the miniatures are very nice, better then i thought they would. Thumbs up for painting, good job on black 8)
-
The minis have good character, I like them. Well done.
Do you have any Americans?
TT.
-
The faces are a bit awkward, but excellent painting saves the day! May I ask what manufacturer provided those?
-
Let me guess... Awkward poses, poorly sculpted faces, paint up great for games...
Westwind?
-
My guess would have been Chiltern, but I´m not sure at all...

Very good guess indeed! They are WestWind. Certainly some of the faces and poses are poor, but there are a couple that are pretty good and one or two that are excellent (the figs on the far left of both pics are quite good)!
Thanks for the positive feedback by the way, it is greatly appreciated :) As far as the forces of the good ol' US of A, none as of yet. I plan to do NVA first, and then some Americans :)

I must have missed this topic first time around, sorry. :(
The Vietnam conflict has been a long term project of mine, although I'm mainly getting the forces that I need together first I have managed to paint one US LRRP (long range recon patrol) member in between other figures.

Hope you like him. :)

:o :o :o Awesome job on the Tiger stripe camouflage. The completely camouflaged skin looks rather unusual, though...
-
Absolutely, this painted Tiger stripes camo pattern is nothing but fantastic!
Impressive!

The tiger stripe camo is the nicest example I've seen of that!
I do like the skin. If you've ever seen the guys with the paint on, they look really weird. Nowadays they do this pattern where they put light green around the eyes and the hollow of the cheeks, and dark anywhere else. It's like the reverse of how shadow falls on the face. At night, it really makes the face disappear, and in daylight, it's creepy as hell.
-
*gasp* This looks so ultra cool (think I also gasped over at SD's Forum a few days back), Is there any chance of a little 'how to' with colors used and a quick summary of the sequence, the colors were added?
I particularly like the painting of the face, time (really this time) to dig out my TAG Marines :-)
Do you have more minis in this kind of camo (aka could you please post more)?
Z.
Ah, and please be so kind and post a back shot of this fella, would ya`?
-
wow very good paint job
-
Thanks for the comments guys. Really glad you like him.
I'd tried the face paint originally by layering the green and black over a normal flesh tone, I don't think it worked as well. As Pete said the camo paint looks really weird on real soldiers.
As requested, a picture of his back;

He's one of a kind at the moment, a bit of an experiment. I've still got the rest of the squad to paint though. I'll try to do some kind of tutorial over the weekend if thats ok Zoogla?
-
Hey Ray :-)
No prob, take your time. But I would really appreciate a tut for this one some time :-)

No problem, I'll try to get it done soon. I managed to spend most of the weekend putting up Crimbo decorations and then the rest of it protecting them from our dog!
-
May I ask, which colours did you use for the VC-faces?
-
@Ray, those are damn nice figs! I couldn't believe the camo pattern when I first saw it, amazing!
@Argonor, the paints I use are rather unorthodox... I use Iron Wind Metals leather as a base and highlight up to GW Elf flesh. This is my standard for caucasions, but I think it works for VC as well because they spent a lot of their time in the jungle and so were somewhat pale looking (I read that in a Dong Thu Huong novel).
By the way, I finished my VC squad. The last few figs were done in more varied colours to reflect the reality of the VC outfit. Here they are up close:

I have some US infantry up next!

Nice - I also find Leather colours good for asian and middle-eastern complexions (including Haradrim  )
-
That is totally cool! For my Arabs and haradrim I mix two parts leather with one part IWM African to bring them down just a notch more :) That is cool though, I figured with a handle like Argonor you may have some leanings to Middle-earth s)

I've been a total fan of Tolkien for the last about 25 years. Think I've read LotR about 6 or 7 times and of course have the Limited Edition Collector's box sets of the Special Extended DVD version(s) of the film(s). And I collect the Citadel LotR minis, and play Battle Companies.
But I do like Conan-style fantasy, too ;-)
It's actually because of LotR-BC, that I haven't finished enough pulp minis to play a game, yet...
About the skin tones, I'm currently experimenting with a basecoat of Bestial Brown and then lightening up with Snakebite Leather. I still have to find the final hightlight colour, but I'm thinking of using a Vallejo khaki...
About the name: It has nothing to do with Middle-Earth, allthough it has a certain tolkienesque flavour to it; I played the rpg In Nomine some 10 years ago and had to come up with a name for a fallen angel - and I used the gas Argon. A few years later, I started arranging Live-roleplaying for kids and youngsters, and I re-used the name Argon, adding the 'fantasy-suffix' "-or" for a very sinister dark mage/necromancer/liche who was about to come back form the dead (the first scenario being about the local Baron having lost his skull - Argonor's, that is).

@ Neloderth: Amazing painting my man. How did you do the beige hats and sling packs? Also wondered where the rounded cavalry bases you used for the prone figures came from?
@ Ray Earle: Amazing as usual work Ray. I seem to remember that pic on the old Fields of Fire gallery.

Thanks Todd. It's a different one though, the figure's from one of the Baker company special forces packs. The one I painted on the FoF forum was TAG IIRC. :)
