Title: WIP Cretan Archers from Wargames Factory Numidians
Post by: colkillgore on November 21, 2012, 07:13:24 AM
I have been working on making some Cretan Archers from the Wargames factory Numidians. I plan to use them in my Ancient Achaemenid Persian army as mercenaries.

Here is a picture of the unit champion.

You made good use of less than average material. The soft detail of those plastics is just staggering. o_o
However, I'm very interested in your progress, please keep us posted. :)

That's the thing about plastics, their very versatile. The bows on the back look good.

Thanks,

I am hoping that once they are block painted a good ink/future wash will bring out more details.

The bows on his back is from the Persian infantry sprue. The Numidian box only comes with 14 bows and I wanted 20 archers in the unit, so the command and a few rankers have these bow on their back.

An update on the archers. After languishing on the hobby table I finally finished building the unit of Cretan archers from Wargames Factory Numidians.

The command section.

three with bow ready and shield slung.

It is the first unit I have finished building for my Achaemenid Persian army. They are now primed up and ready for painting.

Thanks for handing it off, I still need to get an army ready for a game.

No problem.  The minis look good --- I think we're all aware how soft the original WF Numidians are (one of their very first kits I think).

Still, a good cheap base for all sorts of light infantry for the period.  I have a couple of sprues of them left lying around somewhere.  They may become slaves for a Roman gladiator game or something.

The Wargames Factory minis have a bad name but  I made some really nice Numidians from these.  The helmet heads are great.  The bare heads are best put in the rubbish bin  :) .  Any more photos ?

Yes the detail was softer than I would like but these can be painted up nicely.

I used them for auxiliaries and as crewmen for my Roman elephant.

Nice Jjonas.

Here's one of my favourite figures I've done.   Custom made the cape.
