Right, so there's been quite a bit of discussion regarding the size of the Perry Desert Rats box. Undave on the Warlord forum graciously posted the following picture.
Left to right: Foundry, Artizan, BA plastic Brit, Perry 8th, BA metal Para, Plastic Soldier Co. Russian, BA plastic German.
Mikeland posted this picture, of a Perry Desert with a Bolt Action metal Para:

I think this helps dramatically in the size comparison, unless one does want to mix the Desert Rats into, say, the War of the Roses. lol

Definitely not as bad as it looked in Captain Bloods thread, actually doesn't look bad at all! :)
So now I have to buy at least a company of them, well well... thanks for posting this! ;)

Laugh while you can, but I have it on good authority that the Captain's next conversion will be a Lansknecht banner bearer made from a Perry 8th Army sprue, some sticky-back plastic and a margarine tub...
;)
Seriously though, thanks for that, it does help. :)

My 3 box deal shipped today hooray!

Obviously, I wanted to use their Tommy helmets as additional medieval kettle hats, but never mind... ;)
Very useful to see that comparison shot. Everyone's minds can now be set at rest and they can all carry on buying boxes of these splendid figures which I heartily recommend :)

lol Well played ... lol
They do look terrific. Can't wait to get my boxes. Not sure what I am going to do with likely 2 extra boxes, maybe swap them. I basically wanted the Brigadier figure... :-*
Also, the three carrier deal is coming, as are sun helmet Italians along with the great looking M13 tank. Next order ...

Terrific figures but I just can't understand why the Perrys would change their scale.

Richard, forget that slow loading crossbow and arm your Medieval troops with some tommy guns...I also imagine the Boys Anti-tank rifle could do some serious damage to an armoured knight! lol

Don't think they did really. Maybe a touch smaller, as the above photos show. Certainly smaller than the WOTR figures. But unless you and Captain Blood are doing a Kettle-Helmet build... lol
These are going to be just fine. Just fine, I say.

Thanks for the photos.
They look like the figures match up well.
As much as I don't need another period.
They are hard to pass up.

On the subject of Perry 8th Army size, here's an interesting comparison. While assembling some 8th Army last night I came across some of the Valiant WW2 Germans (allegedly 1/72 but much closer to a true 25mm with some outsized equipment.) Have a look at this:

"Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?"

Clearly the German is slightly smaller than the Tommy, but not by a great deal! I did try one of the Valiant German bare heads on a Perry torso, but it did look slightly undersized...
-
by that relation the German could go for Hitlerjugend '45
the most striking detail is the size of the rifles.....

Yup, I think the weapons are fairly close to 1/56th scale. I'll be having a look at my Valiant sprues to see if there's any spare parts that might be useful... the Valiant sprues are generous with spare parts & equipment.

I mostly have Artizan and Crusader figures.
From what I have seen so far, the Perry 8th Army will be very noticably smaller.
The question is "can it be fixed with a washer under the base or is it a real issue?"
Has anybody done a side by side comparison?
Thanks
Mick

the Artizan comparison is up the page. From what I can say, t is not a real issue and well within anthropometric variation, however within the wargaming community, the issue alway lies in the eye of the beholder ;) and no eye drops will ever flush it out ;)

Yep they look way off to me

I might come out of this ok as I have an Afrika Korps army in 25mm from the old Battle Honours range so this could match quite well me thinks.
