Title: The Merchant Ship "Prosperity"
Post by: bimbi on January 22, 2013, 11:46:25 PM
hello everyone

Ive decided to start building my own ships to play sea battles in a 25mm scale. The ships you can find online are great but I live in Colombia and having them sent here is a pain and it makes it even more expensive than it already is xD. I havnt been able to find good rules for the games and getting the books is also really hard so im still in the lookout if anyone has any ideas. Sadly I have no pictures of the process only the end product. I didn't make any measurements or planning because i wanted to see the different techniques I could use and how everything worked. Building it was enjoyabe and im almost done with the second ship ill be posting soon. Please all criticism is welcome and appreciated

Great lookin' ship.  I'd love to see some pictures from the build.  If you stay on the boards, I'll have a fun rules set for Pirates in  couple of months - I'll try to get you a copy...even way down there in Colombia! :D

Nice looking ship - nice attention to detail on the rigging.  Just enough to make it look great without interfering!

Very nice looking ship. Think I will have to get working on the one I have on my work bench. I really like the tub like shape. Makes it look like a slow ponderous merchant ship. Just ripe for some pirate to chase down & plunder.

Nice. Lots of character; but I think the bowsprit could be taken for a weapon in itself.

Eric,

Yeah, it's one of three projects all being developed with my Fighting Fives system.  The only one nearing completion is my Old West rules set (Shoot N' Skedaddle).  So, when all complete, I'll move onto the Pirate version.  I'm slow to do it since I'm low on models/terrain at the moment.

I'll post up here sometime when I really get started.

I Like It!

A ship in full sails is always wonderful to see. What material did you make the sails from?

Wingnut.

+1 on the material...as I need to do some larger canvas tent buildings, and I'm curious what cuts well and doesn't fray too badly.

Hello,

I actually tried the same approach as you did wingnut but it was difficult asking for polystirine in colombia even with the proper translation you should have seen the face of the guy in my local material shop. So I ended up doing it with foamy or eva foam don't know how you call it.

Thank you for all the comments I'm almost done with the second shop just missing the rigging. I also got my oldglory cannons recently. I ordered the gun boat because although its a different type of ship compared to the bucaneers it had 22 cannons so it was like a free ship illl be working on that soon

Bimbi,
Are there many gamers in Columbia? (game stores, Clubs, Conventions)

hey wingnut,

im not sure if it was a typo but i meant Colombia south America. If it wasnt a typo then yeah we are like 18 gamers most are just warhammer or warmachine. There are no other ship lovers around so I am the only one building a fleet my friends said they would try the game when the fleet is ready so maybe in a couple of months we'll have our first game. As for gaming clubs there is only one big club which is not much soo we are thinking of opening our own. There is one very big convention each year not only of wargames but everything related to fantasy and gaming.

Sorry Bimbi, that was a typo.
18 is a good amount of gamers for a local club even in the States, at least where I live. keep building your fleet of ships; I'm pretty sure I can help you with the rules in the future.

Does your game convention have a website? I really like seeing pictures from other countries' conventions.

Stay in contact I think you still have my email address.
