Just started putting together a Weird War German Super heavy Tank.
The chassis is a 1:35 Panther and the turret is of a GW Baneblade. The guns are from my "Bits Box".
As you can see it will be quite a big beasty!!!

Blimey charlie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a magic bits box of creating whatever you want? 8)
-
I would've rather seen one that was styled after the designs for the german landship.
-
Talk about Blitzkrieg!
-
Can't wait to see it painted!!

Only trouble is the time between shots. You fire the guns and then a recovery crew have to go and fetch the turret from that field half a mile behind the tank, and then return and fix it back onto hull. And then you still have to reload it! :)

Thanks for the comments!
twrchtrwyth: The "Secret" to a good bits box is NEVER throw out un-used bits of kits ( although my missus would argue the point about the cluttered spare room!!)
wolfgangbrooks: I would love to build a landship ( possibly a future project) but space tends to dictate what I make, as well as how it would be used on a 6'X4' table!
Plynkes:
Firing both guns would cause LOT of recoil! I was thinking that if one gun fired a split second after the first, the shell would pass through the mangled armor caused by the first shot, destroying the target.
........The you could go and recover the turret.........

Yours too, eh??

Very nice Papp 8) 8)
Paint it! Paint it!
Incidentally, I'd once tackled a similar project - or rather, I still have to, as only the turret is done. It's in 1:35 scale, and I went for something a little smaller - a Pz II!

Pappa what rules do you use for your vehicles?
-
Pappa you gotta put some zimmerite on that bad boy! That would really give a cool effect because I could just envision desperate tank hunters trying to close assault that bad boy with sticky and magnetic mines after their bazookas or at guns bounce off it's armor.

What kind of colour scheme are you contemplating??? Russian front or more tradtional panzer colours?I reckon it would look excellent either way.
-
You could always say they are rigid recoilless guns. I'm sure that bad boy could take it. I believe the Germans were developing a recoilless for the Hetzer in the later days of the war so they could mount a larger gun on it's smaller chassis.

I´d never have thought this combination to work, but it does!
Those guns are excellent. I love those perforated muzzle brakes. Did you sand off the rivets from the BB turret?
Not sure about the Zimmerit thing Brian suggested. While I really love the look of it, I always thought it looks a bit strange on something of "Landkreuzer" scale. I´d prefer a smooth, possibly ceramic look to it. Or a cast-steel surface. I guess it would have a platoon of Panzerkampfanzüge to support it against pesky infantry, anyway.
-
Thanks for the feedback!
I haven't managed to do any more to it today but I'll get stuck in over the weekend.
The Pz II would still look impressive at 1:35 scale compared to 28mm minis. Looks like a good start with the turret!
Rules wise, I'm still waiting for the "Full Version" of the Secrets of the Third Reich in order to field some of the bigger beasties. I am working on stats for the "Rules of Engagement" set of rules at the moment ( including walkers) although the rule-set is more suited for platoon sized engagements.
I had thought about Zimmerit with this one ( it being such an obvious target for infantry). I will build it up some more and see what it's going to look like before I decide.
Colour-wise I will probably go for my "traditional" dark yellow as it fits with the rest of my stuff. Saying that, I got given an airbrush so I may have a go at some camo.
The guns are the only suitably large ones I had at hand ( spares from my "Dust Games" Gunther kit). I was going to try to get hold of a couple of 1:35 scale 88's but I thought that these would look more "Weird War" rather than just up-scaling existing weapons.
Yes Chris, I HAD TO sand off those rivets! They looked way out of place on what is supposed to be a WW2 tank!!!
Thank you all for you interest.
I will post some more WIP pictures as I go.

Good riddance, I say! Now, I´m an infamous rivethead, but those on the Baneblade are simply ridiculously huge.
-
i think zimmeritt would look out of place on this vehicle, i would go with the look of the 'maus' tank, and alot of late war tanks didnt even have zim on them.
-
The Germans did indeed have a landship design (two in fact). The one that most looks like this (that I'm using a GW kit to build as well) is the P1000 Landkreuzer.

That's where I got the idea for the Twin Guns................Unfortunately I haven't got the table space or materials to make one "Exactly" like the P1000 ( She would have been HUGE!!!!!!!!!), mine's about Maus scale.
I would love to see how you are getting on with yours.

Cant agree there, the P1500 defines a new "huge"

Just one P1500 would provide the table, scenario and the German side of a game!

My oh my its a wopper. :o Nice on Pappa :)
-
Ok, I give up! That P1500 is HUGE!
Totally agreee that you could use that beast AS THE TABLE!!!

Yours still cool ;)

As this is a tank related thread, thought you might like to know that the latest edition of Military Modelling has an article on the KV 5 (its a whopper with a 120mm gun in a turret - think super KV2) with 1/35 plans and templates. Those who are whizzes with photocopiers/scanners should not have too much trouble in rescaling them.

Just a couple of quick shots up a "Mock up" build of the work so far.
There is still more detailing to do ( A ladder and some other parts) and the tracks need to be assembled ( individual links.....bummer!!!)

I have am convinced the bitz or grubbins are a commodity.
That adds the idea of value to them.
Of course, the value of having just the right selection for the next conversion or creation is 'price-less'.
Good demonstration of ingenuity, genius from 'cast-off'.
Beautiful machines by the way.
I join the chorus on a peep at the finished beastie.

Thanks for the comments!
It's been on hold for a little while whilst I hit my Russians. I have base coated it with dark yellow and hopefully I'll get chance to paint it soon.
