Hello everyone, I would like to share with you my band of squat smugglers for Inquisimunda: Ugly Pete's Discount Exotics
(http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd516/arjenpilon/squats01.jpg)
First off, here's the group shot, showing all nine members and the hired Free Trader (the human). All the models are GW except for the trader, which is from the old Metal Magic Spacelords range and now sold by EM4: http://em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Civilians.html
The squat models have a bit of a uniform on so I tried my best to distinguish the individuals with different colour schemes. I think this worked as the gang is very colourful and don't look too organised.
Ugly Pete is the leader of my gang, he got his name thanks to his impressive scars. He's equipped with a plasma gun and a hand cannon. All my squats wear flak armour.
(http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd516/arjenpilon/squats04.jpg)(http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd516/arjenpilon/squats05.jpg)(http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd516/arjenpilon/squats06.jpg)
Willow is my only heavy. He carries a multi-laser with a mono-sight (the model is actually a lascannon but it works well enough and it has a sight). His gun has made him deaf on his right ear and after a bad run-in with an Imperial Guard Kill Team he was left horribly scarred and with an intense hatred of the bastard that did this to him.
Davidoff is one tough squat with a cigar, a boltgun and the ability to shoot it at rapid speed.
Larry Ripper is a deadly warrior with his largun and keen eyesight, but a bit slow due to his leg wound. He is the only medic in the force though so an asset both on and off the battlefield.
Dead-eye Hank has mastered the shooting with a Tau Pulse rifle, a rather deadly weapon. The model is actually carrying a weird variety of lasgun but I painted it in exotic colours to distinguish it from the other weapons.
Mental Frank is a big Alice Cooper fan and carries a shuriken catapult. He loves to gun down Eldar who strangely enough don't appreciate the irony.
Norman Fisher is the latest addition to the gang and a bit of an oddball adventurer. He is tough as nails though and the only squat to be armed with two close combat weapons (a bolt pistol and a knife).
Bald Stu is one of the two juves in my gang and like true squats they grow slowly so they haven't reached ganger status yet. That said. Bald Stu (because he doesn't have a moustache) knows his way with the lasgun and is good in close combat as well.
Hairy Elvis is the other juve and a big fan of the King. He couldn't bear to part with his beard though, so he kept it. He carries an autogun and he doesn't go down easily.
Baltazar van Stubeldijken is my Free Trader hired gun who is a monster in close combat and likes to show off his wealth. He carries a gilded needle pistol and a stiletto as well as grenades. He's a master of fighting in space and earns me some extra income with his smuggling runs in between games.

Nice Pil, like your take on the Tau/District 9 exotic weapon colour scheme. All good mate. :-*
-
Thanks, the colour scheme is 100% nicked from District 9 indeed but it works better than just a plain bright colour with no markings 8)
-
That's a VERY COOL Band of Vertically Challenged, Space Faring Psychopaths. You did a FINE job with some GREAT old minis. VERY WELL DONE!
-
They look great Pil. I am inspired to go through some of my Squat pirates and see what I can comeup with...although they won't be painted near as well. :D
-
Great work, Pil!
:-*
You are mad, mate.
Alice Cooper!
o_o
An amazing bit of freehand!
:o
(Nice to see them in colour... ;))
-
Nice work, I love seeing new ideas applied to the old figures :)
-
Nicely done, but the Photos are a little bit to bright. Maybe you should switch off the flashlight the next time. So your good work is a little bit lost...
-
An ace gang. I have a soft spot for Squats.
-
Stupidly nice! lol
-
Fantastic. Love the Alice Cooper freehand :o. Amazing.
-
Thanks all! I'm glad you like them!

You are right, the have been overexposed. I noticed it when I uploaded the pictures to my computer but I didn't want to take the pictures all over again. It's not the flash though, but two 100W Halogen light bulbs which are a bit too bright for these pictures. I will have to pay a bit more attention next time to keep the lights a bit further away, so thanks for the help :)
-
Very nice. Great paintjobs on some great oldschool models.
To be honest I am not a big fan of all the different colours but it seems to work fine for this gang.
-
Absolutely great fun, what a bunch. Love that Alice Cooper face too.
-
Thanks both!

I can imagine, it does look a bit rag tag and I don't really have a unifying element in there. It works well enough for me though 8)

I don't think it matters one bit. The bases bring them together nicely and the rag tag feel gives them an old school vibe in my book (may be completely undeserved though.. haha!)

Wow, REALLY great! Sadly in a galaxy far far away I had most of those figs....
Is there a decent gaming community in your neck of the woods? Not much action here in Amsterdam.

I play weekly with Raz and FM. We also have a gaming store with gaming space and our own forum where we arrange games and such:
http://groningerwargamers.nl/
For Inquisimunda and our weekly get-togethers it's just the three of us though at the moment.
-
Cheers! Just sent in my reg!
I'm not sure at 5 hours retour and 30 euros I could make it weekly, but I think a monthly trip is very possible!
-
Beautiful paintjob on some really characterful old minis - fantastic group! I wouldn't worry about them looking too uniform either; your painting differentiates them more than enough. Ace!
-
:) looks very cool, i like the squats they shouldn't have done them such a disservice.
-
so, Inquisimunda - is it a homebrew hybrid? If so, any chance of a peak (unless it's in Dutch) at the rules or hints on whta you've chopped and changed?
Lovely group of squats btw. One of the few 28mm things I have kept are my old RT era models - something about them appeals so much more than modern stuff.

It's homebrewn but not by us. You can download the rules here:

From this blog:

And with this forum to back it up:
http://inquisimunda.proboards.com/
It's an add-on for the basic Necromunda rules. The basic rules of the game are changed very little, but Inquisimunda adds a LOT of new options for gangs, creatures and weapons which really give it the 40k/Rogue Trader feel. There are no scenarios in there so we use those from Necromunda. Since we're with three players we usually plan two opponents against each other and have the third person come up with a scenario, acting as an umpire during the game. For any irregularities and things that are unclear we just make up house rules. Especially the income rules in Inquisimunda are a bit unclear.

Hello all, since my last update my merry band of squat smugglers have contracted a few extra members, here's the full gang posing for a picture:
My first addition was the Green Manalishi, a Tarellian Dog soldier with a shotgun and manstopper shells.
Tarellian Frog soldier would be a better description as I used an old Slann model for him. Whenever he gets a skill I will keep on picking agility skills until he has Leap 8)
Brian "loudmouth" Taggart is the only juve ever to have joined my gang from my settlement. Ah well, of course squats mature slowly. He's armed with an autopistol and a knife, as well as a flak jacket.
(http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd516/arjenpilon/squats29.jpg)(http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd516/arjenpilon/squats30.jpg)(http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd516/arjenpilon/squats31.jpg)
Dob Heavyworlder is my latest recruit. An Ogryn heavy with a flak jacket (I have yet to find a Ripper Gun for him). Dob wrote "Hants Of!" on his old leather flak jacket as a warning for all stunties who wish to 'borrow' his armour. He wears OGREX track pants and OSA space boots.
Finally here's a 'family' picture with all the members present.

Oh man that warband is looking fantastic now dude. Like the idea of your Tarrelian "frog" Soldier. Good work indeed. :o
-
:-* :-* :-*
Lovely additions, Pil!
I have not seen any of those old 'Space Slann' for ages, it rekindled some fond old memories... :'( :'(
Great stuff!
-
Nice stuff - dwarfs really aren't my thing, but I'm enjoying all the branding, the personal graffiti, things like the Marlboro packet; it really gives an extra dimension of plausibility.

Thanks Diakon! I think the Slann fits the profile for a Tarellian quite well. It's not really in line with any of the art portrayed of the Tarellians but it fits the bill 8)

Thanks! I bought a bunch of seven space Slann so he won't remain alone in his kind 8)

Thanks! I like to add these details to personalise the models and to make them look more rag-tag and less army-like.
-
ne in his kind 8)
Ahhh Tarellian Frog warband?
-
Haha! This was totally awesome!
-
Very nice addition!
-
Very nice addition!
Yes wonderful addition. Now do multiplication! lol
They look gorgeous. Especially the ogre me thinks.
-
This is very cool indeed. I look forward to seeing more, thanks!
-
Great additions to your merry band!
-
A very cool bunch of shorties. Well done.
-
Wonderful!!!
Nuff said... :-*

Thanks all! I have no idea what the next instalments are going to be, but most likely more squats. I can have only one Xenos in the warband (the Tarellian) and otherwise it's choosing between humans, squats, ratlings and ogryns.
Ahhh Tarellian Frog warband?
Maybe later, but only seven models is a bit meagre and I don't think I'll find many more anytime soon.

Good point. Maybe try getting some of the old fantasy ones from evil bay to convert though. Tempted to start one myself. Thanks for the inspiration. :D
-
I already have a bunch of the fantasy ones but I wouldn't dare converting them, I'm sorry! ;) If you do start one though I'd love to see the results! :D
-
Might do but I'd have to get the miniatures first unfortunately. I have got some of those mid 90's Lizard men that came in the Warhammer boxed game unpainted. Might give them some sci-fi weaponry and see what it looks like.
-
These are so great! Man, I wish there were 15mm versions!
-
Great stuff! They remind me of a SciFi version of the Dwarves from Time Bandits.
-
Great stuff, love the 'frog' soldier
