My gallery of french soldiers for weird war two. They are an improbable mix of westwind heads and guns, wargame factory bodies, GW pouches / weapons (with some arms). There's some mage knight, confrontation and warlord bits too...
All the little family

Wonderful! :-* Great to see French forces, and the Weird part makes them even more exciting. Nice builds and paint jobs, trench raiders do look like business!
-
Funky conversions! As has already een said great to see something different fo WWW2 games :)
-
Great ! Vive la France ! :D
Is there a reason for the "chouans" (chuan) symbol ?
-
It's my idea of french "templar style" troup to fight occult german forces of evil... No direct link with chouans, i use it more like as a christian holy sign ("sacré coeur").
And for practical purpose, i had nice red earth decals on my bitz box ;)
-
Great minis, I like the gendarme, i think it's a great idea mix diferents uniforms.
-
Excellent conversions! :o
I look forward to seeing them in action.
Any vehicles in mind for them?
Thanks for posting the pics.

WW2 french army as a lot of funny (some already "weird style" IMO) tanks : b1bis - h39 - somua s35... but i have no idea at the moment of weird component (except the classical electic/tesla/sonic canon).
I think i will add more mech, using AT43 or dust models.
-
I feel inspired, i did wonder what to do with my Wargames factory figures, the heads make a huge difference and seem less german, I may do a small russina force.
-
Bien vu ;) De très jolies pièces, indeed.

Two or three years ago I made a list for a French player for SOTR:1949, we talk to include weird things and our proposals was: Rad-wraits (survivors to a atomic bomb in France), and a great ape from the african jungle (to use like a soviet urzine).
I think you can add specialist zombie hunters troops (like gendarmes), Haitian vodoo, weird troops from indochina...
Don't forget to explore two great ideas to make french more attractives: Foreign Legion (elite mounted troops) and the "La Nueve", spanish republicans figthers enrolled in the french army, also elite.
-
Thanks all !
Rigel, you've a lot of excellent ideas :
- i will use gendarme for anti-zombi troops (i lack of objectivity with gendarmes, i'm one of them ;)). But i'm not satisfied with the model i used for prototype (a warlord plastic german) and i'm looking for another range of plastic models. I must also find a "weird touch" for gendarme, maybe medieval pieces of armor, or "blessed" weapon" (sword, axe ?)... All ideas appreciated !
- for rad-wraith, it's hard to give a "french touch", that can be immediatly recognizable on the model, to undead style troops. And no, i don't want to use ghouls wearing baguette, croissant and beret :P
- I have think of "napoleonic ghost", easy to make with just a paint job, or "napoleonic skeleton" mixing plactic models, but with a big conversion job.
- all colonial troops (tirailleurs senegalais, spahis, tabors...) could be a nice addition with giant ape or djinn for weird touch.
- for the légion étrangère, Dust range has "British Commandos Kill Squad", with legionnaire heads. Just a little conversion (maybe more rustic weapons) and it will be perfect.
Lot of possibility, little time !!! ;)
-
what about a leashed 'Bête du Gévaudan'? Something huge and feasome, chained with an handler. Another possibility could be to have a long range cover action team : paramilitary partisan specialized in deep unedrcover missions of sabotage. Of course, the use of 'troupes coloniales' made of the various colonial ethnies is a must have, from indochinese artificers to fierce desert fighters ... not to mention a large scope of canon fodders for vanguard armies to reconquer radioactive wastelands :/
-
Great work there, loads of fun to look at.
-
Very nicely done :)
-
Well done.
Something 'different' for Weird War II.
tt43.

and a great ape from the african jungle (to use like a soviet urzine).
now ive got murders in the rue morgue by iron maiden going round in my head. lol

Another concept can be an "poilu angel", a fighting angel wearing a fire sword with old WW1 uniform (any idea of model ?). Spirit of revenge coming from past conflict...
(http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/1492/bri0.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/849/bri0.jpg/)
For french readers you can find excellent inspiration in the comic book "la brigade chimérique". It's the story of european superheroes and "super-science" just before WW2...A great reading !

I have always had an idea for a unit of Traceurs in a french army. David Bell, the creator of Parkour was a Frenchman and the original training group were all friends of him that trained together in Lisses.
I thought about a fast, agile, go anywhere sort of group with no armour (slows you down) and all carrying Sub Machine guns and maybe some grenades.
Biased i know, but i do love training my Parkour :)
-
Wow, that warbot is really great! Nice use of the mage knight figure. Makes me want to build a squadron of them...if I ever find any mage knight figures in the uk... :?
-
Ah! Finally some different weird soldiers, not only germans, americans and russians could do weird wars ;) A really nice work :-*
-
These are brilliant! Nice work.
-
Wow! Those are awesome.
Nice work!
-
Love the idea of the "poilu angel". Reaper has a nice set of Angelic Wings that could be used for a conversion. I have toyed around with the idea of using a combination of Pig Iron Kolony Ferals and Artizan Gourmiers to create rad-wraiths. Here are some photos of possible bits.
-
Very nicely done! These are quite imaginative, yet you kept them looking consistent and not ridiculous. And its a subject few folks probably would have thought to work with.
