Title: Looking for an old-school engineer
Post by: JollyBob on July 10, 2012, 04:01:25 PM
I need an engineer for a ships crew, which I have managed to piece together out of Rogue Trader era figs.

Ideally, I would have liked the original Squat engineer figure, (not Irn-bonce, the other one) but he's going for silly money on ebay (and the only one up at the moment is an obvious recast from theessexgirl. No thanks.)

Can anyone recommend a suitable alternative? Human is fine, doesn't have to be a Squat, but should have that Rogue Trader vibe.

All suggestions gratefully accepted.  :)

Cheers
Rob

Does it have to be GW?

If not then there are some rather nice mechanic types (male/female/robotic) in the Reaper Chronoscope line.

Also Heresy Miniatures have some ships crew that includes a female mechanic. There are none in tech-marine armour (like the squat) but for old school Rogue Trader, they are the dog's.

(I'm at work so I don't have links :( ).

Sorry that I can't help, but do we have a list of notorious recasters?
Would be interesting, at least for me ;)

I had to think of the Hasslefree Grymn Pilot:

Thanks for the replies chaps, some interesting ideas.

Inso, no, it doesn't have to be GW, but the Chronoscope stuff doesn't really work for me as its too... um... good, if you know what I mean.

Hi!

How about the EM4 Miniatures Future Wars stuff? The Unarmed Thug is rather good and has a spanner tucked into his back pocket!

All the best!

Khaldor engineer from PP. Best engineer ever made

The battle mechaniks do look nice, but you can only buy them by the unit box - not ideal if you only need one.

Well, strictly speaking you can buy them piecemeal but only through PP parts shop, I think. Example:

The rest through here:

I do think they are rather big and burly next to even GW stuff tho.

How about C-P Models' mechanics?

We may have a winner.  :)  Thanks, they look a lot like the sketches of ship crew from the original Battlefleet Gothic fluff.

Thanks again for all the suggestions, they are all great figures but some of them are rather too modern in feel for what I'm looking for. The actual one I originally had in mind is pictured here:

Second row, second from left, "Squat Engineer". Would also like one of the Astropaths from that list as well, but I may be able to scare one of those up.

Another vote for this guy:

Tinker around a bit, and he has just the right feel, I think.
