Title: Rank badges Spnish Civil War
Post by: WillieB on February 05, 2008, 11:23:16 AM
Asked the same questions on TMP but sofar noone seems to be able to help out.

Let's see if I got this right

A private has no rank badges whatsoever.

All rank badges for the regular army- nationalist- are large chevrons or slanted bars on the jacket, and smaller chevrons on the shirt.
Also pointed horizontal bars on the chest and cap (on the front for the army and to  the right for the Legion)

For example a private first class has a single red chevron piped black.
A corporal has three red chevrons, piped black on his shirt but three slanted bars on his jacket sleeve.

In case you were wondering, yes I've got a few questions.

A sergeant has three gold bars- piped red, but a sergeant-major only has two? Are they wider?

Does a private first class have a single red vertical bar on his cap and a pointed horizontal one on his chest? Or nothing at all?

Are the pointed horizontal bars on the chest also on the shirt or only on the jacket?

Thanks very much for any help!

saw this on TMP, and had to get me books out

only two answers for you so far Willie

Sargento-two stripes, bottom stripe is twice as wide as the top stripe

Sargento-mayor three stripes, top stripe consists of two thin stripes joined together, bottom stripe is large single stripe; like the Sargento

Officers Galleta (biscuit) the patch on the jacket, Bueno has it repeated on the shirt as well.

cheers
