Title: Rugby or (fantasy) football game recommendations?
Post by: white knight on November 11, 2012, 10:59:35 AM
Are there any 28mm rugby games out there (that are any good)?

Failing that, what (regular or fantasy) football games would you recommend?

Impact Miniatures' Elfball has some elements of the feel of a game of rugby sevens, at least how my group tends to play it. I think it's a far better pickup game than Bloodbowl, but does not have the same extent of team development in terms of tracking scores and injuries that BB does. There's even a small and really friendly UK tournament scene, if that's your thing.

Sounds interesting, I'll check it out. 8)

I'm trying to see if I can't create a game around my Metal Magic Asterix rugby players:

I'd be tempted to play them using the Divine Wind team list. Starting from top left, I'd make them:

defender
defender
hunter
hunter
hunter

and then second row:

striker
striker
midfielder
midfielder
midfielder

You lucky beggar to have them all!

I was actually thinking of using just the actual rugby players as players (bottom row) and perhaps the others as coach and sideline figures.

I have about 20 of the rugbyplayers, which will hopefully be enough to field two teams. ;)

I downloaded the elfball rules and will have a look at them.

Elfball is a fun game and IMPACT MINIATURES is a very friendly company. And the rules used to be download free PDF.

BloodBowl is a classic and an OUSTANDING game. I really reccommend it. These rules too used to be available for free at the specialist section of GW website.

Heresy Miniatures have a game called DEATHBALL. I've never played it, but may be worth checking.

I've never played the new Mantic Games Dreadball, but there are many reviews floating the web. It may just be what you are looking (Hey, fantasy sport, just substitute te sci-fi teams with fantasy models).

A couple of years ago, MILTON BRADLEY released a game called BATTLEBALL. It has very interesting game mechanics and good looking prepainted plastic miniatures. I'm pretty sure you can grab one at a reasonable price off evilbay. Anyhow, MB ussually have most of their games rulebooks for free download.

Those are the ones I remember right now (And I have all of them except Mantic's... yet).

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I thought I had an electronic copy of the bloodbowl rules somewhere, but can't seem to find it.

If you are wanting a Rugby game there is always crash tackle which is quite a nice game in its own right. There is also a range of 30mm rugby players to go with it. :)

Thanks, I will check that out as well.

I don't need the miniatures as I will be using the ones I have shown higher up in this thread. :)

On the GW website - specialist games - Bloodbowl - resources

It seems it's no longer called the living rulebook, but 'competion rules'.

Flying Tackles is my rugby game sold through Ganesha Games. You need a subbeuteo sized pitch for 28mm.
Failing that Crashtackle is excellent. Dreadball will be massive and is real fun, but not rugby.
