Title: Beefcakes Fantasy May 2022
Post by: beefcake on October 21, 2012, 09:04:18 AM
I thought I'd start up a thread of my dungeon Beasties. If anyone has any ideas on where to buy other cool monsters I'd welcome the advice. Thanks.

Anyway over the past 2 days I painted these Heresy Monsters. The troll was a repaint as the first time I painted it was about 3 years ago and my skill has improved some since then (still not great though) The cyclops I received yesterday and finished yesterday.

Thanks for looking. I'll be digging out some of my other monsters over the next few weeks probably and taking some more photos of them to post up. I'll try to keep it monster-related but the odd hero my join in just to keep them in line. I'm such a geek... ::)

Don't sell yourself short; both of the Big Guys painted up TERRIFIC. I really like the skin tones & the Toll's shiny purple tongue. Cool bases also. VERY WELL DONE!

Wow, that troll looks awesome. Just like he walks through a rather dimly lit tunnel. Makes it look really mean.

Cool work!

It's been a while since I started this thread, and just as long since I've posted anything! :)
Heres a Heresy Spider, I'm in the process of painting a converted rider for it out of one of the heresy Goblin Bosses. Here's just the spider though.
I don't have anything big enough to base it on yet!
An underside view to show the cling film i changed into saliva-stuff
Ignore that huge line that I didn't fill. The top fitted together nearly perfectly and I didnt fill the top at all.

I forgot to add (which I should have donw ages ago.)

Thanks for the comments :)

Having just finished my Shelob from GW I do appreciate paintings of giant spiders. That's a huge critter and it looks suitably "gross". The pink color is an interesting choice. Would you care to elaborate a little upon that? Just curious.

As to a base: do you want to use the spider as a playing piece? Then I would probably suggest plasticard as a base. For a showpiece of course you can really go to town.

That Troll is just awesome. Very good paintjob. As for the spider..well...for someone with an enduring case of arachnaphobia i just went past for quickly. Sorry :'(

Sorry  :D
I went for the pink, to make it more like its been stuck down a deep dark cave for a long time, like an albino spider. No idea what sort of basing I'm planning on for it. A cd is recommend on the website and I'd believe it.

Nice spider, very crab like!pink works better than I would have imagined!

Your first post mentions other sources of dungeon dwellers......try otherworld, especially if early d and d is your thing

I see. Makes sense to me.
Yeah, a CD as a base is pretty cool. I wasn't sure if it would be big enough. If it fits, why not? I like CDs as bases.

It turned out more pink than I wanted. I wanted it to look white with a pink shade. I'm happy with the final result.
I always drool over the otherworld stuff. The Liche with the staff is on my wishlist, I'm also trying to sculpt my own otyugh. So far I only have a couple of rows of teeth on a body. I think I'll take a peek at Otherworld now in fact.

I love the troll. He's such a nice sculpt that you've handled spectacularly.
I like the spider too. I can't really get a good look at it for fear my wife will walk past and jump through the roof. She's a bit terrified of the things. I have to keep the few spider minis I have hidden. I even have instructions to my friends about disposal of them should I die.

Sme more heresy minis. I swear I have some other companies miniatures as well. I just don't get around to painting them.
These ones are some grubs

They painted up really quick. Just a few flesh tones mixed around, some other colours on virus areas then dipping and some tcr on the mouths.

Here are some old skool minis. Grenadier demon, I think it's meant to be demogorgon, thats the tall one, but I could be wrong there. Also a rust monster, thats the short one, its a pity that its front feelers make it look like it has a moustache like something out of asterix. I've only ever seen a plastic one my brother had when we were little and then we thought it was some sort of insect toy, only now do I realise what it is. The paint job was a bit of an experiment on this guy as I tried to give it a base coat and then liberally coated it in a rust effect powder hoping to rub the majority of it off. I had to paint over the top of that so its not great. The other monster is the one that I created myself that I showed in the workbench area. I thought I'd put a few adventurers in for scale purposes as well. two monsters were ones I just had at the top of my lead pile I wasn't too fussed if I did a bad job on them. I quite like the job I did on demogorgon. I based them all on some resin bases I created myself.
The adventurers are from hasslefree and heresy.
Anyway here are some pics.

Hi beefcake, great thread, I have been wanting to do something similar for some time now. You have great painting skills, most of these monsters (grubs, spider, troll) are truly disgusting. Out of all of the minis, I have to say that I like the Grenadier demon and the rust monster best (great brushwork on the demon's heads).

Keep up the great paint jobs,
 Damien

Thanks! I'll probably update soon with a group shot of all I have done. At the moment I am painting up a harlequin ogre. Not very dungeonish but a cool mini nonetheless. I guess it looks more like an adventurer so ill put it into that category when I post it!

Never seen a harlequin ogre, post up a WIP, I'd like to see what he looks like.

Poor lighting in my kitchen, I may post a group shot tomorrow so you will be able to see this one better. I really botched the skin on this guy but managed to reclaim it somewhat. I made him quite bloody and made the sewer grating and gutter thick with blood this time rather than green water.
I'd really like to be able to paint nmm but the few goes I've had turned out rather bad so I just went for the metallic colours.

I think the Orc guy looks cool. His armor has that nice grimy style and he is overall a pretty dirty fella, as befits a proper Orc ;)

The two human warriors above also look great.

Thanks all. I've been really getting into these old minis I have. Here's the next.
I don't know what it is but if I were to make a background for it I would probably make it as an evil sorcerer/demon that is trapped in a staff and has taken control of some unsuspecting dungeon monster. Based on a 30mm base wi an occult type sign on it. I considered basing it on a fire ring base that I have.

Keep it up

Thanks for the kind words.

I use laser cut mdf (you could just use a regular base though) and sculpt the top in greenstuff. I give its sand after its dried to get it more level looking.

My next purchase I think is going to be from otherworld. I really want that vrock and the liche with the staff. I'll bump the order up with some of those armoured skeletons as well. That will be a while away though.

I rebased the last mini (demon lord apparently) with a fire base I made.
Also in he are some tin minis ten legged doggie things. I'll make them some sort of goblin dog, and a giant scorpion. Oops forgot to put in the spider. I quite like how the demon lords base painted up.

They were practically begging me to paint them red. I couldn't see them as any other colours tbh. They'd make great khorne heralds. Especially if you had earlier versions of the blood letters, which I prefer to the current ones.

Really awesome stuff!

I especially like the cyclop flail brute (excellent for mini-boss, right?), the grubs and those nasty demons (i wonder how much dmg they punch :)).

Could you please, put some pictures of the adventurers you want to throw at these monstrous hordes? I bet they must be true kickassers!

You'd hope so!
A couple of heroes are there. I also have an old grenadier shaman that is on my painting bench at the moment. Other than that I don't really have many. When the reaper kickstarter comes in and the Otherworld indiegogo pledge then I'll have something to paint to battle these guys.
Title: Re: Dungeon Beasties 1feb demons
Post by: beefcake on February 05, 2013, 08:05:21 AM
I saw Reaper were getting rid of their P-65 Heavy metal range  :o as they are putting all the funds of that range into BONES instead. So I went and bought me some goodies. 1 Vrock, I'll probably still get the Otherworld one as well, 1 Ice troll, 1 Cullen and Ash (that's for my quest for glory project that I keep on planning on getting but never do anything with) and I think I bought the Chronopia Dr Totenkranz just because I really have wanted that mini and it was cheaper for me to buy this guy for AU$14 and bunp it up to free shipping instead of not buying it and having to pay AU$18 (so basically he was free and I got $4 off shipping) :)
Can't wait to sink my teeth into them, metaphorically speaking of course as these are actual lead miniatures and that could be kind of dangerous.

Otherworld dungeon adventurers being sent Monday  :D
So I spent my voucher as well and got an ogre chief, ogre Mage, a lich with staff, six armoured skeletons (I guess you could call the his staff as well  ;) ) and a type 1 demon/vrock.
Combined with the reaper stuff and the demon that's sitting on my work bench at the moment I've got loads of work to do.

Your new additions to The Cause are SPLENDID LOOKING Nasties. That BIG Heresy Worm Fellow is one of the pieces I'd be unable to resist if it was more readily available. GREAT WORK!

I also just splurged on some Other World minis. Architects of War put them on sale with free shipping; that, combined with a pathetic lack of will power, ensured a purchase. At any rate their minis look WONDERFUL...enjoy the painting!

It's part of the Diabolical Nature of Cameras that they pick out little flaws in the finest of paint jobs. There are some giant slimy flatworms here, that wrap around their prey and slowly digest them alive.

Right. It's been a while but I've managed to get a bit of paintng done lately, here are some red box goblins. Small little guys on 20mm bases. Not amazing paint jobs on them but they do the trick.
I've made these guys into a song of blades and heroes warband with the giant as a big guy support - just makes them look a bit scarier. The giant is from reaper but also by tre manor.

Thanks scurv, easy to paint. :)
I finished this dragon yesterday (and started it yesterday too) also finished the cockatrice today too. Next up is a heresy blight hero and then probably some otherworld skeletons.

NICE PROGRESS! Giant, Goblins, & Dragon all are LOOKING GOOD! I especially like the Giant; the Dragon brings back memories...I did that Grenadier mini more times than I'd care to think about; AND the Goblins are, as always, COOL. GREAT WORK!

Thanks guys.
Brummie, this is only the second dragon I have owned, the first was when I was eleven and is now long gone, except for one arm. Dragons seem to be the creature most associated with fantasy yet aren't really bought like other fantasy creature. Probably due to their size I guess.
Here's the cockatrice checking out some fine fine glitter.  lol

He looks like he's waiting for something to emerge from behind the Glitter...possibly Elton John or Richard Simmons.

Well better than eating a live lizard. This one isn't so diminutive it's about the same height, maybe a little smaller than your average 28mm miniature.

Here are FA few more additions. 6 otherworld skeletons, I still have the lich to paint and a stone troll by reaper, hellborn troll I think it a called. Also a chaos knight by chaz Elliot in the heartbreaker minis range used as an undead champ of some sort. I've been practicing with rust effects and did the whole chaos guy in rust, then I varnished and turned it patchy white >:( so I gave it a wash of Declan mud which got rid of the white but then made it look less rust like.  ::)
Currently on my painting table are two more heartbreaker minis by chaz, half trolls with kegs, and the lich and a skeletal dragon.
Anyway here is the latest for the dungeon.

And I just finished the skeletal dragon. Picture to cme as it's too late and lighting too poor to photograph it. Tried some source lighting from its rib age and eyes... It kind of came out as a pink skeletal dragon. I shall call it rainbow and I will love it to pieces and cuddle it and have tea parties with it... :?

Skeletal dragon. Source lighting made it look more pink than fiery though  lol oh well have to try to improve. Tips would help if anyone has any. I think I need to add a lighter highlight to the centre of the ribs.

The Dragon looks TERRIFIC...the bone tones are OUTSTANDING! GREAT WORK!

For the glow: I highlight the area I want glowing with a orangish yellow (I use Americana Tangerine); once dry, I do a red wash &, when the wash is dry, re-highlight with the orangish yellow & then straight yellow.

It's been a long time but I'm resurrecting the thread for some recent stuff I've painted.

And some barbarians. 2 heroes and 2 shamans. From forlorn hope. One I had from ages ago when they actually were sold through grenadier, the one with the stone knife and I painted it about a year ago.

Orcs by tre manor.
I decided not to opt for the typical greenskins look and to be honest I think I prefer them without green skin. At least these ones specifically. Still 4 more to paint.

Ask and you shall receive... most of the time.
based on a 25mm round base basically a little taller than a human (depending on your scale) but stooped so a lot more imposing. This particular one is 29mm to the eyes. The boss is based on a 40mm base and larger still. (He's the one with 2 weapons)

Here's a djinn I painted. Took me about 45mins start to finish. Still needs basing. I mixed frostbite blue with elf flesh to get a grey flesh tone which I think works quite well. I didn't use any washes on the blue and a small amount of armour wash on the skin, very watered down.

Finished some Hasslefree Evil Dwarves. Some of the few dwarves I have in my collection, just one of those races that doesn't really hit it with me. The odd one I like for an adventurer or something like that but en masse I'm not really a fan. So these 5 were finished in a day. Really quick just a white undercoat followed by a metallic spray then details picked out and highlights and washes to finish.
Also an undead ogre at the bottom as well.

I had forgotten about that Old Dragon. The smaller Grenadier Dragons had a lot of character to them AND this one is no exception. He certainly pained up in an OUTSTANDING fashion. GREAT WORK!
Dragons of this size seem much more games worthy. This one would be perfect for the Mordheim Monster Hunt scenario or most any Dungeon with lower level characters.

And here is the start of a beastman warband.
This guy is the shaman. This guy needs some matte spray as I dipped him, wanted to do these guys in a hurry. The rest are waiting on the shields to be painted.
His trusty familiar, Gustav is roped onto his back. I have done a few, not many conversions on these guys to give them a bit of difference.

These look fantastic! I really love the older miniatures, especially when they've been painted so well. There's just something about those Grenadier and Ral Partha miniatures.

I know what you mean, although sculpting today is much better I still love the old style of miniatures.
Thanks :)

Always a weak spot for the old Grenadier stuff

UBERCOOL! That is a Dragon I hadn't seen before. The One Eyed Beasty painted up SPLENDIDLY as did his Beast Guy associate. AND the cave Entrance is a WONDERFUL background piece for the Lads. VERY WELL DONE on all counts!

After viewing the maggotman thread about using plastic maggot lures as miniatures I had to buy some for myself from ebay. So here are my Blood Maggots.
(http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr309/kminis/P1240714_zpss9blql2g.jpg~original) (http://s494.photobucket.com/user/kminis/media/P1240714_zpss9blql2g.jpg.html)

They were meant to ship me 56 in total but only sent 20. I asked them about this and they are sending another 40 to me to make it up.
I shaped then put some galvanised wire in them to give them some proper shape rather than just straight maggots. They were quite hard to paint as they are very rubbery. I PVA glued them, then supperglued them, then dipped them, then gave them about 3 coats of gloss varnish mixed with small amounts of paint to give different coloured finshes, green purple and a dark red. Tamiya Clear red for blood (with some blackened bits)

Next are a purple slimes that I sculpted. Well one is still green slime as I haven't painted it yet. It's larger than the other one as well. I tried to paint a slime trail.

:) thanks all. The maggots really do look great in real life.
The wire works really easily. Yips best to shape the wire first rather than shaping it once the maggot is attached.

New additions.
I painted this ogre a while ago but never got around to posting it on here. This was a mini that I sold off regretfully a good few years ago and then bought off ebay not so long ago. It's a citadel Chaos Ogre from the C range I believe. Based on a 25mm base.

The toads are from a KS I backed recently. Great castings. I highly recommend them as they are a breeze to paint up too. Created by Iain Colwell.

And these skull piles are from the same kickstarter. Featured here on LAF a while ago. These were a quick paintjob. I haven't done them justice. I should paint the sockets darker as the bubbles from my wash stopped them being painted.

Resurrecting the old thread.

Over the last few weeks I've painted more miniatures than possibly the last year put together. I put the fact down to having no good games to play on the computer.
Here is what I've done lately.

Asgard Trolls and Trunkhand Tuskoid

Heresy Maggotmen and Terrorgrub. Painted with Maggot White followed by red and green washes (flesh wash on the pooper) purple and purple wash for the chest area(?) and face. Gloss coat to finish off. Pretty happy with the results.
Terror Grub painted much the same way only I put some hot glue on the mouth and painted it with some TCR to give it the bloody look.

You ought to grab some of the Reaper Bones lemures.  Very cheap, and the sculpting style would fit well with the grubs and dretch there.

I have a bunch of stuff on my wishlist from Reaper. I think those Dretch might go on too (need me that free shipping). The Dretch are Paul Muller sculpts just like the Reaper Lemures so they should definitely fit together nicely.

Latest stuff finished:
Frost Giant wizard. This mini is labelled as 1977, older than me! I think it has aged incredibly well (Thanks Quendil for the sale)
I gave this guy a frosty place to stand on. I probably need to add more snow effect to get it looking really snowy though.

Finally, some frogmen from CPmodels that I sculpted for them a finally got around to painting some. They are marketed for 15mm but fit fine with 28mm.

Thanks guys. I missed seeing these replies. Sorry.

Next up is another Giant and a few other odds and ends.

Fire Giant up first

Group shot of the Frost Giant, Fire Giant and Storm Giant (Previously was a Frost Giant but fits being a storm giant better I think)

Next is a Ral Partha Chaos guy, or Plague guy? I don't know, but he's quite cool.
I tried experimenting with weathering his armour with a lot of rust.

And a Zombie Lord. I tried to make his hands black/purple from decompositon. I'm pretty happy with how this guy turned out.

Great work - I love those giants. That frost/storm giant is an especially terrific figure. I think Grenadier really excelled at largish creatures - dragons, giants and other such things.

The Ral Partha giants are great too. You've really brought out the sinister nature of that prowling frost giant.

Here are a bunch of newly painted stuff.
I bought some Olive drab and wanted to give it a go as a skin tone so gave this Nurgle guy a guy and anothr beasty.
Also a repaint of a vampire I've had for a long time.

Well that is a few pages of wasted photos.
Some quick paints here.
The snake is from the Reaper Bones. I always thought I'd sell this off as I didn't like the sculpt online but after seeing it in person it is great. I probably need to sharpen up the eyes. White dot in the middle to highlight and maybe a light wash around the outside of it.

This was a stretch goal in an Ironwind Metals kickstarter. Quickly paints up so I thought I would do this to break some of the monotony of other less fun painting. Nothing amazing here. (Not even wasting a grass tuft on it  :) )

why don't you RPG with all your minis and how do you D&D on a computer?

A few years back, I played a lot of Neverwinter Nights online wih guys from all over. One of the coolest things about this program was that there was a DM function that allowed you to create and control NPCs, monsters and such like, even "entering" them to "speak" with their voices. It was very close to the feel of a tabletop RPG session, in which just about anything could happen, and often did. Very different from your typical online RPG, where you team up with other guys and fight against the computer-generated challenges. Very different from the solo campaigns built into these games (though they were also fun, in their own way). You could even build your own areas with the terrain, traps, encounters and everything just the way you wanted them. Though creating areas was rather labor and time intensive.

Now that I've found a few local folks to game with, I wouldn't go back. But for a few years I was a lone gamer, and NWN went a long ways towards creating the old-school gaming feel.

Well my only D&D on the computer has been Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights series (plus some other titles) not actual pen and paper D&D

I've been rather busy since late December... Busy with painting that is!

I've set myself the goal of finishing 100 minis this year. This also includes half painted minis that I have started but never managed to finish. (which reminds me I have a bunch of old Grenadier kobolds I must finish.)

First up are some CP models fishmen. I finished these just after the new year.

To go with these guys I finally got around to painting the Toad Demon by Reaper. Some sort of god figure for the fishmen.

I've been getting into Warhmmer Quest (original) and the box I bought second hand a few years ago wasn't complete with the minis so I've been filling it out. Here are some spiders. Quick basecoat and dip for these guys.

(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4767/25902739178_3fcbd121b4_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/FsWiVm)2018-01-19_09-01-29 (https://flic.kr/p/FsWiVm) by Kieran Me (https://www.flickr.com/photos/151134189@N02/), on Flickr

and rats, again basecoat and dip. I have some of the Renedra dungeon plastic bases. Easy way to base dungeon critters.

I was experimenting with some different skintones with this troll. I don't know the maker, rather old style to it though.

This next is possible one of my favourite Reaper minis. Shadow Demon. I painted it nightmare black and then gave it a few highlights. I didn't want too many highlights for it though as I wanted it to be very shadowy still. I picked out the eyes in white to make it a bit more sinister. Plus you wouldn't want to see two bright eyes in the middle of the night staring at you. Maybe a darker background would have been better for photographing this one?

And lastly 4 minotaurs. I got these rather cheaply on Ebay I believe. More baddies for filling out my Warhammer Quest dungeon.

It looks like you have been making the most of a the wet weather. A good looking collection.  The spiders are my favourite so far as they actually make me feel a little creeped out when I look at them.

The three zombies at the front and right back look dangerous, but the other one looks 'armless enough.

Nice miniatures, I don't think I have seen any of them before.  The zombies are very effective for such a simple paint scheme, but the ettin has got to be my favourite.

lol, the armless one originally had arms but I lost them somewhere along the way. Have had these guys a good 7-8 years I think. You can get random zombies from Heresy at 1 pound a pop which is pretty good, especially as many of them are Paul Muller sculpts which are top notch in my books.

The adventuring party!

This adventuring party recently escaped the asylum and will some time be making their way down some dungeon (probably their mother inlaw's basement)

First up is Stanley the Necromancer.
Stanley decided that after escaping the asylum necromancy would be a suitable line of work. Unfortunately instead of placing the bones of some poor victim upon the altar for reanimation, he placed his flesh covered spellbook. Now he has a reanimated and joealous spellbook that doesn't allow him to raise any more undead due to his envious nature.

The groups barbarian, George, is next. Unfortunately he enjoyed the feel of the cotton fabric he wore in the asylum so much he continued to wear the same stuff. Here is a picture of him having a rage at the sky because all of his other party members call him "Mage"

Arty the Assassin is the next member. He is convinced that the green dagger he found in a moss ridden cesspit is a weapon of unimaginable power. Wehenver he plunges it into the heart of his victims multiple times with excessive force, they die instantly! He believes he is part of a secret order called the Red Foot Gang. The only evidence they leave behind are red footprints (which seems rather dumb) but really he just spilled some paint on his shoes.

Some more progress on some things.
I had this medusa miniature sitting around for a long time poorly painted and the hands pulled off from when I was young because I thought they would be great for a conversion on something which never would have happened. So I decided to search the bits box for some suitable hands and found some beastman arms. After a small amount of snipping and slicing I made them serviceable for this gorgon. I think it finishes it off nicely :)

A GW wight. I love this range and want to get more from it. Honestly I never thought I would paint this guy as I thought he was the worst of these wights (the only one I have though) but I slapped some paint on as I was wanting to try out some rusting techniques inspired by Zerotwentythrees awesome thread. Wow. Long time since I updated this (although lots more painting has been done. I guess I'll put in a load more pictures but first up is the Iron Golem from Reaper Bones. I painted it rusty because I find The simple silver colour scheme too boring. There are silver highlights on it but it just looks like the terrible lighting.
I never really realised how big this guy was before buying it. Definitely worth it's weight in lead, even though it is plastc, so not much weight at all... :? Great mini!

I love the paint scheme on that golem. May I ask how you did the rust? Might want to emulate... How do you find the Reaper Bones line in general, slightly too soft material or just right?
Title: Re: Beefcakes Fantasy thread - December - Iron Golem
Post by: Daeothar on December 03, 2018, 08:43:30 AM
Loving that golem!

@ KC-Tyr: I have found Reaper Bones to be a very good material for larger, chunky miniatures, such as this golem. But as soon as you get into fiddly, thin parts, the material does not hold up too well. I find it too bendy for that, and it's not great for holding very small detail either.

So my giant worms and golem (not iron ;) ) are perfectly fine, but the skeletons I bought are terrible, as the slim femurs, spears and bows are all bent out of shape and so soft that even a bit of drybrushing will bend them...

As Daeothar says. It is great for the big things. They hold their shape well and don't bend. I wouldn't waste my money on the little ones. Although I do back them on kickstarter regularly and just give the little ones to my little ones for painting.

In regards to the paint scheme I have 3 different AK interactives rust colours. Dark rust, shadow rust and light rust. I let them sit as they are too thin for use straight away I find and then blotch it on when it is a bit thicker. Wash it heavily in armor wash. (probably should use the shadow rust for that actually). highlights in silver.

Could you please do a comparison of those old Copplestone Barbarians against something like a space marine or GW fantasy miniature so we can see sizes?

Thanks for the replies, I got those bears from Quendil it seems. Sorry. They aren't from CP models although they do very similar ones (of which I have one).

And a bit more than a year later.
I think these next things might be the first I've finished in a long time. COVID19, Rangers of Shadow Deep and Contrast paints have forced me to do this. Most painting completed in a long time.
I bought a bunch of contrast paints and after an initial go of not liking them I now love them and will be getting more. It has made my output so much quicker.
First up are the gnolls. I used some rocks, smashed with a hammer inside a pair of old ripped, now rag, shorts. They really helped weight them down and stop them from toppling.

Great stuff - did you paint the rocks on the gnoll bases or just leave them the natural colour (I always end up painting mine as they tend to get splattered with paint from the rest of the mini)?

Also I hope that little halfling didn't hang around after than photo was taken...

I left them natural. I usually paint them but decided not to just to make things quicker. Added after painting so paint splatter not an issue.

Thanks for the comments.

I have the same trio of ogres but have only painted up 2 up to now.  Got them in a Bones kickstarter.  The mold lines were tough to deal with and I never did take care if them.

May I ask what model the Mouthy Halfling is?  The expression  you've put on his face makes me want to hunt one down and hide him somewhere in every picture I take.

Great updates! I'm starting a gnoll project...for essentially the same reasons...and with the same figures...and using contrast paint...  lol
That being said, may I humbly beg to ask your recipe for skin and fur? The main reason I haven't started yet is I'm not sure what colour to paint said skin and fur, so I'd be grateful if you don't mind me nicking your idea  :)

Sorry, I missed the reply. I think the Skin is just darkoath flesh (contrast) over a matt white spray. The fur is just either wildwood (contrast) or snakebite leather (contrast) for the gnolls.

Here is a Skeleton Ogre I designed and 3d printed. Came out better than I thought on an FDM printer. I may try a variant or 2.

Thanks :)
I started off with a human skeleton I created from some images. Then all I had to do was scale it a bit in the x and y axis and do a little sculpting on the skull to make it less human-like. Then it was a matter of posing. I think I might do another one tonight (I should be working on my next kickstarter but sometimes the muse strikes, lol )

Great ogre!  did you do any sanding or use any type of filler primer on it?

The angle of the first picture makes it look like it has giant Yoda ears (actually..the collar bones) which is awesome too haha

No sanding , just paint straight on top after cleaning away the supports. I reposed it a couple of nights ago and have a second print on my paint desk, this time holding a wooden log. I see the Yoda ears, lol

All older grenadier minis I believe (not sure about the bugbears)
Mostly painted withcontrast paints except for some smaller bits and armor.

Great stuff! Yes, those are Grenadier bugbears (there were two sets of three). Nice work on them: they're great figures.

Contrast paints are very handy for dealing with all the subtle detail on Grenadier figures (especially the John Dennett ones). The flow of the contrast paints is much better suited to it than conventional washes, somehow.

It's been well over a year since I've posted here and to be honest I've not really painted much in the past year. Not much that really fits into the fantasy theme anyway (Tau and Necrons don't really count).
Here's one from Northstar, I love the miniature so had to get it, along with the bugbear chieftain (not yet painted)

Colouring is a bit off with it as it's brighter than in real life.
I'll need to dig out the werewolves I painted from my brothers kickstarter too.
