Title: The Golden Fleece(Finished 29/3)
Post by: Andym on March 24, 2013, 07:11:45 PM: I was asked by Karl at Crooked Dice to make a wee objective marker for a game of 7th Voyage. He was looking for something to represent the Golden Fleece from Jason and the Argonauts film.

I struggled to find any pictures of it from the film, until Karl sent me something. This is what I came up with before I seen that pic(I thought I'd seen something similar somewhere but I couldn't find the model of it!!)....

Do what I'm planning on doing is making a few of these. I'll make one on the tree and then make one or two smaller ones that can be moved beside the characters when they collect it in the game.

I've used wee bits of plastic tube to act a former for the tree, then sculpted GS around it for the branches. The armour version is just GS. I've still to sculpt the fleece over one of the lower branches....

I'm afraid these need to be ready for Salute next month, so there wouldn't be time to cast bud!! I don't think the version with the armour would cast anyway, the horns would make it a difficult job!

I've finished painting the armour version, I've just got a wee bit of static grass to break up the boring-ness of the base.....

Probably not which is why I mention the powder of pearl. Have a pop in Hobby Craft if you have one nearby or a decent art shop and have a browse (tell them Liberace sent you lol ).

Yes, this is what I would do. Thinned metallic paint will give you the shimmer you want.

I honestly thought I would have to redo the paint work after messing it up with the glitter!...but I have to say you were ALL right! So.....SORRY!

The glitter in Hobbycraft was too big and I couldn't find any powder of pearl! What I did get was a cheap glitter paint! The thing I get with this over using a wash of metallic paint is the small flakes of glitter are an iridescent colour, not just silver, but a range of metallics.

I'm afraid it doesn't show up that well in any pics I take, but it does look good in real life!! Magic special effects straight from a 60's/70's dodgy fantasy film!!
