Nuts! I'd heard about that mecha but never seen it until now. Painting looks great already!
-
I love this thing, it reminds me of a Zoid!
-
That's full of win right there :o
And why yes it does look like a Zoid.
-
Oh dear, I have an oponent with Garn units, so chances are I'll be meeting these on the battlefield one day... o_o

That's a cool model! What size is it? Do you have any photos showing its scale?
-
I like that a lot :-* :-*
Painting and actual model (deffinately a Zoid :D ).

Will have to dig out my zoids now.Great looking piece.
-
Boys, that's huge! I really don't like the overall look, looks too much like a 90's toy, but the single parts are wonderfully done, though!
-
That. Is. GOD. I want one!

It's interesting that people mention toys and zoids because when we designed this I didn't know what a zoid was! I'm far too old to have got caught up in the transformers stuff. I think it's a case of convergent evolution. :) We started with some concepts of an armoured living T rex, then walked it back until it was completely mechanized rather than a living animal.
The backstory for this model is that the Garn have recently lost one of their worlds, Alioram, to the Mekanoid grid, the failure to defend the world being largely due to the Mekanoid Dictators that are teleported to the surface of the planet once the battle for planetary supremacy is well underway. Despite all their firepower the Garn are unable to defeat the Dictators, which are well nigh impossible to destroy by fire alone -- they just keep coming. The Garn trying to defend Alioram resort to ramming them with their superheavy transports and then self-destructing, which they discover is the only method to truly disable a Dictator. As a result they develop a very large assault unit capable of blowing off the Dictator's weapons on the approach, then tearing it to pieces in close combat. In the design they refer back to the Drargs that still inhabit their home world, a protected species they revere which is very similar to earth's Tyrannosaurs.
Federal science has still not been able to determine if the GAU is piloted, a cyborg, or a sentient robot.
Needless to say, you can play it however you fancy! But that's the design philosophy. The Garn are my signature alien species but some of their thunder has been stolen by the Felids, so the Garn are getting a MAJOR reboot this year. The GAU is one of the centrepieces of that reboot.

Nice David! I can see that getting some use in WWWII too jurrasic reich meets mecha-superscience!
Lovely 15mm piece though, some big beasties coming out of Khurasan currently, yum!

Holy crap! It's huge! And very lethal-looking. Also I like the only-slightly-weathered approach you took to painting it. Makes it look "real" but not badly-maintained (since it's supposedly such an important machine). Excellent work.
