Title: Greetings from olympia, Washington
Post by: northtroll on May 16, 2013, 10:45:04 PM
I've posted a few times on the Strange Aeons and Cthulhu boards, but I thought I'd introduce myself properly. My name is Dwight Grosso. I live in Olympia, Washington, married and have two great kids. I'm employed by an arms manufacturer, and worked as a CNC operator for many years. Currently I'm employed in sales for the same company.

Enough of the boring stuff! I've been a gamer for many years. I started off with D&D, but eventually switched from RPGs to miniature wargames as they are really my first love. It was a Ral partha High Elf with Bow that started me off down the path of lead addiction.... I always dreamed of playing massive wargames with medieval armies, but my wallet can't do that. These days I look to skirmish games for my entertainment.

After moving to Olympia I was fortunate enough to meet like minded folks. We get together irregularly and play lots of different games. Dark ages, Colonial, Steampunk, Pulp, science fiction and fantasy are our main periods we play. Most of us build our own terrain and buildings. Together we have a rather nice and ecclectic collection of forces that make for some entertaining games.

I'll be honest with you fellow gamers in the U.K.. I'm jealous! You folks seem to have an unbelievable thriving war gaming culture that I would love to experience! Thank goodness we live in age of the internet, where I can share this with you all! On the whole I think that most true wargamers are some of the nicest people I have ever dealt with. We have our own quirks and peculiar behaviors, but those of us in the life get it.

Now if I just had the money to support my habit! Or is that hobby? Hmmmm....

Welcome aboard to the wider forum, Dwight!
 :)

I know that you have been around the SA/Cthulhu boards for a while, but you seem to have pretty broad tastes.
Take your time and take it all in.
I am sure you will like what you find.
 :D

Hello there Dwight. Welcome to the forum. Don't know who you are gaming with but many of my freinds in the Olympia area are doing many of the things you are interested in. Also Enfilade is going to be right there in your back yard in about a week. Lots of gaming from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. If I don't see you there, perhaps sometime in the near future.

Welcome Dwight!

And being from Olympia, you of course are going to be at enfilade next weekend and playing the games in front of our booth?  Not sure which ones we're putting on..I'm too busy prepping the displays and painting new models....

Brent and Herby I will be at Enfilade! I usually hang out with John and Mary McEwan at the Reviresco table. So I'm sure you know who I am. As if being 6'6" didn't give it away! Thanks for all the pleasant comments folks. The older I get the more my tastes go sideways then bounce back in. That whole period shift phrenia thing. *sigh* As if I didn't have enough vikings.... I've always wanted to run a Vikings/Cthulhu mash-up on Hel-Thule in the North Atlantic. Maybe Strange Aeons would work well for that!

Unfortunately, I have not seen "Outlander". I am aware of it and would like to see it at some point.
