Title: Wanted: Savage Orcs (Savage Orcs Found! November 2013)
Post by: Teshub on September 28, 2012, 01:10:04 AM
I'm looking to add some 25/28 mm Savage Orcs to this group.  I want them to be as primitive as possible but I am having a tough time finding suitable minis.  Any recommendations would be appreciated.

If you're up for converting you could take many of the barbarians available (etc from EM4 or Militon) and add pointed ears, perhaps some teeth and paint them green.

I've been looking in vain for a long time.

Cavemen and neanderthals, like the Reaper ones you already use.
Pulp Figures do two or three packs of Cavemen. HLBSC (honorable lead boiler suit company) had a pack of hominids in their Dinosaur range. at the moment they only have a pack of Cro-Magnons.

Ideal would be the original late 1980's Citadel savage orcs, but they cost, if you can find them on Ebay.

Thanks guys,

This would explain why I can't find any  :?

I think I will try to find more archaic human types from suitable looking prehistoric ranges.

A couple of the Bob Olley "gargantua orcs" from Ral Partha would fit, trolls and ogres too.
Magister Millitum do some "trogs" or something too.
Also Perry plastic Ansar with different heads might look good.

Edit: ghouls painted green might work, even kit-bash The Ansar with Mantic Ghouls.
My brother's (immortal) Kushites now from Warlord Games would be good, maybe blend a little sausage of GS along the jaw line or forehead to "debase" them. Copplestone or Murch tribesmen would work similarly.

Edit Edit: Red Box Games "boneback" goblins are worth a look too for their "savage" look. Otherworld Minis probably do something to fit your theme, again although you asked for orcs, their ogres would probably fit your theme.

Did some googlin' on cavemen:
Jeff Valient did cavemen, but I think they're out of production:

Would be nice to find a source of these. I really like them.

Otherworld Miniatures has Cavemen in the coming soon section.

The HLBSC mini's are Homo Erectus. found a pic on TMP:

Google brought me back here, search neanderthal, ape men and cavemen on the search fuction of this site.

Mega Miniatures has some old 25 MM Metal Magic orcs that are okay - only a small few are primitive and tribal looking though.
The best bets are the ones in the orc villager set.

@ Andrew MayThose caveman sculpts are fantastic!!
Is there any way you could do prehistoric orcs??  Seems to be a real scarcity there...

I was just going to mention the Otherworld Cavemen. I was surprised at your first post, Andrew, when you hadn't mentioned them. Those are some nice neanderthals. Never thought I'd say that. Only cavemen I've ever considered getting.

Games Workshop made a line of savage orks.  Don't know if you wanted to go full blown toon with your project.  I'd offer mine up for trade, but I cannot find them at the moment.

If someone pays for me to do them then, cool, no problem! ;)
Saying that, there's no telling what I'll do in the future so time will tell. 8)

After much determined searching I decided to go with the Baueda Trog sculpts for my savage orcs. So I purchased about 20 of them from a fellow LAF'er some time ago and  here are the results.

I only wish I could have had them ready for our big Fantasy Warriors battle last week (http://swordandsorceryrpg.com/the-campaign/lnh_invasion/)  >:D

Nice one!

In the meantime, I've decided for me to try Foundry Azande as Savage Orcs (-Wendol/Neanderthal/Picts).
They only need a bit of putty to make a heavy brow and possibly -jaw. A simple conversion I might just have enough patience for.

It looks like you nailed it. The Green Guys look primitive & COOL to boot...GREAT brushwork. The Big Guy out front & Mama Troll  up on the hill are favorites with moi. VERY WELL DONE!

I would have recommended Alkemy Aurlochs, and at this price, how could you go wrong?:
