I'm planning some more artillery units but cant decided which I like better so witch style looks better to you all? The artillery on the rectangle base here: http://wyndehurstproductions.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/russians.html (http://wyndehurstproductions.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/russians.html)
or as I re-based it on a circle base here: http://wyndehurstproductions.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/russian-artillery-re-based.html (http://wyndehurstproductions.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/russian-artillery-re-based.html)

Probably the rectangle. Either way they both look okay, but maybe move the gun back a little to 'balance' it on its base.

I like both Your bases, the rectangular one maybe better
but I never base artillery in order to be able to better fit it into scenery or hook it to a limber

I was going to base mine on circular bases ,but after seeing your pics Im going with rectangular ,both look great I just think the rectangular win . :)

I base all my figures on rectangles, I just like the uniform look.

I do both for my WW2 guns.Small guns and weapons teams on the old flat GW 60mm titan base and medium guns(like yours) on FOW large bases.Large guns (PaK40,88 etc) I don't put on a base cause it would have to be huge and might have trouble fitting in my terrain.
Yours I like on rectangular.
Nice painting BTW.

Triangles!
No, wait, circles! They're the new rectangles. ;)

Actually a good point - the best solution is to look at the footprint of the artillery & crew (if you plan on basing them together) and seeing what takes up the least amount of wasted space.
Just like you wouldn't base a standing 28mm figure on a 25mm x 50mm cavalry base, you could base a 28mm cavalry figure on either a 25mm x 50mm or round 40mm base and either option works by looking balanced.
For the record I base my artillery on custom size rectangular bases and my WWI support weapons on 60mm round bases.
