I am new here and have been painting for one year. Being a solo gamer can be difficult, so I tend to use humour when I post my figures.
Gandalf the Groovy
An incomplete manuscript written by Tolkien was recently discovered in my attic. Somewhere between Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White, there was Gandalf the Groovy.

Scholars have already dubbed this as Gandalf's "Psychedelic Period", a time marked by the wizard's wearing of colourful attire and his inexplicable use of the phrase "Peace man" whenever he cast a spell.

"We all know the wizard liked his pipe-weed" said Dr. Fatbottom of Oxford University in an exclusive interview. "What we have yet to discover is precisely which weed he was smoking.

Currently a panel of experts have convened at Shenanigans Pub to try to solve the "Riddle of the Weed". The dominant theory is that Gandalf may have stumbled upon a secret stash created by Tobold Hornblower for his own "personal use".
This figure is from Dark Sword Miniatures and was sculpted by Jeff Grace. It's not intended to be Gandalf, I just liked the sculpt and wanted an excuse to use some unusual colours on a wizard.
I hope this post was okay for people. I can see that I still need to learn how to format the size of my pictures and I will endeavor to improve over time.
Thank you
Anne O'Leary.

That´s almost right...
Everybody knows that after Gandalf fell with the balrog on Moria he had to feed on underground mushrooms especifically the Psilocybin mushrooms, also known as psychedelic mushrooms. Those fungi contain psychoactive indole alkaloids. These alkaloids had some effect on Gandalf and that explain the name of that shroom. There are multiple colloquial terms for psilocybin mushrooms, the most common being shrooms and magic mushrooms. After that Gandalf was know as Olórin. It is Quenya, and its meaning is associated with the Quenya word olos or olor, meaning "dream" or "vision / of mind". ;D

Hello!
Totally agree with with the rest (including my husband, Teshub), between the colors and the typing bits you gave me a big smile! When we play it's all about the fun.
Welcome,

That's some funky junk right there, just how I'd paint the G man.

OH WOW...THE COLORS, MAN! GREAT & IMAGINATIVE color choices & brushwork! He's in agreement with Terry Pratchett's theory that Wizards have a limited sense of style & color combined with an attraction for things tacky, tawdry, & tasteless..Old Men like moi. VERY WELL DONE!

Pretty funny ;)
A little-known fact is that Gandalf the Groovy during his period of rampant drug abuse and sexual experimentation also lived in Germany (or Austria?) for some time, thinly disguised a folk singer Peter Steiner. It was during this time that he infamously recorded the song "It's Cool Man":

Thanks so much! My husband and I were just commenting yesterday how much his painting has improved since joining the LAF 2 years ago. The caliber of the artists here and the joy folks have when giving tips or examples of their own work make this forum a genuine community.
I had no blog 20 days ago until fellow LAFfer Little Odo asked where to see all my comics! So it's extra nice to see LAFfers enjoying it.
Can't wait to see more of your work here!
