Title: the raid on bruegelburg
Post by: **GS** on January 20, 2013, 04:47:09 PM
Hi out there!
my next project is the raid on bruegelburg.
It will be staged in skirmish scale at the Spieletage Bremen, a local board games convention. Traditionally, there is a tabletop gaming room at this con.
This year I will stage some Songs games there just to show people the diversity of our hobby.

As this will be staged with songs of blades and heroes rules, Bruegelburg miniatures will be one of the fractions, dwarves by Ratnik the second, third will be Rackham Orcs. And as I just am starting a new range in my collection:
Beastmen led by a Chaos knight

First picture:
This fell guy happened to be part of the raid on Katzenhain, a town northwest of Bruegelburg. He stole the standard after slaying the town mayor leading the defenders. He did not treat his prize well as anyone can see.

It's in Bremen, isn't it? I'm in Stuttgart, so it would a bit of a long ride  :(

And another one:
This time it is a horse body of wood elf cavalry combined with the torso of a chaos centaur.
hope you like it, too.

Hi again,
thanks for all the kind words!
I don't want tobe boring by posting the 27th picture of relatively equal beastmen. So it's a WIP of snakemen, Ophidian snakes by Rackham. Enjoy:

The story behind these figures is an easy one. I bought them a few years ago, when ebay was something new to me and money wasn't as short as now.
Today the shall be a new songs of blades crew for future games.

Hi folks,
two days of boardgame fair and fierce presentation of tabletop games to interested boardgamers, i.e. newcomers to these games and I still consider the days a full success.

I changed the plan of four full fletched warbands in favor of letting four players do a single HERO and thus encouraging them to play together against the presenting guy.

The story therefor had to be changed too: The heroes are the best men from the Brueghelburg clan in a very distand land called Absurdistan. The clan had been raided  by blue mean Kobolds (Orcs) who took three Brueghelburg virgins with them.
The heroes immediately took to the quest and started to pursue the raiding Kobolds.
When the heroes almost reached the Kobolds near Katzenbach, a fierce one eyed river troll challenged the group for a first an rules explaining combat.

After the troll was dispatched, which took mostly about 10 Minutes including explaining SoBaH mechanics, the party took into the village behind the bridge. The greater Ambush there took between 35 and 50 Minutes to play and half of the initial playtesters wanted to try out the main game.
All of them seemed to like the game.

The pictures I took in no particular order:

Thanks Airborngrove!

In fact I have completed the beastmen of old that I own. Let me show you some very dirty group shots taken on the bare kitchen table:

My personal goal was to have the beastmen look different even if I have many duplicates in the mass. Therefor I used five different skin colors and each guy got himself a personally designed shield, not two looking alike.

I mixed in a few goatmen from crocodile games wargods game. They fit in pretty well.

Now I have enough beastmen to stage the big assault with whatever rules come handy.

Any suggestions?

Greetings GS

Okay, the guy in the first picture of this latest batch with the trident... I know I have seen him before, I know he is from the 80's and as far as I remember from some comic somehow related to the White Dwarf. Can anybody elaborate on that? Because it's driving me nuts to be "almost there" but not quite grasping it....

He is one of the Chaos Brothers from the Kaleb Daark comic strip that was in the 80's Citadel Journals.
They were called Jaek and Helwud.

Is that your game mat? Have any details on how you made it?
Title: Re: the raid on bruegelburg
Post by: **GS** on May 27, 2013, 08:19:54 AM
Yep, that's mine.

I made it myself and that's how it works:

You need:
- A suitable peace of cloth, not too fine (I got mine from a shop selling leftovers)
- A fitting even surface as big as the cloth.
- 1-3 tubes of white acrylic paste to fill joints with (Do't know the exact word). Take the cheap stuff from the DIY shop (max 1$/€ per tube).
- The acrylic paints to color the acrylic paste with (I also take the cheap paint from the DIY shop)
- sand from the next playground (no costs)
- Grass flock in the colors you like (about 300 g of which you will keep about 120 g)
- I prefer one and off rubber gloves for the task.

What you do:
Fix the cloth to an even surface. At least use weights. Better to screw or nail it to a board or frame.
Mix up the acrylic paste with the paints and about 1/3 of this mass in sand. Make it be a smooth muddy substance.
Take on the gloves and smear the mud onto the cloth. Make the mud about 2-3 mm high. If you like a fixed road in your mat, you can model it now.
Onto the still wet mud you apply the grass flock in patches you feel appropriate for your personal mat  :D.
Leave it to dry for at least 8 hours better 12-14. Drying time depends on weather, heating and frame or board you used.

After drying time you carefully take off the excess grass flock with handbrush and shovel.
If you like it do some dry brushing to highlight the sand in the mat.

here you are.

You can fold the mat, roll it and it will not break.

Costs: 13 € for 6' x 4' mat

Title: Redskin gobbos begin to pour into Town
Post by: **GS** on July 06, 2013, 08:10:25 AM
Hi there again,
I am progressing with my GW-Minis of old:

The Redskin Gobbos are a strange offspring if the original greenskin breed. Fed on highly poisonous fungus from the first days of their existence they develop a different skin color and a much more mean demeanor. And there is the issue of the increasing reproduction rate, too! :o

This little town will surely suffer, as many more are to come

Hope you eh... like them?

Cheers

The Red Rogues look TERRIFIC & suitably silly...especially the Fellow on the pogo stick; silly is, of course, part of the Grand Lull-them-into a false sense-of-security Scheme. Short bows seem so natural for Goblins, they fit with the up close & personal from a distance Goblin philosophy. GREAT brushwork & color choices...VERY WELL DONE!

Great stuff...excellent to see so many marauder goblins in one place....particularly in the first batch of gobos.  I'm surprised to say that I like the red skin tone....I'm typically a dyed in the wool green skin type of guy but you've really made the red work for me.   o_o ;)

COOL STUFF! Since the Goblins already have dibs on red skins, I might have gone for a different color for the Kobolds, but they did paint up SPLENDIDLY. The Haggises appeal to my sense of the absurd; they are delightfully vicious little fur balls. VERY WELL DONE all around!

Hi,
my Bruegelburg has changed a little.

I was a little bit disappointed to have a flat table top only if I used the self made gaming mat, so I made up an idea:

I went to a shop selling mattresses and had some foam cut to make slopes.

This is what it looks like:

Hi folks!
It's time for me to show my works of the last three months.
I have been busy working on a snirfneblin army made up from Dixon Dwarves, my best friend bought long before the internet came to be used outside military personnel.

Have a look:

It's not entirely sure, on which side they will start in the everlasting conflict of Brügelburg.

If you think they are short, maybe they are only young dwarves, or underfed orphans.

There has been little trouble in the last months in Bruegelburg, but last week some dwarfish rangers tried to brawl with some halfling rogues.

My little demonic scout painter did a few sketches showing the "battle". The dwarves were beaten bloody.

I never managed to grab any of the halflings due to the greater movement rate and lack of initiative.

Nice game, though.

Thanks Mr Nala!

I like to have at least some miniatures in our living room near the dinner table. My kid's friends like to take a look or more at all the warriors and dragons. And me, I like to boast a little when people ask about the figures. That's what display cases are for: To show off!

Another week, another game of Mortheim.

This time a Vampire led group of undead battled the halflings for a nest full of harpies, and lost.

Cracking stuff. The tower on the pier looks a bit offas it doesn't have the quality as the rest of that city.
Still totally grossartig.  :)

Right,
I took off the roof to place a new wooden platform on top.
The whole tower was built as part of my white city wall and ment to act as part of a trollkin (hordes) setting, so the stones are huge compared to human sized 28mm figures.

Thank you very much!

Hi, we have a double post again.
I managed to return to the man cave and paint some Frostgrave wizards:

I tried to stay close to the artwork presented in the book.

When I did these, I managed to make the same error as with matt spray paint. I ruined four figures with the last brush strokes of a glaze with too much matt medium.

So this guy looks just a little frosted, but I like the figure nevertheless.

I had to repaint this one and two others all over.

Still, those old school wizard figures were a pleasure to paint, even the second time  ::)

I hope you like them!

Cheers

Hi there! Thanks!

Her comes the next experiment:

Mantic Basilean Panther riders with Perry and Gripping Beast parts.
I didn't like the arms, heads and faces of the amazon like riders. So I swapped them for spare Beja heads and arms and weapons from Gripping Beast's arab riders.

Have a look (comments welcome):

I am back to posting some pictures about my works in the last months. One might ask why I didn't post all the time. As it happens chaos invaded my man cave time and again and I have just managed to reinstall my photo corner.

I managed to paint my mierce snakes in the last weeks, so that's what I will start with:

WELCOME BACK! One of the problems with having a real life is that it sometimes interferes with your fantasy existence...or so I have heard. Be that as it may, the Snake Guy looks TERRIFIC & just disturbing enough to make him cool in a sinister sort of way. Your brushwork has bridged the inactivity gap SPLENDIDLY. As a matter of fact these miniatures are somewhat old. They come from the first darklands kickstarter by mierce miniatures. And the hydra is no longer available to the public.
