duvalier what proportion of the population of Haiti was white.

"98%," he replied.  The journalist was taken aback.

"Well," said Duvalier, "the US census counts someone as black if he has one black grandparent.  We've just applied that principle the other way around."

Agreed, it's not that obvious with Melody, and she looks very different in some photos.
See link, scrolling down to "notes of interest"...

Lots of good stuff on that site.

Great looking stuff Paul. Those CD minis paint up so nicely.

The SPV works really well, but does anyone do an Angle Interceptor in the right scale?

I remember building the Airfix one when I was a kid, but that would have been in 1/72.

All the available interceptors are the wrong size.
