Title: foundry halflings
Post by: Timbor on May 31, 2012, 12:20:50 PM
I just got an email advertising the upcoming foundry fantasy rules, and the picture had some of their halflings in it:

I remember seeing some pictures of the halflings from the last open day.  From this angle they look like they will be pretty good - probably more on the the scale of 4th ed WFB empire halflings rather than the older tiny Marauder ones.

Am I excited seeing those? :D

Such wonderful Pickford sculpts - and I can't hardly wait to get my hands on them.

So, anyone heard anything about thir new fantasy rule book: "God of Battles" (by "legendary" Jake Thornton)?

Oh nice, just when I'm close to releasing the halfling upgrades for my goblins that everyone's been asking about. >:(

Look lovely though.

They look massive.  :(

Will wait to see how they scale up with other manufacturers before ordering any.

I'm close to releasing the halfling upgrades for my goblins

Well share them with us then :P

And if it is any comfort to you ... you can probably beat these on price and shipping costs ;)

And here is Dozing Dragon's old picture:

Think, we now have seen all the halfling sculpts I know of.

Ah yes, thats the picture I was referring to!

I also am interested in how the fantasy rules work out.  Maybe if they offer them at 50% off this Christmas I will give it a try if it gets good reviews...

Nice to see some new rules coming out.  First Mantic is officially releasing their rules, now Foundry has some in the works.

Just phoned Foundry and they said that there will be several packs.Going from other releases we could be looking at six packs. No set date for release though  :'(.

As someone who has been drawn in by the lure of the little fellows, I'm pleased there are more options on the way. However, these look a bit too... comical... for me. I like my Copplestone fellows, which strike me (this is soooo subjective, I know) as more 'Scouring of the Shire' than Warhammer-esque country-bumpkin bucolic idyll.

I do love the 'Lobelia Sackville-Baggins' with the rolling pin, though  :-*

Edit - grammar corrected so my comment makes sense!

I just googled "foundry halflings" as I knew I had seen the concept art somewhere before and that's what came up  :)

Thanks, Andy. To my knowledge there are about 20 haflings, the bar and a "porky pack pony called Philip" ;) - all by John P - so yes, could be something like 5 maybe 6 packes coming.

So, no date yet! Hopefully it won't be that long - or maybe just in time for Christmas ;)

John Pickford sculpts?

Yes...John's work indeed...the pony looks a lot like the ones he did up for WK.

These look fun!  I have no use fo them but may still add them to my wish list just to paint.

Cheers,

Blue

They look great! It's a shame they aren't compatible with GW's LOTR hobbits...  :(

Nice, those turned out not too badly  :D

No extra funds for an order at present, but perhaps if they have another 20% off sale sometime...

Yes, they are Pickford's indeed. Have been on the shelves at Foundry's for ages, but are now finally up for purchase.

I think they spectacular, but my assessment of his abilities is probably not that objective :D

@DD Thanks, Mate - as I don't have the guts to post over there, myself ;)

They do look pretty nice, don't they...?

It shouldn't be too hard to convert that rolling pin into an umbrella, either!  ;)

Thats right....they are much worse than you can imagine!   lol

I learn more hilarious Brit slang from that site though....it never ceases to amaze!

I find myself liking the militiaman with the pipe, but that ruddy saucepan handle's coming off the moment I get him out of the pack!

Gawd, I hate this obsession with saucepan-helmets.  Why do halflings on campaign need to be walking kitchenware catalogues?  Why not nasty little buggers known for habitually brogging giants from below?
Title: Re: foundry halflings
Post by: Timbor on August 19, 2012, 01:25:14 AM
But its the kitchenwares that make the halflings so loveable!

Besides, the adventurers look more like they would fit the giant-slaying bill.  The militia are just that... farmers and cooks being pressed into service with whatever they can find  :D

Looking forward to seeing these in person!

My set arrived today and I did a small review on the blog, but here's the essence:

The four sets:

(this set comes with a Bar piece as well)

There is a small insignificant size variation within the range:

Nothing major IMO - but will probably make some of them more or less useful.

And for the "scale fascists" (like myself) :)

Compared to what I have laying here:

Thats an old Citadel LOtR Frodo, Hasslefree, Heresy, Foundry, Old Citadel C-Range Halfling, Darkling Games, White Knight Miniatures

Couldn't find my box of GW Imperial Halflings (quite wonder where those are) - but should give you a good impression.

Last, the only bad thing I can think of was the little handwritten message on my invoice that said: "at present we have no plans to release more Halflings. We hope you enjoy these four packs, though" - quite a bad decision, if you ask me :-(

I'm a bit miffed about the half inch thick bases... wonder how much they'd cut their production costs if they did a decent size instead.  ::)

They are stunning, really nice. It's also nice to see some 'old school' styled halflings with lots and lots of character.

Looks like they should scale nicely enough with the Battleforge and old Harlequin ones, too.  Vistas of possibility open.
