Title: WF 1/56 plastic WW2 German Infantry conversions New Pics added 07/10
Post by: robh on September 11, 2012, 07:53:03 PM
I have finished the first 7 characters for my small "Normandy Firefight" project....My typically crap photos, sorry  :-[
My aim is to create each figure in the required 3 poses: standing, kneeling, prone. Each in a different uniform/equipment as necessary for the rules.
The standing and kneeling figures are stock or minor pose changes, the prone figures are extensive conversions using various leg/body/arm/head combinations from the WF sprues. Nothing here has been resculpted, these are all just plastic pieces.
Really nice figures that go together very easily. Obviously not without the typical plastic kit problems, but overall excellent value for money, I am happy with the way they are coming out.

I think another 4 or 5 will give me enough variety of basic troops and specialists to cover most scenario options.

If anyone else has been building these and doesn't use/want the bases please let me know...I am using 2 or 3 for each prone conversion and am going to run short.

Lovely work. I hadn't thought about using the Warlord plastics to get the poses for Normandy Firefight...

........using the Warlord plastics to get the poses for Normandy Firefight...
Mick

Mick,
These are the Wargames Factory models and the accurate anatomy makes cutting and repositioning limbs/part limbs easy. The pieces (even those cast as single part eg. body and legs) are all equally sized and interchangeable.

The Warlord ones in comparison are very blocky and hunched with typically pumpkin heads. I think cutting them up and making new poses that look plausible will be a lot harder and require some skill at re-sculpting.

Besides which........the WF figures are just far superior models!

Nice job on these. I have purchased all (yes all) miniatures that Tamiya makes in 1/48 scale for this purpose. The variet and posibilities are endless. I also got the plastic German troops from Warlords, and surprisingly enough, quite a lot are rather compatible.

I love the Tamiya figures, but when I worked out the number of boxes necessary to get 8 trios (24 figures) per side it worked out rather more expensive than I could afford to spend. I have managed to pick up a bunch of vehicles though including some Tamiya

I don't find the Warlord figures at all pleasing (but then I really dislike the BAM and Artizan style too). Nowhere near as well proportioned as the Wargames Factory ones and certainly not in the same league as Tamiya.

Whichever way you decide to do it the lack of varied prone poses for troops other than machine gun crews makes converting a requirement.
Or use markers  >:(

Yeah the conversion possibilities was the reason for me to look for Tamiya figures, and it didint cost that much money to get all boxes with miniatures available, including mechanics and whatnots. Now I have enough to make what ever I want really, and yeah they are very pleasing.

This last one is my only attempt at converting a standing figure into the kneeling pose. All 3 figures here started out as the same body, legs and gun arm.
For the Germans just a sniper and a "panzerjager" to go.

I have also added the first vehicles to the set, both as virtual scenery as they play no part in the rules. The Schwimmwagen is an objective in "search" type scenarios, the Tiger is teh objective in the "Tiger Hunt" scenario.

Fantastic looking Germans.  I especially like the distinctive basing.
