Just a little thread to keep me on track! The plan: 2 full (40 troops plus Warlords) Warbands plus terrain, plus a pile of Heroes and chariots! Then to actually get some games in, I hope!
First up, half of Hector's Trojans, all Black Tree Design so far. I've gone w/ dun color hides for the Trojans, and will do the black and white for the Greeks, mostly to keep my son from adding "defectors" to his side while I'm distracted! ::)
Archers, as Levy:
Javelins, Levy again:
Warriors w/ horn:
-
Warriors w/ standard (not really painted til I decide what sort of iconography I put on Hector's shield):
Hearthguard, again w/ and unpainted shield to match the boss!:
Tiny pic! Details when that damn shield is done!
Opinions? I'm very happy w/ the BTD so far, but I have a pile of Foundry after these are done...
-
Looks great so far! The BTD figs sure paint up nicely for the cost, especially with those 50% off deals o_o
-
Personally, I think your painting has massively improved.
I'm not sure what you are doing differently but this latest batch of models look really nice! :-*
-
Nice work!!! And a period I'm seriously tempted to do :)
-
Seriously impressed with both the miniatures and the paint jobs! Well done sir. So what are you using for Hector?
-
Cripes these are looking really good!!!
-
Wow, I really like them!! Especially the flesh is cool!
-
Great looking project pleasee keep posting.
-
Very nice. These really look the great, your flesh tone is excellent. I'm really impressed with those figures, Black Tree can be a bit hit and miss for my taste but they look great. I have a few Redoubt figures from days gone by that I am sure will never get painted but keep thinking one of these days.
-

Hector is the butt-ugliest of the BTD minis that I got. I don't know why, but he kinda spoke to me and elected himself! ::) He will be the next PJ.
Thanks for all the kind comments. I'm very much enjoying this project.
-
Impressive! Those look very good for BTD figures. I agree with another poster, your flesh is great on these. :-*
-
Very nicely done! And they definitely look better than the Redoubts we used for our Trojan War-game… >:( (sorry, personal peeve)
Anyway, please keep us posted, yours are excellent. :)
-
Nice! I can actually see Saga working really well for this period. I don't really get the conversions of Saga for periods like Napoleonics, but this seems like a natural.
-
Very nice work!
Simon
-
Good work there :-* really like the shields :-* :-*
-
These are lovely!
:-*
It is a good thing that you are so good with the flesh tones, which are superb!
-
Good looking figures.
I think SAGA would work well with this period.
What battle boards are you planning to use?

This fellow has done the boards:
http://roughwotr.blogspot.com/2012/01/saga-trojan-war.html
More factions if you search thru his site. Many thanks!
-
I like the battle boards.
This might be just the thing to get me to paint
a ton of figures I have for this period.
-
Nice work! :-* :-*

A few "Heroic" additions, to spice things up a bit! :)
Hollywood Achilles, from Bronze Age Miniatures:

Good King Priam, new Foundry:

-
Cassandra, I-kore Celtos:
Hollywood Paris, new Foundry. I'm inordinately proud of the shield. All you talented types may laugh, but for once, something freehand looks like I intended it to! :D:

Excellent stuff!
-
Excellent stuff!
Indeed! Love the model that you picked for Cassandra
-
Very cool collection. Excellent paint jobs. :-*
-
Thanks! Now I need a naked dead guy to drag behind Achilles' chariot. Ideas? ::)
-
Lovely, troy is a guilty pleasure of a film for me, love the Bronze age figure :D
-
Thanks! Now I need a naked dead guy to drag behind Achilles' chariot. Ideas? ::)
No ideas, but I sure am glad you didn't just end the sentence with, "...I need a naked dead guy." lol
-
Troy is a guilty pleasure of a film for me
Me too! Have you seen the Director's Cut? Just got it on blu-ray., Helen gets the girls out, really adds to the enjoyment of the film! ;)
-
Wonderful work!
:-*
These guys are so full of character.
Great ability in the slapping on of paint department certainly helps too!
;)
Thanks! Now I need a naked dead guy to drag behind Achilles' chariot. Ideas? ::)
What about 'Bobby' the zombie from Tengu models?
http://www.tengumodels.co.uk/userimages/Zombies(2808029).htm
The ripped off bits of skin could well be appropriate having been dragged behond a chariot.
:D
-
Had to Google who played her but she gets my vote. lol

Update! Scrapped the SAGA idea, and will instead be playing the skirmish rules "Before the Gates of Troy", a nice little paperback set of old school rules for heroes, chariots, and small warbands. All this and Divine Intervention too! ::)
Chariot from BTD:
Thersites, my first Greek, the ugliest BTD mini I had. He was going to be Hector, but it just didn't seem fair, even to the rotten Trojans! He will be a special marker for routed troops, to shame them to return to battle:
My first Foundry Javelinman, and a BTD mini to compare. I'm pleased, and the scale diff isn't enough to make me fear mixing them:
Hope you like them!
-
Great job on the skintones! Did you pick up anything else in the recent BTD sale?
-
Nope. I've got over 100+ Foundry to paint, and there are a ton of Redoubt I'd like to get someday when I have $$ again... ::)
-
Nice updates LeadAsbestos! :-*
-
Like the latest additions very much and Thersites in particular. Think he took some unfair beating (quite literally), so it's great to see him included. :)
-
Looking good, keep 'em coming!
-
A long overdue update! With the impending arrival of the Temple of Apollo, I thought I'd best get my butt in gear and get a few more troops done!
Patroclus, companion of Achilles, from Bronze Age Miniatures, great dynamic sculpt, and a real bear to photograph!:
More troops, Foundry, BTD, Foundry:
Next up, converting a priestly staff for the Temple. Dug through the lead pile, and found some great candidates. Details to follow!
-
More lovliness from the Master of the Skintone!
:-*
-
Excellent stuff! I agree with the skin tone, lovely work.
Can't wait to see more!
-
Aargh!! There be tales.
lol
Love trojan wars. Makes me want to finish my mycenian pirates.
-
Good looking figures.
I think SAGA would work well with this period.
What battle boards are you planning to use?
Could be but if you want to introduce some surnatural elements or magic, it might be more difficult isn't it ? Or need a lot of work about this.
-
Quote from earlier in the thread:

Has everyting I need, plus I sold my SAGA rules!
-
Where could one purchase "Before the Gates of Troy?"
Sounds like an interesting set of rules.
-
Yes, where can one buy the rules - from Redoubt?
-
I bought mine off of eBay. ::) They are associated w Redoubt, but I can't seem to find them on the site. I'm still itching to order some Redoubt minis, so maybe Ill ask when I finally pony up and get them...
-
And for "Outstanding Achievements in Stupid"... Me! ;D Here is the link to ordering the rules:

Still at it!
The sons of Atreus, and the driving forces behind the war.
First, Agamemnon, King of Mycenae:
Menelaus, King of Sparta, cuckolded husband:
along with the Atreides, meet Ajax, King of Argos, a giant among men:
Finally, a small group of slingers, who I affectionately named the Swinging Pipe Brigade:
-
More great work from the master of fleshtones.
:-*
Great stuff on the non-fleshy-coloured bits too.
;)
That expression on Agamemnon is masterfully done.

Nice work Lead Asbestos!
:-*
-
Inspiring!
Have to buy that Kings pack from Foundry one day, too.

I have quite a few doubles. PM me if you'd like to do a trade!

Very nice work indeed :-*

A few standard troops, and an excuse to paint those sweet cow-hide shields!
-
Very nice.
Love the shields!
:-*
-
great work, Chris!

Still at it! Slow and steady, what with not having touched a brush this month:
First, a sacrifice to ensure good fortune, or read the future of this project
(http://displacedminiatures.com/images/3.img.13882387061-PC270009.JPG)
Palamedes, who runs afoul of Agamemnon
(http://displacedminiatures.com/images/0.img.13882387061-PC270002.JPG)
Briseis, tried to get an Egyptian style eye make-up, not entirely successful... ::)
Trojan Chariot

Casualties, from Redoubt. I'll never make flights on a 28mm scale arrow again!

Menelaus, dragging Paris off the field following their single combat. It SHOULD end here, but... Painted very well by Mr. RedZed (who I'm hoping to con into painting more for this project! :)), basing by yours truly
(http://displacedminiatures.com/images/2.img.13882388211-PC270015.JPG)
The whole year's work, including the beautiful Temple (not my work, of course! ::)) and my crap WIP walls of Troy! What do you think, scale and look?

Excellent work as usual...makes me feel ashamed at my own lack of perseverance.....your blog follow button isn't working at the mo so I will join another time ;)
-
A pleasure to see your project going, Chris! Lovely stuff, very inspirational.
-
Beautiful - miniatures worth going to war for (and launching a thousand ships!).
-
A few by me, and a few by a kind gentleman on this very forum, to continue the juggernaut this project has become!:

My latest figment of my imagination is using these to play a Trojan War era skirmish w/ the Dux Brit Raiders rules, w/ a tweak or 2...
-
Looking great Lead! What a fun project.

-
Very nice and a great project, one I would like to do myself one day. I look forward to the juggernaught rolling on!
-
Great work on them, Chris and Chris ;) Glad to see the project is going on. Keep them coming!
-
Wonderful stuff! Who makes the sacrifice model?
-
Wonderful stuff! Who makes the sacrifice model?
I'd somehow managed to miss this thread, so I was half afraid that would turn out to be Iphigenia.
Lots of nice stuff here, and the project is a testament to perseverance. Could I also ask who makes Briseis?
-
Thanks all!
The sacrifice is a converted Foundry Spartan, and Briseis is a Foundry Aztec from their civilians pack. The sacrifice of Iphigenia is one of my favorite moments in the whole saga, so it would have to be just perfect to satisfy me. Maybe someday...
-
Great work on the conversions and loads of good stuff on your blog
-
This is awesome, I've been looking into gaming the Trojan War in skirmish and have not been able to choose from going with Redoubt and BTD or Foundry.
-

The Foundry are by far the nicest of the lot. The Redoubt are oddly posed and the BTD are sometimes crude. I like them all, but Foundry are :-* :-*.
Need to get going on this again! Did a mod for Lion Rampant that I never even got to playtest, perfect system for Trojan War games!
-
Fantastic work, inspirational :-*
-
Lovely work and from one so old ;)

Just ordered a bunch, had to go with Redoubt as Foundry are out of my price range at the moment, may try to pick up some of their hero packs in the future for commanders.

Newline do some nice inexpensive sculpts too, tho they are a bit smaller than other lines. Just got myself some Sea People chariots from Cutting Edge via Warlord, and they are just excellent. Slim but great realistic proportions.
If you want to swap some Redoubt for some Foundry, I think I still have a few 'spares'. Let me know!
-
The one cupping his balls in the sling is a rather out there pose for a figure. "When I said put a stone in your sling Ajax I didnt mean THOSE stones!"
The first Scot strap!
-
Good to see this project continuing. You probably have more painted Trojans in your skirmish bands than l do in my Impetvs armies.
Must make an effort to get back to those :?
-
Yes nice painting indeed.
The Newline figures I have work okay with Foundry as their Trjan range is a tad smaller than some of their others.
-
Wonderful work. Am greatly enjoying this.
-
Guess I need to get going on this again! No posts for over a year, and now all this!
