Title: Late 15C Northern Italian Buildings for the Battle of Fornovo Demo Game
Post by: Atheling on September 12, 2012, 03:34:52 PM
Hi,

As part of my research for a demo game of the Battle of Fornovo I'm looking for images of Late 15C Italian buildings. I was hoping that someone out there in LAF Land(TM) would be able to help me out with pics of the following:

1/ Ordinary Countryside Dwelling- Small, Medium and Large

2/ Church.

3/ Fortified Farms?

4/ Type of hedging or walling seen in Northern Italy at the time, if indeed this is applicable(?).

5/ Fortified Manor Buildings.

I would be extremely gratefull for any help anyone can offer.

Cheers,
Darrell

Painterman on the Steve Dean forum suggested that i try Italeri 1/72 building. As my game is going to be largely made up of Perry miniatures 28mm mini's I wonder if anyone has any pics of 28mm figures next to any of the building below?

If you have the pennies there's always Grand Manner's Spanish range  ;D

The website is still listing items priced as raw resin, but the pricing might lead you to think they are painted  lol

It's beautiful stuff mind  :-*

I'm a big fan of Dave's stuff, 'tis the best quality out there. Have the prices risen whilst i've been in hibernation or is it just me?

There was a recession and then another one on top of that a few years back, you must have missed it... some banks were in trouble too... stuff like that... prices went up, wages stayed the same, yadda, yadda... seemed a shame to wake you just for that.

I think I can help, I am from Italy myself, and have a 15th C italian army, so I made a great deal of research on buildings that I could use. This is what I got:

http://manorhouseworkshopmindstalkers.wordpress.com/manorhouse-workshop-catalogue/medieval-italian-town/: This is a explicit italian medieval range. The quality is really high (I have the castle myself) and it's really historically accurate. Only problem might be the scale. I am scared that it might look a little too big with the Perrys, but I feel that the towers and walls shouldn't show too much.

http://www.grandmanner.co.uk/28mm_Spanish_Napoleonic--category--13.html: Excellent range of buildings that can be used to represent Italian structures. They fit perfectly with the Perrys, only problem might be the price.

http://www.brigadegames.com/Terrain-Buildings_c_18.html: The Spanish buildings are perfect to represent Italian villages.

http://www.empressminiatures.com/userimages/procart14.htm: Again Spanish buildings that can be used as Italians...

http://www.tablescape.co.uk/Catalogue/Mediterranean/MediterraneanRange.htm: Really nice Italian buildings, especially the church, the walls, and the gatehouse

http://www.ziterdes.de/ziterdes/en/produkte/article_detail.php?we_objectID=4878433&catID=64&subcatID=93: They have a city tower really Italian in style...

http://www.gamesofwar.net/acatalog/Pirate_Supplies_Store.html: Some of the buildings at the end of the page look very Tuscan to me...

http://www.magistermilitum.com/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=790&strPageHistory=cat: They have an Italian medieval castle, but I can't guarantee on the quality...

Hope I helped!

Ah, that's great. Whilst I'm very familiar with Grand Manner, Empress and Magister Militum there are some real gems you have pointed out that i will be looking into.

Thanks very much!  8)

I'd love to see the pics too- on another thread though, as I don't want this one to get too sidetracked as it's already produced a wealth of information  :).

I'm not really a fan of Warbase's stuff either  :).

Sorry Bylbos, you must think I'm being obtuse. I'm not, just not a fan of Mirliton or Warbase's buildings. The buildings just aren't of the quality I'm looking for.

I do however appreciate the input  8).

Cheers for that 8).

It will be mainly Perry stuff with a few Venexia thrown into the mix.

Just had an epic fail with picture post 2nd attempt.
Only got Perry metal heads so far .
Figures are old Foundry,Old Glory, Hinchliffe and foundry swiss.
Walls and buildings are as purchased no additional painting.
Sorry about the photos as have lost the light and the main armies are packed away.

Atheling, I forgot to tell you, a good idea I was considering for my 15th C italian terrain was to put some Roman riuns. At the time (and still now) the entire italian territory was covered with remaining of roman structures.

I bought these in an aquarium store http://www.perbaffo.it/Dettaglio-Prodotto.aspx?Prodotto=744, my plan was to add some columns I bought in a souvenir shop, paint them, and cover them with grass and other plants.

It's something that people don't think about immediately, but it's very typical of Italian landscape and will look great on the table IMO

"anyone has any pics of 28mm figures next to any of the building below?"

http://www.fusiliers.net/wargaming30.htm

They mention needing to slightly modify the doors to get them to pass at 28mm but otherwise they seem enthusiastic.
