After finishing my post-apoc gladiators, I wanted to try something different (and a little less expensive.) So here is the result. These are all Hot Wheels with one or two Johnny Lightning cars:

I'm following this project in your blog; i'm totally hooked. ;D

Great cars. I love the weathering and rust. :-*
-
Awesome cars. Love the one with the artillery piece in the back. :o
-
Wonderful stuff. Your weathering techniques are really impressive. :-*
-
Beautiful work.
The AA gun Nomad is totaly nuts.
It'll probably rip the bottomplate out of that nomad with the first shot lol
-
love your work on the cars
-
Really nice work
-
Thanks for the compliments- Here are the first two of a few planned interchangeable "drop-in" loads for my pick-up truck (unpainted, yet):

Nice pick up truck. I am loving the scratch built 50cal and pickup rig. Great work.

Ditto... it's been interesting to see these appear. Love the retro models you chose, those are some wild hot rods!
Also what kind of maniac mounts an 88 in a station wagon? Don't mess with that guy :o
-
Really great stuff!
-
Wonderful! Richard
-
I'm looking to do something similar in a smaller scale with Micro Machines.
Your work is very inspirational! :o
-
Fabulous work! :-*

This was really cool! :) Where did you dind those cars? I suppose they're converted, but where did you get the originals from? Again, cool shit!

They're all (1/64-20mm-S scale) Hot Wheels cars (except the tow truck which is from M2), some from the regular line and some from the "Boulevard" line - but all Hot Wheels. Fitted with various weapons and armor using GW bits, Flames of War bits, 25mm WWII bits, plasticard, brass rod and green stuff.
Here are some more I finished this weekend:

Love the paintjob on those.
The blue one with the rotary cannon must be the car version of an A-10 Warthog.
I don't think anyone would want to play chicken against that :o

Cool stuff!

More amazing weathering! :-*
If I ever paint cars again, I'm using these photos as a reference!

I still have this game finding players is hard well for now found some groups hope to lure them in to having a game or two. Ive started looking into 1:43 scale cars with 28mm figs in toe should just work out just fine I hope.
Nice style of paint work. lots of ideas to think about...

Those are fantastic! I love the retro future, almost "cartoonish" look that you have going on with them.

I deliberately chose to use retro cars to fit the background I created: The (nuclear) apocalypse happened in 1959. So I'm using (trying to use) only models from 1959 and earlier. (I have a couple 60s models which I've taken out of the mix.)
But yes, I do prefer a that retro-future look, which helped guide my world creation. :)

I can tell that you put some serious thought into the aesthetic, and I really appreciate that element of this line. I'd love to see some terrain and even backstory of the world that you're imagining.

There's no terrain (yet?) for my Machinas line; its only intent was as a reskinned variant of Charioteer (by Two Hour Wargames.) But I have plenty of backstory (I use this background for Machinas as well as for my post-apoc gladiators.) It's a lot of backstory for such a simple game, but that was half the fun of doing these cars:
The beginnings of my world: http://carmensminiaturepainting.blogspot.com/2012/05/septimontium-history-oppenheimer-and.html
The Machinas races (scroll down to "Circus Acceleratus"): http://carmensminiaturepainting.blogspot.com/2012/06/machinas-saint-chevys-custom.html
Vehicle classes: http://carmensminiaturepainting.blogspot.com/2012/07/septimontium-machinas-vehicle-classes.html
A race report with a little more history in the introduction: http://carmensminiaturepainting.blogspot.com/2012/06/machinas-first-heat-aar.html
And another report/ short story covering just a highlight of a long race: http://carmensminiaturepainting.blogspot.com/2012/07/machinas-brother-pilots-buick.html

The ONLY thing you need to add is crew. Otherwise just fantastic!
Either old Citadel or Stan Johanssen items work :)
May I ask, what is your weathering technique? In fact, can you post WIP pics on your stuff? I plan to do the same with my next renegade and interceptor projects.
Cheers Mate!

I like the look of the old Citadel stuff, but it's hard to find. I think I will go with a pack of drivers and gunners from Stan Johansen, though.
The weathering is quite easy. I paint the base color. Then I do a little random stippling with an old, dried-out brush and some reddish brown paint. Follow that up with some dark orange stippled over the reddish brown. Then I do a light drybrushing of khaki or beige or tan over everything (to represent the dust of the Wasteland.)

This is the last of the Machinas cars I have planned. And yes, it is a heavily inspired retro version of the station wagon from "Vacation."
I'm not planning on adding any weaponry or otherwise converting it to a post-apoc vehicle. I figure the Griswolds will somehow manage to eventually take a vacation to the retro-post-apocalypse; I'm just giving them a conveyance.
Yes, there will be an Aunt Edna on the roof, and no, it won't have the optional fun rally pack.

luvly, very convincing wood effect.

The 'metallic pea' looks spot on!

Looks great! :-*
Now it just needs grandma on the roof seated in a recliner. lol

OK that's it, roll 'em up! lol

Thanks! The Mutie Beauty is my pride and joy.
-
what scale figs you rolling with in your autogeddon?
No figures. These were made for a death racing game I converted from some chariot racing rules which has no rules for dismounted crews.
For modelling purposes, I still wouldn't mind gunners for a couple of the cars. The couple heads you might see in hatches are just tank commander heads from 15mm Flames of War vehicles, though, I believe 20mm is the closer scale to these cars.
-
Wow that are some very nice and good looking cars :)
-
The limo is my favorite.... The cars are all great, but the limo... Cheers Mate!
Out of respect I'm holding off a little more before I give a crack at one myself.
What have you been working on lately?

I've been doing 42mm samurai lately, but I am returning to these cars SOON.

The fortress is awesome!
Tons of character. Very nice work.

Two of my latest cars (the Plymouth with the shark teeth is new, but the Caddy was an older car of mine redone (with the turret.) I gave the Plymouth a bigger engine, and I used green stuff to make the baggage (and the turret). Both of these cars are "escort" cars for my Driving Fortress.

Wonderful :-* Are these used as individuals or as teams? And can we have "an obigatory army shot", a pic of them all together?

In the campaign game, and in some races where you have more than one car, you can race as a team. (The game calls them teams; I use the term factions out of old habit.)
And here's the "army" shot for you- not including the seven cars on the workbench, the four I've sold, or the "Vacation 58" car which I simply forgot to put into the shot:

Super! I can smell the gasoline burning and hear the engines revving.
