Decided for my box challenge I'm going to try a World War 1 theme set in a Tolkien kind of universe
So I've got Hasslefree Kindred for the Hobbit/Halflings,Black Hat Miniatures WW1 Goblins as the enemy and I'm going to try some 1900's kind of Shire terrain, not sure how it will go but really loved the minis and I'm using this challenge as an excuse to paint them up. Going to throw in a tank or two as well but keeping it more skirmish based rather than big armies
-
Looking forward to seeing this develop.
The terrain especially.
:D

Sounds like very cool idea...I'll be keeping an eye in your progress.

I've now got a mental image of a hobbit army at Passchendaele. I feel sad now :(
It's a nice new concept though, really looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Bantam?

The good thing about this being a fantasy WW1 kinda thing is I can pick and choose ideas and pieces from various periods without having to worry about being historically acurate. For the Shire dwellings I have in mind the hobbit holes will have more of a 1930s feel whilst the minis and vehicles will definately be more WW1 (apart from being hobbits and goblins of course). I'm also thinking of adding a human wizard to the hobbit forces (Gandalf kind of thing) and maybe a troll, ogre or even a dragon to the goblin forces

Interesting take on it all!!
-
Neat idea.
I now have visions of the 'scouring of the shire' as the battlefield...
Something dark like:

you need to have a look at Akkie's Salute game from 2012...
-
Hobbits on the Somme? Poor Samwise we hardly knew ye!
-
So I've been playing around with ideas and have decided on a "clean" look for my terrain (Goblins first invasion of the Shire so no prior damage) and I've been sorting bits and pieces to play with for it

Not sure about the walker tank yet (old McDonalds Incredibles toy) and the tank kits will suffer from a ham fisted kit bash.
The undercoated figures are Hasslefree Kindred (Hobbits) and the untouched ones are Black Hat WW1 Goblins
I have finished a Hobbit hole (needs a few more plants and flowers but basically done) that I made as a test piece -

I will do a step by step with the next one but this one was a real trial and error piece. It is hollow so I can store pieces inside the actual hill which I'm sure will come in handy as the box starts to fill up

You have made a great start, mate.
Much further than I have got.
I love that Hobbit Hole.
It is lovely!
:-* :-*
Good idea making it hollow, too.
8)
Such a shame that those b***ard Gobbos are gonna wreck the place.
;)

Cheers Mason. Glad you like
Really looking forward to seeing how your box turns out
Love the 'chess' idea

Love the idea :-*

Great stuff 8)
I like the effect of a period house mixed with the look of a Hobbit hole :)
cheers

Looks nice, but shouldn't the door be round?
Rather than a kit bashed T34, would an Emhar 1/72 A7V be a better choice?
-
This looks interesting - look forward to seeing it unfold.
-
Gorgeous bag endy little home you've built there!
-
Thanks for the nice words guys
I figured that with the passage of time from Lord of the Rings to the early 1900's styles and fashions would have changed so decided on regular doors and windows rather than round (also its easier to do ;))
I'm probably only going to do a Hobbit tank, thinking of using a dragon for the Goblin heavy support, haven't made a final decision on that yet
The Hobbits will have a wizard and the Goblins an ogre as well
-
Well things are progressing slowly,I now have the Hobbit soldiers painted along with a wizard to help them out but I'm afraid I can't post a picture as I am kind of doing a "two birds, one stone" thing and have entered them as my Round 7 team for the LPL ::)
Will make a start on the Goblin forces this weekend (have combined a Westwind British armoured suit mini with a Dystopian Legions Prussian teutonic knight to add a large character to the little fellas team instead of the planned ogre) and hopefully have them ready for my Round 8 entry

Looking forward to seeing these, I keep imagining a hobbit hole pillbox as a piece of scenery...
