The first building is half done. There are some work-in-progress pictures below, and here's an article on my site where I discuss building techniques, methods, etc... More to come as it progresses.

But, the question is, what makes a haunted house? Is it all ambiance? Broken windows, cracked plaster, jack-o-lanterns, body parts? What else is there?
Thanks

I think you've hit the nail on the head :)
Have you ever seen The Woman in Black? Excellent haunted house there...
I would go for all the elements you've mentioned, and also a lot of mess... like someone left in a hurry.
Great work so far :)

Ooh yeah - a small rocking chair that moves by itself (powered by a small electric motor of course) ;)
There was a tutorial on cobwebs knocking round here somewhere.
Bloody footprints might be a nice macabre touch...

That is a FINE start to what should be a very fine piece. Keep up the GOOD WORK!
On the SPOOKY question: the thing that creates a feeling of unease, spookiness, if you will, is a perceptions that things are not as they should be. The inanimate objects moving, bloody whatever, etc. are examples. An asymmetrical appearance works wonders also: placing doors & window in odd positions, making the fireplace twisted; having the floors at differing heights; stuff like that.

Very nice, I will be following this with interest.

Cor they're a bit nice 8)

The buildings both large & small are EXCELLENT...BEAUTIFULLY crafted & painted! You have a keen eye for details; for the viewer that means that each visit will provide a new discovery. VERY WELL DONE!
If the background for the last photo is in your neighborhood, you live in a LOVELY place.
-
Well -done :)
I shall follow your progress with interest.
-
Very nice!
Love all the little details.
:-*
Following with interest?
Oh, yes!
-
That's a bit nice (and the prancing pony is lovely too). Mind if I steal all your ideas? :-*
-
Really nice work there, sir. :-*
The cobweb article was posted on my Ithilien thread by Admiral Benbow. Let's see if I can find the link quickly....

You might add a little more rubble here and there, maybe have some mor broken down parts on or in your houses. Maybe leafless trees/bushes? Dead plants? Rats and crows? Maybe less warm colors.
Mind you, these are just ideas, I think you have done a great job so far. I wish I could build (and paint for that matter) houses like that.

That's some great stuff there.

Very nice!
I like the windows, is the lattice painted on, or scratched in?
-
inspiring work and fabulous details :)

Ahhh, I just love this! :o

Thanks for the positive feedback!
It is indeed lattice applied. The clear stuff is plastic packaging. I used to save plastic packaging, but it's so abundant that I don't really have to.
The lattice is the plastic screen door/window material.

Haha, I love this question! Unfortunately, all of my ideas are already stolen - I like to think 'borrowed' is actually a bit more accurate ;)
I am looking forward to see what you come up with!
Thanks

Excellent suggestions!
the spider web tutorial is great... I'm not sure if it's beyond where I'm willing to go though at this point. I don't even have an airbrush at this point! I'll have to think about it though, the webs are quite nice.
Thanks

Really glad that you are choosing to resurrect this thread.
I shall be watching with interest.

Same - I find your terrain every time I'm searching Google image search for ideas.
-
These two buildings are wonderful, a whole town like this would just be awsome!
-
Okay, I realize that it's been more than a few months since this project was resurrected in the first place, but I'm resurrecting it again!
To be fair, it wasn't resurrected back in January at all, but now I'm back at it!
So far, not too much to report, but I'll post more later when I make more progress.

Okay,
So after a long break on this project, I decided to take a different tack: forced perspective!
Check out the thread - I created a new thread because it wasn't exactly the same project - here in the Medieval section:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=81136.0
I wrote an article on the whole process, check it out here:
A Medieval Town in Forced Perspective (http://www.hourofwolves.org/?view=articles&which=forcedPerspective)
Thanks
