I was asked by Karl at Crooked Dice to make a wee objective marker for a game of 7th Voyage. He was looking for something to represent the Golden Fleece from Jason and the Argonauts film.
I struggled to find any pictures of it from the film, until Karl sent me something. This is what I came up with before I seen that pic(I thought I'd seen something similar somewhere but I couldn't find the model of it!!)....

This is the pic from the film...

Do what I'm planning on doing is making a few of these. I'll make one on the tree and then make one or two smaller ones that can be moved beside the characters when they collect it in the game.
I've used wee bits of plastic tube to act a former for the tree, then sculpted GS around it for the branches. The armour version is just GS. I've still to sculpt the fleece over one of the lower branches....

Great stuff mate :-*
You really are a whizz with the old gs aren't you 8)
cheers

Looking good... Any chance of casting extras up for the rest of us plebeians?
-
pretty cool. You can make the fleece bigger. There are rather large sheep around. And, Chrysomallos was a son of Poseidon and a half god ram ;)
-
Oh, lovely!

I'm afraid these need to be ready for Salute next month, so there wouldn't be time to cast bud!! I don't think the version with the armour would cast anyway, the horns would make it a difficult job!
Thanks for the nice comments guys!
-
:o 8) :-* Feck!

Marvelous work!
-
Thanks guys!
I've finished the dead tree version now as well...

All three versions are spot on, Andy.

He certainly is :) Awesome work Mr M!

I like the rams face and horns. It really brings the fleece to life, rather than a shaggy rug. Beautifully sculpted.
-
Love it! Just out from the movie! (Which is great fun too!)
-
I wanna have some ! :o :'( :'(
-
Love the armour version in particular.
-
Cheers gents!!
I wanna have some ! :o :'( :'(
Sorry former user, these are just for Crooked Dice, they ain't being cast pal!!
I've finished painting the armour version, I've just got a wee bit of static grass to break up the boring-ness of the base.....

Sweet!

Fecking great job, Andy! :-*
-
Devine painting on that armour :-* :-*
Sounds cheesy but are you going to put a bit of glitter on the fleece or maybe some powder of pearl?
cheers
James
-
Superb!
The glitter idea is a good one.
-
An amazingly beautiful piece - the metal finish is a triumph. :)
I think maybe a little something to differentiate the fleece from the armour a bit.
-
Really beautiful! Richard

Awesome work all round Andy from the sculpting to the painting. ;D :-*

'Said the tough Northerner....'
lol
-
fantastic! and yes glitter would be fabulous!
-
Glitter and sparkle!
-
Agree that you need something to distinguish the fleece from the armour, whether that's glitter or... something else.
-
Cheers Gentlemen! Would glitter be a fine enough material to work on something this small?

Probably not which is why I mention the powder of pearl. Have a pop in Hobby Craft if you have one nearby or a decent art shop and have a browse (tell them Liberace sent you lol ).
cheers
James

Pardon a possibly stupid question of mine:
if glitter and powder of pearl is already discussed, why not use metallic paint from the start?
I once used a thin wash made from silver metallic to let an otherwise matt black armour glitter a bit but stay black
-
I love the metallic non metallic work you did on the armor. Last year I tried to paint some gold armor parts, without obtaining such a result.
-
oh this is very nice!!
-
Fabulous work :-*

Yes, this is what I would do. Thinned metallic paint will give you the shimmer you want.

Just don't tell them you are Jamie Redfern, they may wish to know if it's true that your benefactor regularly asked you to push his stool in.
-
Andy, gilt may work? You certainly have the skills.
-
Well......I have to apologise unreservedly!!! I did think you all had seriously lost the plot with the glitter thing!! I honestly thought I would have to redo the paint work after messing it up with the glitter!...but I have to say you were ALL right! So.....SORRY!
The glitter in Hobbycraft was too big and I couldn't find any powder of pearl! What I did get was a cheap glitter paint! The thing I get with this over using a wash of metallic paint is the small flakes of glitter are an iridescent colour, not just silver, but a range of metallics.

I'm afraid it doesn't show up that well in any pics I take, but it does look good in real life!! Magic special effects straight from a 60's/70's dodgy fantasy film!!

I've also tried to paint the broken shield as a Greek one...

Stone me!
You are not the only one who thought they were being silly.
It certainly does seem to work.
