Having seen the forthcoming Perry metal Sikh heads for the plastic 8th Army models, I got impatient and knocked out a couple of my own conversions. They're very simple, just two of the LRDG 'cap comforter' bearded heads with the cap trimmed down and replaced by a greenstuff turban sculpted into place with a scalpel. I was surprised how quick the turbans were to model, but I think I'll wait til the metal heads come out before doing a whole platoon.
The paint job is another simple wargames job, about 15-20 mins per figure. I tried using Windsor & Newton Nut Brown ink as a wash this time (instead of Army Painter Quickshade Strong Tone) and quite liked it, though I touched in some extra brown lines to help define the webbing better. One of things I have discovered about the Perry plastics is that the detail is not as deeply-incised as some metal models, so it doesn't always respond so well to a shading wash.
So here we go, a Sikh NCO and rifleman. The NCO is based on a 2p coin (rather than a 1p) to make him look more important!

Here's the back view - you can see some of the extra lining around the webbing clearly.

And here's a trial shot of the duo driving the Italians off a mountain somewhere in Eritrea. This is a piece of test terrain for the Battle of Keren 1941 project that I am working on - quite pleased with the dramatic quality of bayonets going over the skyline...(http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3802/8866482251_af3356b9f8_c.jpg)

The NCO is obviously twice as valuable as the rifleman!

Do officers get 10ps?

Nice work on those turbans.

You should finish the platoon off yourself, they look very effective and would be completely unique.

It's based on the theory that the higher your rank, the harder your model should be to get knocked down by an Italian grenade/ marble rolled down the hillside...
So I guess the Lieutenant should have a 50p or something. ;)

They look great James. Well done.

Any pics of the mortar and Vickers you mentioned?

Still on the sprues! I'll post when I've had a go at them, but the British Grand Prix and spending time with my family seriously dented painting time over the weekend... :)
