Do you know what? That is actually brilliant!
I especially like the pith helmet on the second from the left of the Afrika Korps.
I only do WWII in 20mm, but I'll happily use the Afrika Korps for pulp villains.

By the way, how did you get a picture back from Salute so quick?  :)

Is this the start of a whole new period for them.  It would be nice to see a range of metals as well.  They are surely giving Warlord a run for their money!  :o

It's probably because I always think of 28mm as the skirmish scale for WW2 but the Desert War seems like an odd choice for starting a plastic WW2 range.

The reason I mentioned Warlord is that there is a certain crossover in their ranges that I doubt the Perrys have welcomed.  The move into Africa might forestall a Warlord move there in the future.  Be nice to see a few vehicles from them, too.

I think producing figures in plastic that no-one else has done is the way to go.  They look good but...is it me, or do the British helmets fit poorly, riding too high on the head?

Now that you mention it...
These are just greens, so I doubt everything is going to fit perfectly.

It would be great if some of the Afrika Korps were in goggles and face wraps.
Think I could hassle them into doing some? lol

That's about one of the last periods I would have guessed them to do in plastic. They're tricky devils, those Perrys.

Wow,what a pleasant surprise. Agree about the helmets. Now a box of plastic fallschirmjager in tropical gear please Mr & Mr Perry :D

the pics were doing the rounds on the net around 11.30 am this morning and the news of a new period in plastic by the twins was causing great speculation and a deal of froth and thought i would pass them on for others to see :)

With the helmets on the 8TH Army chaps i imagine it will be sorted out by time it gets to the production stage. They make me think of an Airfix multipose nostalgia trip but in a different scale. Imagine the other nations involved in this theatre of conflict may come out in metal eventually, if the twins decide to sculpt them.

Will get some of these to skirmish with and paint up a few in memory of my Grandfather who fought in North Africa.

Bet no-one saw THAT coming.
It's certainly a gap in the plastic market, though North Africa doesn't seem the most obvious or easiest location for small skirmishes-no doubt someone will prove me spectacularly wrong when these are released.

A thought strikes me however--maybe the German set pitted against Artisan's SAS and LRDG?

I'd imagine that the helmet issue is about how they are being temporarily held on in the display case, as the notice says that they will be separate pieces.

Now, let's hope that the accompanying metal range includes Sylvia Sims in Ice Cold in Alex.

Ooooh, this sounds like fun!  Plastics, green stuff, Pulp Nazis, stalwart Brits.  I already have some Artizan FFL for the period, this will make great 1930's games.

They look very nice, but I'm beginning to feel like WW2 is overly catered for (although not the Africa campaigns to be fair.) Look forward to seeing more. I wonder if they will do any vehicles at some point!

I think including sun helmets was genius, not many companies produce Afrika Korps wearing them.

Raiders anyone?
I just bought a 1/48 BF-109, so a raid on a German airfield sounds in order!  ;)

Nice, but no release-date. And only some casts. Time will bring some save information...

Thanks for the very good news. I'm sure we will see all the bit and pieces that you would see on these guys coming out in the box set. I loved the Airfix sets at the time. The pith helmet is great. I can now have some of my DAK tank crews wearing them.

Cheers,

Helen

Nice, but no release-date.

Bearing in mind that we are still awaiting the ACW Confederates, the Austrians and the AWI infantry, I think we will be lucky if they appear in 2012. :'(

I think you'll be lucky if they make it by the end of 2013.

The backlog of plastics being released from various companies must be mounting.

From what Richard and Simon are saying on the Perry Mounted Men@Arms, it will be worth it.

Cheers,

Helen

If these are a bit larger than their standard pygmys of miniatures, they would be of some interest. I generally dont like Perry miniatures at all, but these looks okay.

Those Germans in sun helmets remind me of the old 1930s Tarzan movie where Nazis take over a town and Tarzan must free captives before they are shot.  Hmmmmm...

They are on the Perry WIP Plastics section with more pics :).

Extra heads are to be included in the 8TH Army set to create Indian troops and SAS/Long range desert group.

Each set will feature 14 different torso types and some heavy weapons are to be included in each set.

Both sets will also be suitable for part of the Italian Campaign too.

It was a propaganda movie, and made 1942 or 43 hmm.

Indian heads are an excellent move with these - definitely under-represented in 28mm.  I'm considering the Eritrea/Abyssinian campaigns...

A big thumbs-up from me for the pith helmets too - really useful!

Fingers crossed they will do some Italians too. Lots of good skirmish scenarios in Sicily spring to mind already.

Just wondering if these 8th Army sculpts could be used for troops in the Far East against the Japanese in the earlier stages of the conflict there?
