Title: Nile Slaver Build
Post by: Belisarius on August 30, 2012, 08:06:48 PM
After reading the interesting inquiry from H. M. Stanley and the excellent answer from Plynkes I thought I,d have a stab at knocking one up using an Ansar figure from the Perry box . I fancied a kneeling figure as there is a distinct  lack of them.

Both legs were cut and repositioned, plastic wedges cut from sprue inserted into the joins to help the pose, the robes the figure is wearing being an advantage in disguising the joints. I had the choice of two poses and opted for the firing one.

I,ve armed him with a musket from the A.C.W. box but I reckon if the lock and hammer was shaved off you could label it as any type of musket rifled musket you care to name. I finished by adding a tassel cut from a zouave hat to his fez. I resisted the temptation to give him a cartridge box as I reason these guys carried them in the waist sash. I,ll throw a coat of primer over him tonight  and slap a splash of paint on tommorow.

Couple more figures waiting for a a primer spray. The second one I,ve already marked down as a scout, I see him reporting back maybe to a figure on horseback which would make a good diorama.

Yes a very useful set. I,m thinking about French zoaves using a mix of this set and the ACW Zoaves. I put these 4 together last week the possibilities are endless. I was aiming for a few ragged badly armed villagers, one is carrying a matchlock.
