They look quite good.

What's beginning to annoy me though is Warlord's seeming efforts to change the pricing and structure of the usual plastic historicals. Perry have been selling plastic infantry sets of at least 40 figures for years, and now at the same price Warlord are releasing 32 figure sets. As if a 4 metal figure command group can justify it. Why even do the command in metal? Surely that defeats the point!
My two cents...

I guess so. I just wanted to vent I guess. I worry there's a smack of GW at Warlord sometimes. I do like a lot of their stuff, though.

While I like the greens I tend to make 36 man units (each company being a base of 6) for my part-time Napoleonics project, so these boxes will be coming up short by 4 figures so I doubt I'll be buying them.

I don't mind metal commands in plastic boxes as I never really satisfied with the ones you can build from the plastic bits.

I think this is Warlord's best Napoleonic release thus far and offers some nice variety to the other plastic French available although it would be nice to see companies release plastics that others don't already produce.

I imagine that the metal command is possibly because they won't get the same sales as Perrys etc and it is harder for them to justify the costs of tooling a small command plastic sprue?

So victrix 60 models for £21 giving me 3 units in black powder line, line and light (24-24-12) but a pain to clean and build
Perry give me 42 models for £18 giving me line, half a line and half light (24-12-6) easy to build
Warlord give me 32 for £18, giving me line and...well not much else (24-8) and the annoyance of a metal command.

Add on top of that the STUPID army deals warlord create where they deem it useful to give you no command models so your units can never draw los in black powder

I'll stick to Perry for my line and victrix for grenadiers (fine models compared to the first releases), warlord need to sort it out.

I have 16 figure units.....which makes this box a command set short....

Does the world really need more French Napoleonics though, specially in plastic. I'd have thought the market would have been covered by now. Plastic Bavarians, or earlier figures such as Prussians, Saxons or Austrians would have been nice. There is loads of scope for these and no competition except in lead.

Nice figures tho.

Lead is best!

In practice I don't think plastic saves much money at all and the figures just don't look or feel as nice.

Just biased I guess?!

Cheers,

Paul

Paul, you must be biased...but I can understand as some people like metal over plastic. For me, plastics are great and much more versatile then the metals. And the price point makes things economically possible that weren't before. For example, in the Naps you can build up your regts using plastics...the Russian Naps by the Perry's are great for this, as are all their French offerings. As has been said, the Victrix Grenadier pack is also quite nice. I was hoping that the Perry's would get on with releasing a pre-1812 French Line box of plastics...but Warlord have got there first. Warlord also got their Russians and Prussians out first...but all that said, I much prefer the quality of the Perry Twins. In that respect, I am extremely bias. The Victrix figs are nice too and offer a lot of movement. As for Warlord, they just price the plastics too high for what they are offering. The whole idea of the plastic revolution is to make things more affordable...Warlord's WW2 plastics aren't that great and cost way too much in comparison to their metals, which are very nice.

All that said, does anyone have pictures of Warlord's French Line sprues? I certainly hope there is more variety then the 3 poses they offered in one of their other Nap offerings....

Variety is the spice of life people...do demand variety!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
