Title: DitDC and Force Publique
Post by: H.M.Stanley on July 22, 2012, 07:43:40 AM
[continuing the thread elsewhere on Foundry FP/Belgiums ...]

Perfect. For some reason i thought the Foundry Belgium Askari were in sunhats rather than Fez ..

http://wargamesfoundry.com/historical_ranges/single_packs/darkest_africa/belgian/?sector_id=12

I think a couple of packs of Askari infantry, one each of the Askari characters packs and Officers/Gentlemen

And perhaps the Eccentric Explorers incl Speke & Burton and try to exchange Stanley (which i have, naturally) for the younger version

Oh and maybe a just one of Baluchi  :D

[rubs hands]

So, this would be themed very much on Commandant Dhanis' actions, with Gongo Lutete's Tetula [Jungle Cannibal] allies, against Sefu's Arabs ..

My 300pt DitDC list:

Force Publique
Muzungu/Elite Soldier, with Repeater
4 x bases Volunteer Askari: Soldiers with breech-loaders
4 x bases Conscript Askari: Raw Soldiers with breech-loaders
Tetula Allies(must be <50% of the total points)
2 x 8 bases of Warriors
2 x 3 bases of Skirmishers with spear or bow

[i'll work on the composition of the Tetula, but for now i'm just looking at the points]

If by sunhats you mean straw ones, they did once do a pack dressed in such a fashion. I rather like them. I take it they are currently unavailable.

Indeed - straw hats

They don't appear to be available. I'd have probably bought a pack each of straw hats and fez otherwise

I can't make my mind up though about which FP Officer pack to buy. i Rather like the one with the NCOs but t'other has the Commandant on his Ass  :)

I think there is 2 or 3 of the Foundry Belgian packs which are out of production, I managed to get some of them off ebay, they show up there every once in a while.

Humph! I'd settle for two packs of FP infantry and one of Officers ...

I called in to Foundry and came away with 2 x FP Askari, (16 not 12 figures incl a pair in straw-hats  :D) 1 x FP Officers/Gentlemen, 1 x Eccentric Explorers & 1 x Baluchi with Matchlocks. Sadly they didnt have the FP Askari command pack; i'll simply add a standard bearer to the mix

I can add the two NCOs to the askari and have 2 x 9 man units plus 4 Officers.

I have a couple of figures for exchange if anyone's interested. I'm after the "younger" Stanley in particular but would also consider Baker's Florence or anything from DA that is interesting. I have available for swopsies:

DA033 - Belgium Lieutenant Florentin Wallez or Lieutenant Dentressangle (but not both);
DA011 - "older" Stanley; possibly Carl Peters but i'd have to think about that as i have German Askari

Cheers, James

Nice work James.   :)I'm hard at work on the Azande so will happily take these on sometime (in a thicket of elephant grass, obviously!)

Can't wait. I'm in a "no lose" situation. If i win i win. If i lose well its only the bad guys getting their just desserts  :D

I'm reading up on the Azande in Chris Peers' The African Wars. A very interesting book

Yup, that's the book that inspired me, courtesy of Nick.  The Azanade look like fun to play.

Ah-ha...

A minor blip with the list; you can only have a maximum of 8 x bases in a Unit.

Force Publique
Muzungu/Elite Soldier, with Repeater
3 x bases Volunteer Askari: Soldiers with breech-loaders
3 x bases Volunteer Askari: Soldiers with breech-loaders
4 x bases Conscript Askari: Raw Soldiers with breech-loaders
Tetula Allies (must be <50% of the total points)
8 x bases of Warriors
2 x 4 bases of Skirmishers with spear or bow

As the FP is AG2 there is a good chance the Azande will be on home-soil

Have you seen the new DitDC Supplement/Lists? Those Elite Skirmishers of yours with Throwing-Knives look like a handful

Looking forward to it James

Not a problem old boy

Nick/Northstar didn't have any in at the time so i called on Frontline as i have little in the way of patience  :D

Both types of huts are highly recommended

Do the Frontline huts have roofs that lift off, or are they one-piece castings?
