Title: Hex-textured Plasticard?
Post by: Major_Gilbear on January 31, 2013, 02:14:37 PM
I've been looking everywhere for some hexagon-textured plasticard, and have come up with nothing.

Can any of you good folks help me out with sourcing some please?

I initially only need a couple of A4-sized sheets, with embossed hexagons around 8-12mm wide. However, depending on price and hexagon size options, I might potentially need quite a bit more.

I intend to use the stuff mostly for basing and terrain. I know there are other ways of getting hexagon patterns on bases and such, but I am after the speed and ease of using a textured styrene sheet here!

Any and all help welcomed with thanks.  :D

Unfortunately not in plastic card.  But you could make as many hexes as you want.

He says they are one inch across.
All the plastic hex sheet I found was perforated.  The mold might be a work around.
Snitchy sends.

You saviour!  8) (Seriously though, I cannot understand why nobody has offered this before - it seems obvious to me).

Also, that reminds me that I need to email you about some custom laser-cut acrylic requests...

Have you considered dollhouse flooring sheets molded in hexes, such as this one?

More foam core type product than hard sheet plastic, but I think it is nice stuff

Thanks guys. :)

I ended up getting some from Melody Jane (https://www.melodyjane.com/dolls-house-miniature-bathroom-kitchen-flooring-white-cream-hexagon-tile-sheet) (a doll's house supplier). The embossing is okay (could be a bit crisper though), and the size isn't too bad. You also get a very big sheet for your money.

Plascraft have released a foamed PVC sheet here (http://plastcraftgames.com/en/designed-for-infinity/11-2mm-hexagonal-textured-pvc-sheet.html).

I'm sure that I also saw somewhere that did engraved hard styrene sheet (possibly Antenociti's?), but I've never seen it anywhere else.

For a short time, our local supermarket supplied its pre-packed meat on plastic trays with a reverse embossed hex pattern, about 3/4 of a cm across. I saved a few once I found that out, as at that time, I was looking for much the same as you; a source of a futuristic (Infinity) pattern for use as pavement on a table.

I never nearly got enough of the trays for even a 3x3 table before they changed the trays back to styrofoam, but I've held on to the ones I have, to perhaps use them to make some dental plaster moulds.

The search was halted at some point, but I've bookmarked all of the above suggestions, for when I get on with that project again...
