Title: Horisont IV: November 23.-25. Denmark. Update: Skulldred Prizes!

A bit early as ever, but now we know the date so you might as well get arranging!

What is Horisont?

Well it's the half way between a 'LAM' (Lead Adventure Meet-up) and a regular convention.

And what does that mean?! Well it means that everyone's invited, but only the regulars will come.  lol

But even that has it's advantages  ;)

And, well, yes it's in Denmark. And some might say it's the wrong side of the country even. But that's just what makes it all so awesome, because then we're able to provide you with thing's you'd never see in the big cities.  o_o

And it goes without saying that we will drive any flying combatants to and fro the Billund air port, train station and so on.

So what's unique about Horisont and why should you come?

Firstly we have ALL the space imaginable. So whatever insane size of your game we can fit it all in. And it never get's crowded.
It sometimes looks a bit empty though, but that's not really a concern though is it?   :D

Space

Secondly we have the space ALL the time! So you can start gaming Friday evening and go on till you drop. As long as you clear our by Sunday.

People with too much time to game, enjoying darts

Thirdly as last year we've had a miniature produced that we're handing out for free to the first 100 participants.

'ere you go:

If you'd like to know more please go visit our web page: www.horisontesbjerg.dk

or bug me about it here on the LAF.

More information will come and I'll keep this thread updated whenever a new game is on the list, something changes or somebody farts.

cheers,

The Horisont IV Team

OOOOOOOOH sounds interesting  :D

How 'English' friendly is it? Especially since like most people from this lonely island, I'm embarrassed to admit that I cannot speak another language.

Cheers

Hi Andy,

As an Englishmen living In Denmark, I can say that you wont have a problem. The majority of Danes have an excellent command of English. In fact they are easier to understand than some Brits  lol

Regards,

Stephen

Language is not what should keep you away.  ;)

I can assure you.  lol

We'll give you a royal treatment if you do show up!

I'll agree with Stephen and Thorbjørn, language is not a problem, there's a few native english speakers amongst our ranks and then there's the Danes who well speak english like us brits, just more ;)
Duncan

EDIT: just tried to register and it says 2011, do you know when registration is open again Thorbjørn?

I'm proud to announce that we will be hosting a Skulldred event on the Friday night at Horisont this year.

All participants must enter a nicely painted 300 pts warband and the best warband/best painter will be found.

There are already several warbands in the making at a local Danish forum but everyone here (who are interested) should of course also have a chance.

The rules are soon available and are currently iin a playtest stage. Check out http://skulldred.blogspot.dk/ for more details.

I am proud to present a real Pirate game at Horisont this year! We will be joined by Frank Bauer and some amazing SAGA action:

Viking attack on the Hamma Burg

In the year 845, when Hamburg was a small and humble village named Hamma Burg, the Vikings sailed up the Elbe from Denmark and attacked the Saxon settlement. This historic event is the blueprint for this presentation.

On an area of 180cm x 180cm in various scenarios, the fearsome Dragon sailing ships and shield walls will collide and the Saxon fortress rampart stormed by wild Northmen.

Figures, terrain and boards are by various talented friends of Frank Bauer but the presentation at Horisont will be by Frank.

Go to the Tactica website to see what a real wargaming convention is: http://www.hamburger-tactica.de/

Bloody Frank, how many table does he have now? lol
It sure does look like you got yourself a really nice convention going on :) Now, if I only could find tickets to Copenhagen that doesn't put me back 100 euros before I've even started my trip down to Esbjerg. Than adding another 80 for the trip in Denmark lol
I might fly instead, at least then I know that I'm being pulled over...

Sounds great, the more the merrier!!

Another game has just been signed up. Torben, Rune and Jonas from the club DFF (Dansk Figurspilsforening) (http://www.krigsspil.dk) will be presenting a WWII Arnhem game.

Quote
Arnhem, The Nederlands, September 1944

The bridge over the river Rhine at Arnhem was the main objective of operation”Market Garden”. The bridge was seized on the 17th by elements of the 2nd battalion and brigade headquarters of the 1st British parachute brigade. Under the command of lieutenant colonel John Frost the airborne forces quickly formed a perimeter at the north end of the Arnhem Bridge. The paras established themselves in strong fighting positions in the houses surrounding the bridge and placed their weapons with a good field of fire. However the German response was shift and effective. Soon Frosts men were surrounded and strong blocking positions prevented any reinforcement from the 1st Airborne division from reaching the bridge. From the 18th till the morning of the 21st the SS battle groups of Grabner, Knaust, Brinkmann and Hummel (all named after their commanders) would attack the perimeter in force.

Rules:
Crossfire, a company-level set of rules where one stand (3 figures) represents a squad and the where the focus is on the infantry combat. Terrain is to be used to cover your movement and establish a good base of fire in order to cover your troops’ movement by fire and to interdict the enemy’s movement by fire. The rules are innovative. They are easy to learn and fast paced but can at times be abstractive.

The scale is 20mm. Miniatures from AB figures, Battlefield Blitz miniatures, Fantassin warmodelling and TQD castings/cp models. Tanks and AFVs are various plastic kits. Buildings from Sentry models.

Title: Re: Horisont IV: November 23.-25. Denmark. Update: In Clouds of Glory!
Post by: Dr. The Viking on August 22, 2012, 06:36:00 AM
We're proud to present yet another spectacular game at this year's Horisont:

In Clouds of Glory
The rules have been over 15 years underway and will be presented here for the first time in this new and totally revised (and very thoroughly tested) version.

The game uses 1/350 scale 3D printed miniatures aircraft and uses a unique way of representing the attitude,  altitude and energy of the aircraft in a both simple and realistic manner.
In this game speed and altitude is life, but  every maneuver needed to get on the tail of the enemy drains energy. At the same time the players will have to weight the need to make aerobatic maneuvers with the ability of the pilot and will have to ask themselves: 'Will I gain enough tactical advantage by making this maneuver held against the risk of stalling the plane?'

We will run two parallel historically inspired scenarios on saturday, with different starting times.

The games will be run by the designers Thomas Greve and Svend  'Gimle' Larsen

Great to hear! Payment conditions should be in the confirmation email you received (with the attached .pdf file). But yes, foreigners can pay at the venue - I know the bank-fees aren't small when it comes to international transactions...

What do you mean "which table"? It implies that you will not be bringing along all of your stuff, which surely cannot be true ;)
... I will leave it up to you, all your tables look smashing, so i cannot sit back here and be the judge. Perhaps someone else has an opinion.

And just to cast the attention on the shops attending the convention:

Hello,

I am back from the show.

I had a fantastic Friday and Saturday in Denmark. The hospitality at Horisont was outstanding. A big thank you to all you organizers and people who worked at the bar and kitchen and pampered us guests much more than we deserved.

Great tables too.
Modern War.
WW2 Arnheim, WW2 15 mm and 20 mm,
Air Combat Pacific,
Triumph & Tragedy Spanish Civil War,
WW1 Air combat with a very cool rule set ( in clouds of Glory ).
Sudan Colonial
Darkest Africa
Napoleonics
Saga Vikings with a hillarious group of Danes and probably one American ( I guessed from his accent ) who had big fun in plundering Hamburg over and over again.... Fun to watch  men around 50 playing a wargame they like  :)
Fantasy and Sci Fi Games.
There was a cool table in 15 mm Sci Fi. Well... lots to see and some Dealers with a good selection of games, colours, miniatures too.

I am sure you will see pictures of the event very soon. Horisont and Denmark  is worth a visit. I can`t get the grin from my face. What a great event. Go there next year !

Cheers
Björn

I went to visist on saturday only. A very fine small convention and insanely good looking tables all around. We got of three demo games of In Clouds of Glory and with happy players all around. We played the missions "Emil und Franz" and two times "The Baloons at Messines" from the scenario book:

I regret that i did not get to play any other games such as the Black Hawk Down scenario or all the other cool games going on. Next year!

The shirt was around earlier, but ... well I'll leave that one to Dr. the Viking to explain for himself  ;)

Yes very well received. It's sat on my painting desk ready and waiting.

An idea for next year, what about a category in the painting comp for just Harry Horizontal the pirate(or whatever his name is)?

The painiting competition is sure to include the category "Horizont Miniature" which will include all the previous miniatures (both our local fisherman and the pirate).

And thanks Curtis, for making the models for us - much appreciated!!
At some point you will have to come over in order to catch up on all the beer and Cocio we owe you :D
