Title: Eastern european skirmish project (Flashing Steel)(updt 22nd march)

Hi, I'm working on a bunch of minis for a skirmish game(probably flashing steel from ganesha games or my homebrew) in which I'd like pitch polish and lithuanian nobility against cossacks and tartars. Fantastic.  Excellent venue for swashbuckling (just look at the movies based on the Sienkiwicz novels!).  What make are your figures (I assume they are 28mm)?

They are based on 1/72 sculpts by Zvezda from their cossacks and janissaries sets with some heavy green stuff work by me.

Ah.  That gives you scope for the cavalry and Muscovites too (as well as the odd Jannisary, providing support to the Tartars) (and they make 30 Yrs War troops too, providing a basis for the Swedes and for "Germans" in Polish service).  Zvezda has some good sculpts.  (But I do prefer 28mm metal -  I guess I'm showing my age).  I look forward to your Colonel Wolodowski (sic.)

I've chosen 1/72 because of its low cost. As for the progress of my project - I won't be doing regular military types, my procject will we more civilian, bar brawls neighbour wars etc. The Wołodyjowski type mini is on my table still to be painted. Yes it's a chain byrnie. The middle one has a maille collar and the one on the left has a bevor.

Quite appropriate.  Pancerni and others are using chainmail protection well into the early 17th century.

My project is set during the early 1620's, definitely not the XVIIIc, I don't like it either.

Definitely TYw, those last three conversions are based on the Lisowczycy notorious cavalry which took part in this war at the Imperial side.

Allegedly many were such "bad boys" that they were threatened with a death sentence if they set foot back in Poland (not that many of them didn't)!  They made the line between bandit and soldier very thin indeed.

Wonderful - looks like quite a lively establishment.  One of the great things about gaming in that period and locale is the wonderful variety of types that could be met - Poles and Lithuanians, Cossacks, Tatars, German (and Danish and Swedish) mercenaries, the odd Russian or two.

Thanks :), at the back of the corridor there'll be a stable. The inn is based on a description from Zygmunt Gloger's Encyklopedia Staropolska. Also some circassians and scottish mercenaries  :)

Thanks. The magnate has heeled shortboots, in contemporary iconography I've found only yellow ones. Red could be  baczmagis, heel-less boots of turkic orgin.

Obviously you're the expert  :). I'll admit, when I was going through that pdf, I wasn't looking much at the footwear. I just have a vague recollection of reading somewhere online about red/crimson boots being worn as a status symbol by the wealthiest of the szlachta.
