Title: Game of Thrones factions (updated 21/07/13)
Post by: Silent bob on May 19, 2013, 06:02:31 PM
Hi,

I've finally finished my Brave Companions (well at least the 'rank & file').

I've still got to work on 3 or 4 specials (when I get suitable figures to convert)

They did come out a little ordinary looking (ie not too fantastic) but I like Front Rank figures.

I'm currently working on some Lannisters and the Brotherhood without Banners

They look great, I need to paint faster as you seem to be doing the things I'm planning for my ASOIAF project before I do!

Really cool,

Vargo Hoat turns out really well. Will you do the other important caracters among them like bitter, Zolo, Huppé le ouf or Kiburn?

I found this pic on the net:

or this one:

This last one is a bit fantasy like, but they look cool.
Anyway, it's nice to see them as miniatures.

I am really fond of zebra rider's paintjob.

Hi,

I'm planning to do 3 'personalities' - the Jester, the Maester and the Septon.

I've already done the Maester (but I'm not sure about him yet, he's converted from the FR pack http://www.frontrank.com/big_pictures.asp?prod=385&pn=4) but I have to find some suitable figures that match Front Rank figures for the others.

My local games shop carries the Essex 25mm range, so I may go and scout round there or put out a begging post on LAF for a Foundry monk.

I always imagine the "maester" Kyburn as this guy

Sybou - nice spot - Grima wormtongue - excellent proxy figure. I too have just finished sculpting my own version of Vargo Hoat

Hi,

I have started on my next faction, below is the 'main man'  - Beric (its still being worked on at the moment - I've got to think about his flaming sword yet)

(http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/zz346/SRB29/DSCF0003_zps5411ecdb.jpg) (http://s842.photobucket.com/user/SRB29/media/DSCF0003_zps5411ecdb.jpg.html)

I am also working on his standard (yeah yeah I know...the Brotherhood WITHOUT Banners but I couldn't resist the purple stars and lightening bolts!)

cheers

A suitably tattered/shredded standard would certainly do for his earlier campaigns in the Riverlands. A nice character - well executed. With one or two notable exceptions I have been idea-challenged for suitable character and proxy figures for Westerosi leaders. Its always good to see someone else's take on the G.O.T. world/books.

Being totally unfamiliar with the background story, I'm sure I'm missing much of what make the minis special. However, they all, especially the Zebra Rider, have an abundance of character & are BEAUTIFULLY brought to life through your WONDERFUL painting & modeling. GREAT  WORK!

I really like the definition you've managed on Beric's armor!  o_o And the zebra striping is well done too.

Hi,

I've just finished (well nearly) a couple of figures for Hoats Mummers - the Maester and my 're-imagining' of Shagwell.

I opted to do Shagwell not like a medieval Jester - but more 'Joker' like (from Batman) - this is mainly becausde I couldn't find a suitable Jester (that I could afford or that I liked). I've still got to work on his flail.

(http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/zz346/SRB29/Shagwell_zps3df0ab24.jpg) (http://s842.photobucket.com/user/SRB29/media/Shagwell_zps3df0ab24.jpg.html)

The Maester, Qyburn (even though I did buy a GW Grima) was described as 'having a fatherly face' and I did not feel that the Grima figure did. He was also described as being lean but that was after his diet.

(http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/zz346/SRB29/Maester_zps2b4f83ab.jpg) (http://s842.photobucket.com/user/SRB29/media/Maester_zps2b4f83ab.jpg.html)

The final couple of shots are the start of Dondarrions Brotherhood without Banners (complete with standard bearer!!)

Looking good!

I recognize Lem Lemoncloak, Beric and Edric Dayne. Do any of the other models represent named characters?

Hi,

Apart from the trio you mention (a bit of a 'giveaway' the yellow cloak!), I have not decided on the names of any other figures.

In my second batch, I have figures for Tom O'sevens (apart from I have not got a harp yet), Anguy the archer and I am working a Thoros but struggling at the moment with him.

Cheers

Hi,

I mainly (well exclusively at the moment) use Front Rank figures. You can buy them individually and are 'only' about £1-20 each.

I have the figures for 2 'regular' factions yet to paint:-

A Lannister force comprising of 8 mixed crossbows/spears, 4 Mounted Men At Arms, 8 of Gregor Clegane's followers and Jaime Lannister.

A 'Northern alliance' (for want of a better name) - 6 Stark mounted soldiers + Robb (& direwoof), 6 archers + the Greatjon and finally 6 infantry + Roose Bolton.

These retinues give me chance to do plenty of standards.

Additionally I want to convert figures for The Hound (one of my heroes), Jaqen H'ghar and (probably) The Mountain.

Cheers

Has anyone any ideas if anyone makes a 28mm 'clenched fist' (probably quite large) that I can use as a crest for Gregor Clegane's helmet?

Something similar to this (only perhaps a little larger)

There was a Foundry feudal with a knight carrying a great helm with a hand and there was also one with a fist I think. 2 b honest a gauntleted hand from the sprue of a WOTR set would work just as well I'd have thought

I suppose you should use a fist from a GW plastic sprue, cut it to fit and glue it onto the somehow flattened helmet. How about using an orcs fist. That will certainly be a little larger.

I was thinking along the lines of a gw space marine or chaos warrior fist for when I get round to doing the Mountain - I'm intrigued as to what base miniature you're going to use! I had a look at some 40mm knights, but all the poses I found were a bit stale...

As yet, I haven't got a definate figure but I am hoping to go along to my local figure shop and have a look at their Reaper Miniatures range - the good ol' fashioned way - rooting thru blisters and boxes.

I'm going to take a 'rank and file' figure (Front Rank HYW/WotR) with me to compare with.

For the Mountain, I'm after a bulky figure - hopefully one of the following will be a starting point.

Ooh, that chap on the bottom right looks like a suitable beast! I miss the days of having a FLGS and being able to look at miniatures 'in the flesh' rather than having to order them and hope for the best...

My thoughts exactly! That figure does have the same bulky, powerful look as the Mountain does in the way I imagine him.

Quote
...being able to look at miniatures 'in the flesh' rather than having to order them and hope for the best...
True. Some projects require conversions, and unfortunately with internet stores it isn't possible anymore to compare the miniatures next to each other to see if they scale up all right. I have ordered miniatures in the past with the idea of using bits of them together to make a conversion, but some of those figures have proved completely useless, since they were too small in comparison to the other parts.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing your project develop, Silent Bob!

Whiteknight miniatures does some very nice feudal crests/insignia etc. There's a mailed fist on the end of a lance here:

They have cool dragon's head and boar's head crests too.

All being well in the next couple of days, I should be able to put some (sketchy) photos of my Lannisters (with contingents of The Mountains men, Amory Lorch's troops and a Jaime), the completion of the 'rank & file' for the Brotherhood without Banners and my Sandor Clegane effort, on the thread.

Just got to finish the basing.....

Hi

As 'promised' heres some more photos of my Game of Thrones figures:-

First, the Lannisters with Jaime, Amory Lorch's spearmen (his 4 crossbows are currently being painted) and Gregor Cleganes contingent (the Mountain, himself is being converted at the moment).

Next are a couple shots of Sandor Clegane (my personal hero from the books/series)

I tried to do some shots of the completed Brotherhood without Banners but I could'na get it right....

He's actually converted from a Reaper Miniatures ASHLAN FELLTHRUSH HEROIC PALADIN Dark Heaven Legends 03556

http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/ashlan

I basically just did some 'green stuff' hair on him and shaved some of the detail of his shield etc. I'm using another of their figures for Sandor's big bro (and Robb's direwoof).

I'm just about finished converting my crannogmen, but I'm not sure I want to subject LAF to my painting yet.  lol

Just used Front Rank HYW/WotR figures, with little to no conversions.

Jaime is from the FR WotR Mounted Noblemen pack.

Hi,

Heres the next installment of my GoT collection

First is Gregor Clegane (The Mountain that Rides) and his retinue - the 'rankers' (thank God I'm not Frank Muir!!) are just normal Front Rank figures and the Mountain is converted Reaper Miniatures.

Next are 3 figures for my Kingsguard...I've 'translated' Martins 'white armour' as being Medieval 'white harness'....

The Zebra (or Zorse) rider is a Front Rank War of the Roses hobilar, (http://www.frontrank.com/big_pictures.asp?prod=371&pn=1) with a green stuff goatee.

The helmet/goats head was a plastic GW beastman bit (standard top I think)
