Love the figures, but how do I avoid paying the rapacious British postal service their notorious 'handling charges', etc., which makes it uneconomic to order from the States?

Speak to North Star?

I've always found Lon very helpful in this regard. I've ordered several times from Brigade Games and never once yet got clobbered for import duties and accompanying handling charges. Shipping is also very fast across the pond. Quicker than from some UK companies actually. And obviously, if you order in smaller amounts (20 or 30 quid's worth at a time), you are in very little danger of getting hit with the duties.

That used to be the case, but since they changed the way they do things a couple of years ago, this has not been my experience. I was stung on several smallish orders (in the £20-£30 range), to a degree that it just made ordering miniatures from outside the EU unviable and so I stopped doing it altogether.
But what I don't understand is that I buy things from Amazon US, and Amazon marketplace sellers in the US all the time, and never get hit with these transactions. What secret do they have for avoiding it that figure manufacturers don't have?

Does labelling it as 'gift' avoid the problem?

Eh thank you!

one would have a business sticker on it with the name of the business the other would just look like a package.
So big business gets a pass, and it's only customers of small businesses that have to pay the tax? Wonderful.

Ignatieff,
Should your source in the UK not work out, I believe that the Beast has some connections with a Western arms dealer (who is still waiting to see the "agricultural equipment" lol in action BTW). I am sure that said procurer would be happy to use the same supply route if need be.

I've placed a few orders with Brigade Games, one received yesterday, and not once have I had to pay any duty. Fast delivery as well to the UK.
