Title: My fantasy stuff (Mordheim building)
Post by: Ithaquatini on September 14, 2012, 01:51:57 PM
This is the first building I made for Mordheim since way back when the game came out.  It is a guard blockhouse or tower.  This was mostly a test to try out my foam carving since I never made a building this way before.  It is made out of pink foam, balsa wood, and a thick styrene sheet on the bottom for a bit of weight and strength.  A pretty fun project, but it took awhile, its going to take forever to fill up a 4'x4' board.  lol
Pictures were taken with my tablet, sorry for the poor quality.

LOOKIN' GOOD! That's very nicely fabricated & painted with a good dash of rubble & the nice touch of the "Wanted" posters. I like the base. It would be a fine piece for any Mordheim table. VERY WELL DONE!

That is excellent, I really like the stonework and the way you painted it. Especially the way you did the stripes of lighter color bricks in it.

Looking good! Lots of character to this, especially the stonework. Nice.

And don't worry about speed; the first one often takes the longest, because you're still experimenting with designs and techniques.

Thanks for the kind comments!
The process was made alot easier with help of this hot wire cutting beauty by Proxxon bought for $89...

It makes short work of thining down thick sheets of foam to the correct widths for walls, platforms and floors.  When you move the top wire anchor down the support rod, you can get 45 deg. cuts for wall mitering.
I heard most do stonework with an X-acto knife and then go over it with a dull pencil.  Instead of a pencil, I use a regular screwdriver tip from a power drill, it also makes it easy to round-off the sharp corners of the stones by using the flat side and you can use it to press the blocks into the foam to make recessed stones.
