Title: Gilman House - Old model refurbished
Post by: Oldben1 on November 01, 2012, 03:01:36 AM
Most of you have seen this model before.  I wanted to take the plunge and make my small apartment block into the closest Gilman house I could.  I basically added new signs, as well as a small courtyard on the back.  I plan to change all my pulp buildings to reflect the National Grocery, Old Firehouse, and Marsh Refinery.

That looks great, Oldben1!
Love the refurbishment.

That picture of the Fishman strolling past made me laugh as 'Singin in the Rain' popped into my head.

That is too funny.

Fantastic building, and models as well Oldben1.

Really nice. What is the basic building; is it scratchbuilt or a modified shop bought one?

I still have to build some lampposts.  Than it really will look like Singing in the Rain! lol
The building is actually an old pharmacy from Lionelville.

It's a great look. I'd love to see a shot of your full table. Thanks for sharing it.

I have to finish the board first!

I'll look forward to that then. I can't make up my mind how to do my urban board yet. I use modular 300x300 & 300x600 mdf tiles for my table but doing an urban board like that would mean another 30 tiles which I don't have room for. I like the look you have achieved though.

I like the standard 2 by 3 table for space.  It also cuts down on the ammount of terrain I have to make.  I originally used LeMax cobblestone roads but had tons of problems with the paint adhering to the cobblestone and weathering it again and again.  My new road is actually super high grade linolium from my work.  It looks a lot like beat up asphalt and is indestructible.  I like a modular board so I can set up different scenarios.  I just pick up the building and the sidewalk and move it accross the table.

Looks really great. I't hard to make a nice looking modular urban table.
I would like to trouble you for more pictures on how you are doing the sidewalk and roads and such?

I love the look of your building.
A level I would like to try to match,
when I get around to painting.

After much planning I think it would be achievable but would by its nature be grid patterned which isn't so useful for WWII, which I also want it for. I have embossed wallpaper for the road sets and depron for the footways, though perhaps would be better with foam pvc. Apologies for the thread-jack. I like Oldben's take on it.

Wow, thats really awesome ! The version of the Gilman House I like the most was the Dark Corners of Earth, but this is pretty cool.

I would have built a bigger Gilman House but m not much of a scratch builder. I love Grim's version of the Gilman and Gauntmans as well.

Bergh Ill post some photos this weekend for you.

That's a really great conversion; I especially love the little garbage area behind the building...that was a very clever re-use of the sidewalk!
