Is this for the Olympus stuff?

YES!!!!  ;D

From the Crocodile Games site:

Things have been a little quiet here on the Croc page for last few months, as we have been working behind-the-scenes on something big: the WarGods Kickstarter!

We are putting the final touches to a Kickstarter project that will launch at the beginning of June and run throughout that month. The goal will be to fund the production and printing of the WarGods of Olympus rulebook, and to get the latest miniatures into production, including new Demigods, Trojans, Amazons -- and possibly much more if the campaign is successful!

And I should add that Fitz showed me their book of concept art at one of the conventions and there are potentially some kickass figures coming down the pipes!  8)

I had the same thought but after some googleling I found some pictures:

weapons of the Trojan wars

ceremonial sword

The sword seems to have the right profile; looks like the sword in the last picture.

I personally think that these look very nice!  A good mix of historic accuracy and heroic size/ Hollywood going on.  I may keep an eye on this line just for things to paint....

Are there additional WIP or concept pictures somewhere?

Cheers,

I've already earmarked a good chunk of this years war chest for this. Croc games doing Amazons sounds brilliant!

It'd be great to resurrect some interest in the game too (I've got 2 1000point painted Aegyptus armies that I've never used :()

Croc has been sending out a single Trojan spearman with some of their orders of late.   I got one in an order last week, it looks nice and was fun to paint.

The Amazons are not a part of the initial options for the Kickstarter. They will be unlocked as one of the first stretch goals, if we can make it to the basic funding target.

The reason for this is that we want to keep the funding goal realistic and achievable, and adding an entire extra faction to start with would raise our costs by thousands of dollars. I'm really hoping our fans will pledge early to help us get there, you can always change your pledge while the program is still underway to add Amazons, etc, once they are unlocked.

I've already sculpted a number of the Amazon models, we'll start showing these off once the program is underway and we to the basic funding goal.

This could finally get me into gaming something from Croc Games, love the Trojans!

I just hope they can keep a reliable release schedule as they have always been very sporadic.

These Trojan minis look fantastic though and I hope they spur people on to invest in this company.

I'm hoping this KickStarter will be a belter! Wargods is a really involving game, the orders and activation system is cracking and the figures are a joy to paint.

I've got a bunch of Olympus stuff in the shed that's probably due a dusk off.

The Croc's been a bit quiet of late.  Hopefully this will generate plenty of interest.

If the sculpts shown are an indicator of things to come, we're in for a treat :D

Cheers

Letting this one pass. Shipping is rather hefty and so is the price per demigod IMHO. The miniatures must be cast in some precious metal like silver or gold for that amount of money :o

It's funded hurra!!

The prices per mini are quite acceptable I think when taking the usually very good sculpting (matter of taste I know) and the high quality of casting in consideration.
Other high quality minis like Freebooter, Avatars of War or Godslayer have similar or even slightly prices.

I pledged for an army and I'm now waiting to see the stretch goals  :D

Hey guys

The Croc has come up with a means of getting the shipping costs for UK backers down by quite a bit (basically, by shipping the items to a UK partner and then handling the shipping to each backer from there.)

Full info here:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1820979427/wargods-of-olympus-mythology-miniature-battle-game/posts/498357

Basically, we were able to cut most of the UK shipping levels nearly in half.  Hope this helps!

They are a faction, so probably safe to assume the same options as the others. Not, it seems, just Horse Archer types, though i wonder if they will get them? I don't think they've had any cavalry before - in the entire Croc range!?
Title: Re: Crocodile Games Kickstarter ...Now with Amazons!!!
Post by: angstpuppet on June 04, 2013, 01:52:59 AM
They have not had cavalry yet, aside from the odd Heru Harbinger model from Aegyptus. They do have fluff that mentions Amazon cav though.  I would not expect them soon if at all from this kickstarter but we may see them down the road.  I am really hoping we get to see plenty of these stretch goals, particularly the Oracle of Delphi.   I am not as stoked on the Athenians and Corinthians, but that will provide more fodder to smash into.  The two factions I wanted are unlocked, Trojans and Amazons, so I am elated.  It is good to see Croc roaring back in such a big way.

How big are they supposed to be? The only WarGods-related product I've ever seen in my city was the Aegyptus rulebook a decade ago.

Do people think that the Amazons will be the same size as the Basti and other female figs from Crocodile? Or larger, because they're Amazons.
Title: Re: Crocodile Games Kickstarter ...Now with Amazons!!!
Post by: Sir Barnaby Hammond-Rye on June 04, 2013, 02:10:08 PM
I have many of the Aegyptus figures and also Myceneans and I couldn't tell you how the females size versus the males. I never noticed. They all look like they "fit" to me, being all the same style of sculpting. Based upon the bases these figures look to be scaled the same as the males, so I guess they are "amazons", as you say.

I really like some of the Demigods and the Trojans, but there is one thing I don't understand. Why should I take part in this Kickstarter?
- The miniatures are not cheaper then their normal retail price. The Demigods even look more expensive.
- I won't get the miniatures earlier.
- The freebies are, at this point, not so impressive, a titan hunter I don't like and a pdf of the rules next year.

So if I take part in the Kickstarter I'm just going to lend them money for free and I take the risk, or have I missed anything important in this Kickstarter? If they had lend money from the bank they would have had to pay the bank some interest, so why not give us a discount or more freebies as interest? And why shouldn't I just wait until September and buy them then?

But it is still lovely miniatures.

Hey Björn, this is Chris FitzPatrick from Croc Games, I'm the guy in the video kickstarter video. :)

I'm glad you like the miniatures, we've got more coming over the next few weeks as the program goes on.  Thanks for your comments as well, I'm happy to try and help clear things up a bit.

You can get the miniatures early, Trojans and Demigods in September, Amazons in October - none of these will be released to retail sales until next year when the book comes out.  You'll also get a PDF 'quick start' version of the rules, with all the stats for playing the Demigods, Trojans, and Amazons in September too, with a complete PDF when the book is released.

We're doing a kickstarter to raise the funds to print the game and put all these miniatures into production.  At this point, we've raised just enough to do that.  Now, as the program progresses, we'll be adding new freebies and perks as we make it to each new goal to make the whole package better for everyone.

We've also just revealed another one of our stretch goals that is just around the bend -- The Oracle of Delphi.  I hope you like her, she's just a sample of what's coming, and I'm really looking forward to sculpting her!

Hi Björn, as an early backer just yesterday I wrote a mail to Fitz with a quite similar intention  ;-)

Especially about the part on prices and freebies and how this might look not very encouraging to a maybe backer.

As the kickstarter funding is rising and rising I hope that there will be enough special rewards for the backers to justify the loan for free ;-)

Which means this big lad will be included in as a free stretch goal.

Titan Hunters are pretty cool in the game, a tough individual to claim scenario objectives, wear down Demi Gods and dust up with the various monsters they encounter! Give him a set of wheels and he becomes a one man wrecking crew!  At least until a legendary death claims him...

For example, how many different variants of the Trojan front rank spreamen will be released? How many different middle rank, how many rear rank, etc.

For the Trojans, I have already sculpted 2 variants for each rank (front, middle, and rear), and I'm planning 1 more of each - so there will be 9 total for them.  Also, all the shields are separate and interchangeable.  I've done 6 total shields so far, some a little more 'Hollywood' than others, and a couple are pretty historical for those who like to play safe.  You can pick the shields you want with the unit.  Lots and lots of variety!

And the KS has reached 55k, that puts a good portion of the core factions for the game funded. Spartans, Mycenaeans, and Titans are already available. Trojans, Amazons, and Corinthians are now funded through KS.  Basically the only faction left is the Athenians at $75,000.  Between there and now the next two unlocks are the demigod of Dionysus and the oracle of Delphi.  I am so glad this KS is going well for Croc.  That is not just because I love the game and the sculpts, but also because Fitz and Deb have always been such nice and cool folks to deal with. They really make their customers feel like they matter.   Keep on climbing guys.  Let's try to get to the gates of Troy if not the fall of Troy.

Would a UK backer be able to add something to their pledge for me? I'm not in the market for the figures in this Kickstarter but I would like the Sebeki Hero and Harbinger of Isis to go with my Aegyptus stuff that have been made available as add ons.

From the Kickstarter Comments...

Quote
Here’s a quick list of Demigods & city-state compatibility, as it currently stands.

An Athenian warband may be lead by a Demigod of Apollo, Ares, Athena, Dionysus, Hephaestus, Hades, Hecate, Poseidon, and Zeus.

An Amazon warband may be lead only by a female Demigod of Apollo, Ares, Athena, Artemis, Hades, Hecate, Poseidon, or Zeus. Male Demigods are not permitted.

A Corinthian warband may be lead by a Demigod of Apollo, Ares, Athena, Dionysus, Hephaestus, Hades, Hecate, Poseidon, and Zeus.

A Mycenaean warband may be lead by a male Demigod of Apollo, Ares, Artemis Hades Hephaestus, and Zeus.

A Spartan warband may be lead by a male Demigod of Apollo, Ares, Dionysus, Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus. Female Demigods are not permitted.

A Trojan warband may be lead by a Demigod of Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Dionysus, Hephaestus, Hades, Hecate, and Zeus.

We’re also including a customization section, so you can effectively make up whatever you want (with some restrictions). So, you could build something like a Sparta warband lead by a Demigod of Artemis, but you’d not be able to take all the options that are available. Such a warband they would basically be outcasts, wandering around on the fringe of Spartan society and having adventures, with only the Demigod’s family warriors as her protectors.

--Fitz

This seems to imply that there will be female versions of all the demigods!  :-* :-*

Some tidbits from discussions on the Croc Forum:

Quote
The Mycenaean Peltasts will look a bit like the Trojans, but with a bit of leather armor and a fringed kilt rather than the Trojan zigzag.

Athenian and Corinthian are going to be universal models, but with city-specific shield arms, and a city-specific captain.

Quote
Amazons get cavalry instead of chariots. Only their servants/slaves ride in carts, pulled by oxen - they consider chariots to be the same thing as wagons - it is beneath the dignity of an Amazon warrior to ride in a wagon, and beneath the dignity of a horse to pull one!

The Oracle of Delphi has now been unlocked!

She's a free miniature that will be added added to most of the $160 reward levels (Council of the Gods, Skirmish, Warband, Army).

--Fitz

At last your warband arrives at Delphi, and you ask the Oracle what is needed to defeat your enemies. Her answer is mysterious: "Only with arms of bronze and fiery hearts can you defeat the stallion-breaking sons of Troy. Yet with either victory or defeat, journey home will take you through lands from whence no mortal has ever returned."

Concept art looks fantastic!  Looking forward to seeing the sculpt, the quality so far has been top notch!  Another free mini might just draw in a few of those sat on the fence?

Quite a few of the figures are very lovely, but they're sadly the wrong period for my own use.

I am interested in that Basti gamer though.  lol   Too bad it's an add-on only.

Fair comment, they are not cheap but the game itself really plays brilliantly, so there is plenty of fun to be had.

On that note, the Athenians are on the horizon...

Mine does not either and yet I keep buying them.  I am finding after a few years of these being the primary things I paint, on those rare occasions that I get to paint, that I am getting somewhat better.

And the hits just keep on coming.  The Aegyptus and Olympus rulebooks and the Wendigo Warband book are all free pdfs for most pledge levels,  Automatons are almost funded and there is a chance of seeing Amazon Cav, more Trojans, Helen, and a Hydra.

Have a look at update #18 there you can see 2 painted amazon warriors.

Great scultps, brilliant paint job and if the casting quality matches the myceneans I am just painting (No air bubbles nearly no flash) that is what I call perfect minis.

From the one back rank Amazon I have seen in person, yes they are at that same level.  I have a small Mycenaean warband that I just started painting up a week ago.  The quality is similar if not better.

The next stretch goal unlocks Trojan chariots, War Altar (including the Palladium), and lots of Trojan characters:

The god Apollo is the primary god of the city of Troy.  He has gifted some of his priestesses with the ability to see the future, but there is a price... for her foresight, the priestess has lost the sight of her eyes.  On the battlefield, she can make predictions that often come true.  And she is protected by two temple guards (like the Honor Guards allowed to Demigods).  The other Specialist is the Tragic Hero, a great warrior who is fated to die heroically in battle, and the knowledge of his certain doom instills him with a supernatural bravery.

Down to the last stretch, Sunday is the final day.

Please stick to posting actual content, i.e. figures, artwork etc. and the discussion thereof. This is not the place to repeat marketing babble, business plans and such (I've removed some of that in case you wonder). Anyone really interested in that can easily head over to Kickstarter via the links already posted.

I assumed that, and there's absolutely no issue with people getting excited about new products and sharing their thoughts here. Just wanted to reign things back a bit so that we can concentrate on the actual product. ;)
