Beautifully done. Lovely skin tones
-
Great start! I just did some gladiators of my own last night. Must be something in the air!
-

Both look very good with great tones for the skin, cloth and metal! :)

Very nice!
Is that Thrakian a Foundry model?
Any thoughts on an arena yet?

I was also looking at the Steve Barber model but unfortunately the postage is a killer since it is so heavy. As an alternative I can recommend this one that has a hex floor:

wow! :-* that's a really nice alternative to the steve barber one! thanks a lot for this link!
-
It has a bigger play area than the Barber one and the hexpattern is a nice feature ;)
-
Nice project, hope to see some training games soon? 8)
Regarding the amphitheatre, I wouldn't buy one. Most of the model's just pretty useless scenery, which usually doesn't even look the part. Added to that, those raised areas are rather unwieldy during gameplay. Personally I would recommend to aim for abstraction. Or you could build a wooden, i.e. non-permanent arena yourself which seem to have been quite common, especially in the provinces.
Anyway, looking forward to your progress. :)

I tend to agree with what Mad Doc Morris has said.
I went with one of these in the 'Sand Brown'. I'm very pleased with it: http://www.hotzmats.com/mat_gallery_gladiators.html

Disagree! The building of the arena is half the fun, as actual gladiator combat gets boring fast. ::)
Build, build, build, Civilians, crew, guards, etc. That way it will look great as it sits unused on a shelf.
That is my plan, at least... ;)
-
Hi Raif,
you could always build your own arena. Much cheaper an way more fun.

each gladiator-games needs wild beasts like lions and co.

my lion for my gladiotors to fight.
more pics of this sweet cat you find on my blog (http://wuerfelsindgefallen.blogspot.co.at/2012/11/hilfe-ein-lowe-in-der-arena.html). :)

Great painting. I have 3 lions to do and am quite worried about starting them......
Just looked at the Hurbat Games site and they have released a laser cut arena, not sure if it was on last time they were linked to in this thread....

Looks to be around £40 in total which seems a bargain......
-
That is rather nice, especially for that price. A lick of paint and you are ready to go.
-
Nice lion!!
That arena is very nice indeed!!
-
That arena is :-*! I may just sell off the Playmobil for that one! Thanks for the pointer.
45GBP + 20 for shipping, but still nice...
-
I like your painting style, raif, very effective, thumbs up!
-
Great work, especially the lion. He's especially well done. Thanks for the link to the Hurlbat arena. Just what I've been looking for.
-
The figures look great. Looking forward to seeing more painted soon :)
-
Very nice!! The lion is beautifully painted :-* :-*.
-
all three miniatures have their bases finished. i tried to make a fine sand surface and used vallejo grey pumice to achieve this. which paints i used to try to get a good sand-feeling you can see in the blog (http://wuerfelsindgefallen.blogspot.co.at/2013/05/sand-unter-den-fuen-gladiatorenbases.html). i have listed all paints and for what i used it.

To play the new Gladiator-Ruleset Jugula i have to increase my ludus. So the new Gladiator named Draco and is a Crupellarius. This one is not really a nice guy.
It's a Brigade Game Miniature, sculpted from our wellknown Mr. Hicks.
More pics of draco you find on the blog (http://wuerfelsindgefallen.blogspot.co.at/2014/07/mein-ludus-hat-verstarkung-bekommen.html).
In the next week, there will come more support for my small but fine ludus. :-)
-
Very nice work. I ended up being rather "meh" about my Brigade Games figures as a whole, but I don't hate them. You've done the Crupellarius well with that paintjob. So, at the rate of 1 figure per 6-8 months, you'll be ready for Jugula in about 2024? ;) :D
Did you ever get an arena?

:D you could have been right. No. Actually haven't a arena. In the last months and years i concentrate to saga and m&t. But with jugula there is a playsheet beside the rules. If i like the rules i will make or buy a playarea.

Looking forward to see what you think of Jugula. It hasn't grabbed my attention really, but I haven't seen many proper reviews.
