This years project is the Siege of Minas Tirith as featured in White Dwarf 53. I am in the process of getting all the miniatures needed and then painting them!

Army Lists can be found here http://quendilsworks.blogspot.co.uk/p/siege-of-minas-tirith.html (http://quendilsworks.blogspot.co.uk/p/siege-of-minas-tirith.html)
So far I have finished a unit of Trolls
(http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv182/Quendil_photos/LOTR/P1000963.jpg)
The end in sight for the Riders of Rohan. I need to paint 10 more to get to the 55 needed for the project. I still need to paint Eowyn, Eomer and a different Theoden. I have painted up Erkenbrand and a selection of riders which matching coloured shields as I want to give the impression of different divisions. Also have included what royal guard I have. Hopefully should be able to finish the Rohan force next weekend.

Now THAT takes me back to my mis-spent youth! Tried it many moons ago with the old Minifigs range. Didn't get far collecting them on my paper round money though lol

Fantastic project and so far superbly exexuted. I will follow this for sure

I bet you didn't. I didn't manage to get that many in the 80's either but have been collecting ever since. I managed to buy loads of the new GW stuff a few years ago so I have enough figures. My issues is trying to get them all painted up and not get sidetracked by other projects! I also have quite a few other makes of LOTR which I hope to use as well o_o
-
I've got that issue! I believe the article was written by a certain Mr. Dever, unless I'm very much mistaken. Keep us posted on your progress.

If you are ever in Scarborough.....
We don't play a lot of LoTR now, although we used to have quite a few players, but have just bought a new piece of terrain to use at club.
A Minas Tirith backdrop.
The section of Mount Mindolluin is roughly 6 feet wide, 5 feet high and stretches forward about 30 inches.
We have five levels of the city, each about 9 inches high, that stack around the mountain like a crazed wedding cake, and then the outer curtain wall which is just 5 inches high but 7 inches thick and 6 feet wide.
So it should cover a table area of about four feet by six feet.
Needs a bit of tidying up and a few minor repairs or alterations.
It was on ebay, item 330759425740
We'll start building siege towers and trebuchets in the autumn.

Haven't been there in years, long way from Cornwall. Love to see pics of you new terrain :o
-
What a wonderful project. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of it. Your unit of 6 trolls is quite a mean group. And your Rohan host looks like the real thing. So I'll be waiting - breathless - excited and ready for more...

There's one pic on ebay, but until we get a chance to put it together (and then start tidying it up) it may be a whilr before we get any pictures.
-
Amazing army and I am definitely looking forward to seeing more!
-
Thanks all, I was hoping to get some more done this week but with the wife of holiday and the warm weather we keep going out with the kids.
-
You should bring it to PAW 2013!!!

Where and when?
-
Where and when?
I think its in Plymouth around Feb time
-
tis indeed. Or Exeter Legionary, I'm not fussy ;) PAW is just a bit closer if you're in Kernow.
I'm loving the easterlings, especially that standard - simple yet striking.
-
My Easterlings are now finished, net up will be Khand

Thanks. It did take a while, I tried first with creating transfers but the banners are too dark for that, they look better in the picture than real life lol

It is good to see someone else give into the LOTR madness. :D
Here is my LOTR Battle of Pellenor Fields game from last year: http://lostpict.6sided.net/2011/09/30/battle-of-pelennor-fields-lotr-lunacy/ (http://lostpict.6sided.net/2011/09/30/battle-of-pelennor-fields-lotr-lunacy/)

I never painted so much in my life as that year. Keep it up!

Cool. I used to own that issue. Great table set up.

Plans are usually dangerous and expensive lol

Can't believe there aren't more replies to this thread. What utter lunacy you have embarked upon! Spectacular viewing.
Looking forward to seeing these forces develop, and stealing all your ideas too. I likewise have a stack of old LOTR stuff waiting in the wings (or more accurately, crammed together in tatty cardboard boxes), and all I need is a push over the edge. One day, my precious...

There are many excellent threads on here and it is taking me a long while to do this

Especially as the good Dr. mentioned they've cut the contents of the boxed infantry sets by half :o
eBay here we come!

Another LOTR 'nutter' - welcome! I too well remember that article and have been gearing my collection over many years to culminate in a big Minas Tirith siege... I'll be using a Lord of The Rings variation of 'Armies of Arcana' to refight mine, the majority are non GW figures, except for characters and monsters and will have armies of between 150-400 figs for each contingent including 10 converted Mumakil, scratchbuilt siege engines and ladders and my own version of Grond etc.
The prelude to the Siege of Minas Tirith is of course the fight for the Rammas Echor

I am speechless (in Elvish, Entish or the tongues of men)!! :o
-
I love all these LotR projects. Quendil, you have certainly quite an army there. Keep painting and posting, I love LotR.
Sukhe: that is one mean looking wall there. I never had the patience to build anything like that. Very well done.
-
Great project I must follow closely ...
:-*

As I detest the new GW version it gave me the motivation to paint the Mithril Miniatures version. There are more pics on my blog.

Only just clapped eyes on this and am impressed by your determination in undertaking such a crazy venture. I look forward to future installments and, if you take it 'round the local shows, seeing it in the flesh at some point!
-
Quendil, keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing your host grow. Some fabulous painting here. I have a dozen or so Mithril Rohirrim which I think blend surprisingly well with the GW versions, even given a slight difference in scale...
-
Great job on the white council! They are better than the GW versions indeed. The only thing I don't like is the fact that the wizard on the right (I suppose it's Gandalf?) is almost bald...
-
I must admit I don't like mithril models very much. Their faces are all the same there is no personality in them. But that's the sculptures fault not the painters ;)

I call them unfussy, I know what you mean but I like them that way as it makes a change from having to worry about painting faces. :D

Folliclely challenged, just like me lol

Who is the guy second from the left in the White Council scene?

Who is the guy second from the left in the White Council scene?
They are Saruman, Cirdan, Elrond, Galadriel and Gandalf from left to right.
-
Right! I've almost forgotten that Cirdan actually grew a beard.
-
Nice job on the Council and can't wait to see this all played out 8)
-
Nearly finished all the Mordor Orcs, just dullcoate and basing
(http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv182/Quendil_photos/LOTR/P1020031.jpg)
Also got hold of the Heritage OOP The Great Dragon Smog. Lots to do on it, orc in picture to show the size of it.
