Title: Yet more gladiators...
Post by: Kugelfang on January 26, 2013, 01:02:06 PM
I've been seeing a lot of gladiator stuff in the forum lately and it motivated me to bring mine out into the light, so to speak. I really don't recall when I collected and painted these... maybe ten years ago?

They're mostly Foundry and Black Tree Design (though IIRC they were using a different name then). The mounted figure is a Steve Barber figure.

Great looking stuff - how do you feel the BTD guys match up to the Foundry?  Buddy of mine is considering doing a Gladiator game, and I'd like to paint some up- he gave me a pack of foundry guys as a gift, but I'm really digging the BTD lookin' gladiators.  They scale well together?

The BTD and Foundry match fairly well in size--though for skirmish gaming I'm certainly not a stickler for height/weight of the figure. While the BTD are a bit more robust, they suffer (at least mine) from those horrid, thick plastic bases. I suspect the Foundry figures are a bit more historically accurate in armor and accoutrements--but I don't think BTD are so far out of line so that anyone who is not really, really familiar with the period will spot the differences.
