Thankyou Phil,

This is indeed great news that another company is looking at this Sideshow. Also they mentioned a Palestine range too in the future.

I hope Olaf(Mainly 28s) can do a review including a comparison with current figures available.

God Bless

And I always thought the Gripping Beast guys were nice people....

Not enough that they make the nicest Dark Ages figures, they just had to do WWI as well. Thank you very much!

Want to bet they'll do East Africa too?
Total financial ruin.

While this can only be a good thing and you won't catch me complaining about a new Great War range, one drawback from a personal point of view is that these so far seem to be duplicates of stuff already available from other firms.

Right now I've got all the Turkish regulars I need, and Aussies aren't really what I'm into, so unless they're planning to bring out a few of the less represented troop types I can't see myself buying anything from this range in the foreseeable future.

I think he meant total financial ruin for himself, as he'll be buying them all, rather than for Gripping Beast!

Least that's how I read it.

Same here, think he is going to empty his wallet in buying these

Brigade Games has me covered as far as Turks go. I wonder if the two lines will mix well.

Like Plynkes I'm hoping they do some different stuff, maybe some camel trains or assualt specialists, something different. How about a figure that's a spot on Kemal? Does Brigade have one? I'm still waiting for the second command pack, maybe he's in there.

Oh, are we playing wish-lists, now?

Here's what I would like to see in an "Eastern Theatres" line:

(Note to manufacturers, I realise there is no chance of these getting made, and I'm not suggesting anyone actually pour money down the drain on account of these dreams, as it's probably only me that wants them. So don't think I'm having a go, it's just what I would like to have, in a perfect world :) )

Ottoman troops in arab headgear
1915 French in transitional uniforms (Dardanelles)
Tropical Brits in tin hats
Brits in standard early war uniform that somehow look "hot" (i.e. shirt sleeves, neckflaps on their caps, etc. for the Dardanelles)
Highlanders in tropical gear
Highlanders in slouch hats (Salonika)
French Chasseurs d'Afrique in Adrian helmets
Turkish sharpshooters/snipers (specifically female ones, I realise that they probably wouldn't look that different to ordinary riflemen, but there aren't any that are really in a sniper pose at the minute - kneeling and taking aim would be nice)
Germans in the high-style sun helmets (as opposed to the more Wolseley-like ones that Brigade do. Those are fine and I have some, but I'm greedy enough to want the other kind too.)

That'll do for now, as this is all a pipe-dream anyhow.

I'm with Poly - I might not want everything on his list, but definitely interested in Ottoman infantry in keffiyah (or however it is spelled).

Also want to see more cavalry - Ottoman cavalry, Chasseurs d'Afrique and Imperial Camel Corps (do those count as cavalry?  doesn't matter - I wants them!)

And Western front could use more cavalry.  I might be the only person looking for 1914 French cuirasseurs.  I could also use some 1918 British cavalry.

Ottomans in Arab headgear.  That's hot.  Almost makes one want to get taken prisoner.

It looks like we are on the same page regarding Ottomans and I fancy doing some arab types. The snipers are already on my brief.

As for the Allies we are sticking with ANZAC troops to start with but they are by no means fresh off the boat. For both the Turks and ANZACs we are going for a very lived in look. These chap are not in tropical undress type uniforms they are barely in unifirms at all! The ANZACs will be living up to their nickname of the naked army (although not completely) and the Ottomans are all based on photos from the period where they hardly look like they have a complete set of kit between them.

No plans for Frenchies just yet although I quite fancy doing them, that and some Brits although we haven't discussed Highlanders.

Stay lucky,

Now you're talking. I hereby retract my previous statement about not buying anything from this range. I really like the sound of the scruffy kitless Turks.

I'd like to see a dismounted Australian Light Horse firing line.  I'm pretty disappointed that Brigade Games decided to do theirs charging (on foot) rather than in firing poses.

Hi Soapy,

Thankyou for sharing your overview for this range to us folks. Its also nice to know that someone else in the world has an interest for this sideshow.

Is it possible to share some photos of the upcoming figures here on this forum as this would be very nice.

As a holder of many 100s of ANZACs and Turks I'll be looking forward to seeing your range in the future.

God Bless.

As soon as I have some to show you I'll post them up here. At the moment they are just bits and peices of people and don't really show off what the range will end up like. In a week or two I will have some finished figures to show you.

Thanks for the interest, it's been six years since I sculpted the Turks for Battle Honours and it'll be nice to go back to them with a bit more sculpting experience.

Stay lucky,

Thankyou Soapy, That would be super 8)

I do have  a number of your Turks from that range mainly artillery crew. My friend Drew has a number of your Turk infantry. You may have seen some of these on this forum.

As a collector/gamer/researcher I'll be looking forward to seeing both the ANZACs and Turks.

Guys, you're making it even worse with your wishlists.

I had already computed that a single extra mortgage would suffice,  now I'm not so sure anymore.

Well, all will be forgiven after the first batch of  Turkish Lancers

And you might be surprised to see how many of these 'sideshows' will get covered in due time by the WHW WW1 game. And I will not break any secret by telling you that some of these have never been covered by any wargame rule/supplement as far as I know or at least, not with the depth that is planed.

Well, it's a WW1 game, not simply a '1914-1918 on the Western Front' game after all!  8)

Any chance of doing some stuff for the Dunsterville Expedition in Iraq?

I have no idea what Iraqi Tribesmen look like at the time, but I am sure it is nothing like the currently available figures for Turks/Palestine Arabs.

The new Foundry book on Risings and Rebellions has good info on "Iraqi Tribesmen". The Iraqi Bedouin and Arabs could definitely be represented by Brigade and Battle Honours Arab figures, the Kurds on the other hand...One can only hope. (Frankly I would love to be able to game Persia but I can't see anyone putting out South Persia Rifles figures.)

AS for a wish list. I will definitely be buying some (prob'ly lots of) Turks from the new line I would love to see
Highlanders in Tropical Uniform,
Turks in Arab Headress,
Turkish Mountain Guns,
Brits in mixed winter uniform (Palestine, see that famous photo of the mayor of Jerusalem surrendering

Thanks

In the few pictures I have of Iraqi Arabs they aren't noticeably different to the irregulars of the Arab Revolt.

On the other hand, there is enough variation in the appearance of the Sharifian irregulars that some of them don't look anything like the Brigade figures either.

The BH Light Horse were sculpted by Paul Hicks who you will all know from BAM.

I did the Turks, Serbs, Arab revolt, Some of the French, Russians, Brits and Germans on the western front. Paul did everything else.

Those were the days...

I'm a big fan of the BH Highlanders.  The piper from that set is just about the only piper miniature I've ever seen that looks like he is actually playing a real set of bagpipes.  Most of the pipers offered by other manufacturers simply look like they are hugging a beach ball, but that lad looks the real deal.

Thanks for putting the extra effort into that model.
