Does anyone make Native Americans for the Viking era in 28mm?
-
Many F&IW figures would work. Use the ones with bows & war clubs. No guns, steel tomahawks, or rifle stock war clubs.
-
Gripping Beast has Skraelings.
-
Indeed the Gripping Beast Skraeling (http://www.grippingbeast.com/product.php?ItemID=268441518)

Thank you all for the information on Gripping Beast and CP, much appreciated!

The latest issue of Medieval Warfare has a piece on the Vikings in North America that features Skraelings

Can't answer your question. But I think that would be a cool period to play :D
-
don't think too much about naked indian etc.....
We are speaking about far northwest indians (labrador territory et close to these) more looking like inuit / eskimo and tribes from the big north natives.....
-
In that case, how about some of the Foundry Blackfoot indians? They are pretty wrapped up... Copplestone & Sgt Mjrs Minis also do Eskimoes/Innuits which might also be applicable?
-
there is so little known about pre-contact First Nations that You could use almost anything that doesn't look like what is known from historical times, because this would mean cultural stagnation over hundreds of years.
For that matter You could use Maori miniatures or whatever, because we don't know
so if the available skraeling miniatures do suit Your taste, they are as good as anything, because anything is educated speculation at best ;)

If you want the Gripping Beast Skraelings- and they are very nice- buy them now because they won't be available for long anymore.

The box set won't be available anymore, which means no more Battle Boards. The figures will still be available in blisters though.

Actually, there was a bit of a warm up period going on at the time, so during summer months figures with less clothing might actually be very suitable. And the area is normally fairly temperate from what I have heard.
-
Don't forget, the Celts fought naked and that place is COLD! I have the CP and Footsore combination for Skraelings. Wanna buy em'?
-
As an alternative to the GB skraelings and with the added bonus that they are much nicer sculpts, I suggest the Eureka Powhatan range:

Also Pulp Figures has a new Flint & Feather range now. http://pulpfigures.com/huron_iroquois_war/
-
Footsore Miniatures does Skraelings (https://footsoreminiatures.co.uk/collections/28mm-skraelings)and their miniatures look very nice. Although they refer to them as "descendants of the Inuit" I am pretty sure they mean "ascendants" and also quite probably of non-Inuit (ie the Beothuk). In any case, they could easily represent Native North Americans of the time in summer dress.

Yeah...these look brilliant. Hopefully Northstar in the UK will be stocking these.

This is my mix of CP and Footsore. They're about 85% finished at the time of this shot.

Footsore do some nice ones.
-
The figure on the left in the summer picture looks like he has a pair of glasses on. ;D
They look great though - I am looking forward to seeing the main skraeling army finished

Another vote from me for the Flint & Feather range, here's some I painted up:

Bob Murch's sculpts are excellent.

Well done !
They are splendid.
Great work !
-
Agreed! Murch stuff is always best! Your paint is awesome too!

Am I crazy or around 2007-2008 did Foundry for a short time have Skraelings? Or am I totally remembering something else?

I'm thinking I'm remembering Gripping Beasts initial release. I'm getting the two confused. I just have it in my head it was foundry. ;D
-
Perry have some nice ones.
Theres a little more packs of them on their site, but with muskets and such.. But basic conversion skills will solve this issue I think. ;)
-
In fact the guy who sculpted the GB skraeglings is Bill Thornhill, the sculptor of footsore miniatures, so they perfectly match in style.
