Title: Spinespur Kickstarter
Post by: The Breaker on February 26, 2013, 08:17:43 AM
Hey Chaps,

Comfy Chair Games are relaunching their horror survival skirmish game by way of kickstarter.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/97182592/spinespur-the-survival-horror-miniatures-game

It's a cool blend of Gothic Horror / Slasherflick with a great set of rules. It's heaps of fun to play. Give it a look.

I was just about to post this but was unsure wheich section it should go into.

Got most of the miniatures from when it first came out.Great to see this kickstarter to get the rest of the miniatures made and new one's too.

Will be going for the 65$ one to get all the new pieces. Some great free miniatures too if the stretch goals are met.

Spinespur's minis are pretty good. If I was richer, that's another KS I'll follow. Yet I ain't, and as with some other KS I will pretend it doesn't exist :/

Hey Guys,

I was just making my way here to let you guys know about the Kickstarter. I have a lot of free (and very cool) swag when we hit those stretch goals! Best of all, when we get funded, I'm sending out FREE copies of the rulebook in PDF! This way everyone who participates will get the rules to browse and maybe choose to play! At our first goal were giving away a free mini AND the beta rules for Street Chum (The Spinespur experience building game that will re-breathe life back into your Thugs!) I'm rellay excited to for this because #1. It gives a fun new game (compatible with Spinespur) that can give you new uses for models you may not have played with for a little. #2. I get to hear feedback about the rules so we can make them as good as we possibly can!

I really appreciate you guys who are supporting us and we strive to do right by you!

Well this is certainly a Kisckstarter I will be supporting.  (as soon as I have the cash that is.)

I still enjoy playing Spinespur with my friends.

Not knowing much about Spinespur, is it easy to use non-official minis for the game?

Jake

Yep, from what I remember of the rules (I sold mine off a few years back) you can use proxy minis fairly easily.

I enjoyed the minis and the rules, but had to downsize at the time.  I'll have to check this kickstarter out!!

There is some characters, which will be hard to replace, but for thugs, torn (zombies) and such I think it will be easy to use lot of proxies.

The rules are really good and the setting is also great.

The only downside so far has been the lack of models released for the first book, which is being done now with the Kickstarter, and also there has been a great need for a set of cards for characters and weapons, which is also being done now.

So hopefully this will be funded and the game will be more widely played!

They have added an"extras" list to the page allowing pledgers to buy models from the existing range at a discount.

This may well be the first Kickstarter that I back.

edit:  make that the first Kickstarter that I am backing.

Great game and excellent minis. I threw money at it. Comfy makes it a point to have nicely sculpted minis even for the grunts. This is one of the little companies that is well worth you support and attention. It's lots of fun and low model count! Ya, it's easy to proxie but why? The minis are so damn nice. Who else makes a half naked clown with a ball bat and a bottle of jack or a three headed werewolf?
In the immortal words from Yo Gabba Gabba "Try it, you might like"
( that will give you nightmares!)

More extras have been added, you can now pledge for the new minis individually.

Currently less than $500 to go for the free pdf of the street gangs rules expansion and first free figure (big thug with chainsaw?)

I've looked at it and think it looks great, but sadly my wallet hasn't got the power to help out. The sad fact is that I have too many games that are already in a similar vein and it's hard to get people to play those without adding another. I hope you can have good success though, it looks great!

Similar? Really? Such As?

The Spinespur setting is certainly unique, but with all the "boutique" style games it is the setting that defines them. Apart from that they all have very similar attributes.

Narrative style gameplay.
Small collectable themed forces.
Well defined/imaginative setting.
Small playing area.
Short duration games.
Lovely but expensive miniatures  :-[

You could pretty much transpose Okko, Malifaux, Eden, Freebooters Fate, Carnevale, Helldorado, Nemesis etc.
Great games in their own right, but setting apart little to choose between them.

Thats like saying all DVD Movies are similar, because they are shown on a TV, are recorded on discs, and come in little cases . . .

 lol

Cool, the more support the better the chances of getting to the next stretch goals. There have been a few cases of KS ADD over the last week and the project has lost about $1k

More pictures of forthcoming figures now posted on the updates page, both 3d renders and actual green sculpts.

The Kickstarter ADD kills me! It is turning miniature gamers into women shopping for shoes. I have pledged 3 Kickstarters (I see some people who are addicted) I read the rewards, made an informed decision and rode it out to the end. Not very hard. I pledge what I like and with hope it does well, I don't do it for free stuff. It seems lately "Self serving impulses" over rule the desire to stick with something you believe in.

I heard a gamer complaining about the recession we are in and how tough jobs are to come by, while he played Sedition wars. I pointed out to the tit that most of the money made from that game went to the UK (McVey) and to south Asia where the game was produced. His well thought out response.... "So?" I swear sometimes I believe we are moving towards that movie "Idiocracy."

/Rant.......Had to get it off my chest. Thank you. :D

I completely agree. Pledge for what you are after, don't do it just for free goodies. I will support what I believe to be good causes and great products, like Spinespur, not to hope for free miniatures at the streth goals, but because I want this game to be kept alive.

Of course it is always nice to get free stuff, but I see it as a bonus if it happens and if it doesn't happen I will just be happy to get what I pledged for and to see the game evolve and live.

 :)

Agreed Jonas! :)

I know a guy who was complaining about the lack of freebies in a KS. I pointed out that he was getting the models he pledged for a steal already, he replied "but KS is about the free stuff!"

I would like to thank the big companies for fostering this way of thinking and destroying something that had good intentions and merit.

I hope the KS pushes on, freebies or not, simply to help ensure the success. :)

Final few days now for this one.  The renders for another one of the new figures have been posted, a really cool flesh golem type character from the Institution force.

The fan community for the game is really strong and have put up some articles about the game and it's collection of deviant characters:

http://bearersoftheword.blogspot.com/2013/03/spinespur-big-four.html (http://bearersoftheword.blogspot.com/2013/03/spinespur-big-four.html)
http://bearersoftheword.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-little-guys.html (http://bearersoftheword.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-little-guys.html)

and a competition to win some painted miniatures from the game:
http://lxg-blog.blogspot.com/2013/03/spinespur-kickstarter-contest.html (http://lxg-blog.blogspot.com/2013/03/spinespur-kickstarter-contest.html)

If you are interested in modern survival horror skirmish games it would be worth backing this. Even at the lower levels pledgers get a copy of the pdf rules free so can play the game with proxy figures to test out the mechanics and the various forces.

A $38 pledge gets 8 thug figures that will work in any Zombie/Survivalist game and 2 sets of pdf rules, Spinespur itself and a new gang war skirmish set.
